Section V.


Four days shall be granted to such employees who have suffered the loss of a member of the immediate family; death of spouse, child, father, mother, brother or sister and father, mother, brother or sister of spouse, and shall be charged to accumulated sick leave.


Section VI.


Notification of absence shall, where conditions warrant, be given to the department head as early as possible on the first day of ab- sence, otherwise as soon as possible thereafter. If such notification is not made, such absence may, at the discretion of the department head, be applied to vacation leave or leave without pay.

Section VII.


For absence on account of sickness, the department head may require evidence in the form of a physician's certificate for the neces- sity for such absence. If such certificate is not filed after request therefor within seven days, such absence may be applied, at the dis- cretion of the department head, to vacation leave or leave without pay.


Section VIII.


Employees whose services are terminated through death, resig- nation, retirement, or dismissal shall not be entitled to compensation in lieu of any sick leave not taken. Employees reinstated may be credited with any accrued sick leave due them at the termination of their previous service.


Section IX.


Every department of the Town shall keep a register showing records of sick leave both accrued and granted for each employee. The information on such register shall be transmitted by the head of the department to the Personnel Board at the end of each month.


Section X.


Accrued sick leave shall be computed for each year of service beginning January 1, 1945. If accrued sick leave cannot be com- puted, due to the lack of records, the employee shall be credited with eight working days for each year of service, not to exceed sixty-four working days.


OVERTIME


Section I.


A. Overtime services rendered by an employee at the request of the department head beyond the established hours of service for his position shall be compensated at one and one-half his regular rate of compensation or double his regular rate of compensation on Sun- day and over eight hours on holidays for such services, provided this work is classified as emergency.


B. This section shall not apply to members of the Fire and Police Departments or to the Library staff and School Department personnel.


C. Section A shall not apply to departments where time off for overtime services has been the established procedure.


LUNCH PERIOD


Section I.


A lunch period of not more than one hour shall be granted to all classified Town employees.


MILITIA, ETC. LEAVE


Section I.


Any permanent classified full-time Town employee shall be en- titled during the time of his service in the organized militia, under sections eleven, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, one hundred and five or one hundred and fifty four, or during his annual tour of duty of

not exceeding two calendar weeks as a member of the organized re- serve of the Army of the United States or of the United States naval reserve forces, to receive pay therefor, without loss of his ordinary remuneration as an employee of the Town and shall also be entitled to the same leaves of absence or vacation with pay given to other like employees.


GENERAL LAWS


Nothing in the above rules and regulations shall be construed to conflict with the General Laws of the Commonwealth of Massachu- setts.

Article 12. To see if the Town will amend the Classification Plan, known as Schedule A, under 1 and Table 2, of Article 7C, of the By-Laws by reallocating the following classification:


Board of Selectmen-Police Department Police Sergeant, Grade 16, reallocated to Grade 18

Article 13. To see if the Town will amend the Classification Plan, known as Schedule A, under Table I and Table II of Article 7C, of the By-laws, by reallocating certain classifications to the salary grades as set forth in the following list:

To see if the Town will vote to amend Table I of Schedule A of the Classification Plan, and Table I of Schedule B of the Pay Plan, as established by Article 7C of the By-laws by increas- ing any or all money figures containd therein; will appropriate a sum or sums of money therefor to be expended by the various departments effected; determine in what manner the money shall be raised or take any action relating thereto.

To see if the Town will authorize the various de- partments of the Town to increase the basic salary or wages of school cafeteria personnel, elected full-time employees and all classified em- ployees now receiving salaries or wages now in excess of maximums as now established by said Classification and Pay Plan; will appro- priate a sum or sums of money therefor to be expended by the vari- ous departments effected; determine in what manner the money shall be raised or take any action relating thereto.

Article 22. To see if the Town will authorize the Town Treas- urer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow money from time to time in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1954, and to issue a note or notes therefor, payable within one year, and to renew any note or notes that may be given for a period of less than one year in accordance with Section 17, Chapter 44, General Laws.


Article 23. To see if the Town will make an appropriation for the Extension of the Sewerage System; determine in what manner the money shall be raised and expended; or take any action relating thereto.

To see if the Town will vote to accept the provision of Chapter 559 of the Acts of 1952 which Act is entitled "An Act Providing for the Construction and Operation by the Metropolitanl District Commission of Refuse Disposal Incinerators in certain cases"; or take any action relating thereto.

To see if the Town will make an appropriation for the relocation, alteration and widening, construction of, specific re- pairs upon and improvement of all or any parts of Massachusetts Avenue or Summer Street, within the town as now existing or here- after relocated, altered or widened, including land damages, if any, under the provisions of law authorizing the assessments of better- ments or otherwise; said appropriation to be used with any sum or sums which may be allotted by the Commonwealth or County of Mid- dlesex, or both, for such purpose or purposes; determine in what manner the money shall be raised and expended; or take any action in any way relative to all or any of the foregoing.


Article 34. 'To see if the Town will make an appropriation or appropriations to pay the claims or charges of Symmes Arlington Hospital including such claims and charges for aid, relief or care furnished prior to January 1, 1953, to persons falling into distress and standing in need of immediate relief; determine in what manner the money shall be raised and expended; or take any action relating thereto.


Article 35. To see if the Town will accept a gift to the Town from Stanley W. Morton of a strip of land 10 feet in width abutting the southeasterly property line of the premises owned by him on Spring Street, extending from Spring Street to the Concord Turnpike, or take any action relating thereto.


Article 36. To see if the Town will accept the laying out of a Town way from Washington Street to Pheasant Avenue, substantially in the location of the private way known as Chatham Street, as made

and filed in the office of the Town Clerk by the Joint Board of Select- men and Board of Public Works, under the provisions of law author- izing the assessment of betterments; establish said way; make an appropriation for said laying out and the construction of said way; determine in what manner the money shall be raised; or take any action relating thereto.
