REPORT OF SUPERVISOR OF MUSIC.

MR. CARROLL H. DROWN, SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS,

MY DEAR MR. DROWN :-

Considering the fact that the work in music in the public schools of Mendon has been carried on in the same manner as in previous years, I hardly think that a detailed report is neces- sary.

We have added a new phase in the work by way of a Music Memory Contest to be given in the spring. In preparation for this contest the pupils of the sixth, seventh and eighth grades study twenty well known compositions by famous composers. A brief sketch of the lives of the composers are taken. The boys and girls learn to recognize these compositions when they hear them. Then the contest follows. The young people show a keen inter- est in this work.

All the grades are well supplied now with the Progressive Music Readers and I feel that they are making good progress in reading.

The High School Chorus is larger this year than ever be- fore. The purchasing of much needed chorus books has been a great help and they are greatly appreciated by both students and myself.

I wish to thank you and your teachers for their hearty co- operation in music.

Respectfully submitted,

BEULAH C. THOMPSON,

Supervisor of Music.
