thence southwesterly through land now or formerly of said Mary E. Kelly et al. a distance of 167 feet to a point on the southeasterly property line of George W. & Bessie C. Cor- bett, said point being 187.0 feet from the northerly side line of Mass. Avenue along said southeasterly property line, thence northwesterly on property line between land now or formerly of George W. & Bessie C. Corbett and land now or formerly of Mary E. Kelly et al., a distance of 80.0 feet, thence southwesterly on property line between land now or formerly of George W. & Bessie C. Corbett and land now or formerly of Mary E. Article 40. To see if the Town will authorize the sale, conveyance or other disposition of a certain parcel of land, together with the buildings thereon, situated at 18 Medford Street within the Town or take any action relating to said parcel of land or the buildings thereon or the Town's inter- est therein.


Said land is bounded and described substantially as follows :


Southeasterly by Medford Street 118 feet more or less, northeasterly by land now or formerly of John J. Williams

Article 41. To see if the Town will authorize the School Committee to establish and maintain State-aided vocational education in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 74, General Laws and Acts amendatory thereto, or dependent thereon ; or take any action relating thereto.

Article 42. To see if the Town will appoint a commit- tee to recommend a site for a vocational school and to pro- cure plans and specifications for the construction of such school, and also estimates of the cost of such construction, and of the original equipment and furnishings thereof, and of the grading of the grounds of said school, said commit- tee to report to the Town at the next special town meeting, if any, but not later than the Annual Town Meeting of 1943; make an appropriation for the use of said committee ; determine in what manner the money shall be raised; or take any action relating thereto.

Article 43. To see if the Town will appoint a commit- tee to recommend a site or sites for a new school building, within the boundaries of the present Russell School district, said committee to report its recommendations to the Town at the next special town meeting, if any, but not later than the Annual Town Meeting of 1943; make an appropriation for the use of said committee, determine in what manner the money shall be raised; or take any action relating there- to.

Article 44. To see if the Town will appropriate a sum of money to be expended under the direction of the School Committee for the purpose of installing a sound system in the old and new high school buildings; and of completing inside telephone system in the new high school building and altering system in the old high school building, so that both may be connected to one desk type switchboard; determine in what manner the money shall be raised; or take any ac- tion relating thereto.

Article 45. To see if the Town will appropriate the sum of Two Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($2,850) to be expended under the direction of the Park Commis- sioners, for the purpose of grading, loaming, seeding, and the laying of a black top walk and other general improve-' ments of the area known as Waldo Road Playground located in East Arlington; or will take any action relative thereto.

Article 46. To see if the Town will appropriate the sum of $2500. or any other sum to be expended under the direc- tion of the Board of Park Commissioners for the purpose of grading the playground area known as the Waldo Road Property bordering on Teel St., East Arlington, purchased by vote of the Town under Article 39 of the Annual Meeting of 1937, and for the further purpose of loaming and seeding and properly equipping said playground area, determine in what manner the money shall be raised, or take any action relating thereto.

Article 47. To see if the Town will appropriate the sum of One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) to be expended under the direction of the Park Commissioners, for the purpose of grading to adjacent property and draining area known as Florence Ave. Playground located on Florence Ave., Arling- ton Heights; or will take any action relative thereto.

To see if the Town will appropriate the sum of Six Hundred Dollars ($600.00) to be expended under the direction of the Park Commissioners, for the purpose of draining and grading and generally improving the area known as the Thorndike St. Playground, located in East Arlington; or will take any action relative thereto.

Article 49. To see if the Town will appropriate the sum of Four Thousand Four Hundred and Twenty-nine Dollars ($4,429.00) to be expended under the direction of the Park Commissioners, for the purpose of laying black top walks, loaming, seeding and planting and generally improving the Ethel Wellington Playground located on Grove St., Arling- ton; or will take any action relative thereto.

Article 50. To see if the Town will authorize the Board of Selectmen to petition the General Court for amendment of Section 6, of Chapter 43A of the General Laws, entitled "Standard Form of Representative Town Meeting Govern- ment", accepted by the Town at the Annual Meeting of 1935, so as to change the filing day with the town clerk, in the Town of Arlington from "ten" as appearing in the fifth line of said section, in the Tercentenary Edition, to twenty- five, also, to change the word "thirty" in the seventh line of said section to thirty-two, or for any other legislation which will accomplish said purposes.

Article 51. To see if the Town will appropriate the sum of four hundred dollars ($400.00) to be expended under the direction of the Board of Selectmen, for the purpose of pro- viding suitable headquarters for Arlington Post #1775, Vet- erans of Foreign Wars of the United States, in accordance with Chapter 40, Section 9, under the General Laws of Massachusetts, said sum to be raised by general tax.

Selectmen for the purpose of having made, by a properly qualified, recognized organization, an investigation and study for the purpose of classification of positions and the standardization of wages and salaries of all departments of the Town of Arlington; such investigation and study to in- clude recommendations relating thereto; said Selectmen to submit the result of said investigation and study, together with such recommendations deemed advisable, to the Town not later than the Annual meeting of 1943; determine in what manner the money shall be raised; or take any other action relating thereto.

Arlington, Feb. 27, 1942


By virtue of this warrant I have notified and warned the legal voters of the Town of Arlington to meet at the times and places and for the purposes herein specified by causing a printed attested copy of said warrant to be left at every dwelling house in the Town previous to the day of the meeting for the election of officers and by posting an at- tested copy of said warrant at the doors of the Town Hall and in two or more conspicuous places in each of the four- teen precincts of the Town, seven days at least before the day of said meeting. A notice of the times, places, and objects of the meetings was published in the local papers.

In pursuance of the foregoing Warrant the legal voters of the Town of Arlington met in their respective voting places in said Town on Monday the second day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and forty- two at seven o'clock in the forenoon.

in the evening at which time, after due notice, they were declared closed.


The ballots were counted by the election officers and encased in boxes, which were locked and sealed, and the same were delivered by direction of the Town Clerk to the Police Station where they were placed under police guard until after the expiration of the time within which a petition for recount might be filed.


The returns and keys to ballot boxes from each precinct were turned over to the Town Clerk and with the assistance of the Registrars of Voters the returns were canvassed and the result announced.
