Article 87. To see if the Town will accept as a by-law the following:
Whenever the Town acquires private property by eminent domain, the owner or owners of such private property shall be notified in writing at least thirty days before actual possession of such property, and that the owner or owners shall be compensated by an amount mutually agreed upon within six months after the original notice of acquisition.

Article 91. To see if the Town will make an appropriation of a sum of money to be expended under the direction of the Board of Selectmen for the purpose of providing suitable headquarters for the Lt. Stanley G. Benner Detachment, Marine Corps League of Arlington, determine in what manner the money shall be raised and expended; or take any action relating thereto.

Article 92. To see if the Town will authorize taking a sum of money voted for the appropriations heretofore made at this Town Meeting under this Warrant, and not voted to be borrowed, from any available funds in the treasury and will authorize the Assessors to use free cash in the treasury in any available funds to an amount not exceeding $350,000.00, in the determination of the 1957 tax rate.
And you will notify and warn the voters of the Town of Arl- ington to meet at the times and places herein specified by leaving at every dwelling house in the Town a printed copy of this War- rant, and also by posting a copy of the same at the doors of the Town Hall, and in a conspicuous place in each of the fourteen precincts of the Town, seven days at least before the day of said meeting for the election of officers.
Hereof, fail not, and make due return of the Warrant, with your doings thereon, to the Town Clerk before the day of said meeting.

By virtue of this warrant I have notified and warned the legal voters of the Town of Arlington to meet at the time and place and for the purposes herein specified by causing a printed attested copy of said warrant to be left at every dwelling house in the town previous to the day of the meeting for the election of officers and by posting an attested copy of said warrant at the doors of the Town Hall and in two or more conspicuous places in each of the fourteen precincts of the Town, seven days at least before the day of said meeting. A notice of the times, places and objects of the meetings was published in the local papers.

ANNUAL TOWN ELECTION, MARCH 4, 1957
In pursuance of the foregoing Warrant, the inhabitants of tlie Town of Arlington, qualified to vote in elections, met in the polling places designated by the Board of Selectmen for the several precincts in said Town on Monday, March 4, 1957, at seven o'clock in the forenoon.
Upon receipt of the returns as made by the election officers of the several precincts, they were canvassed by the Town Clerk and Registrars of Voters, assisted by Miss Ann Mahon, Assistant Town Clerk, and the result was announced at 12:15 A.M. on Tuesday, March 5, 1957, as follows:

In accordance with Section 61 of Chapter 51 of the General Laws, the return of the registered voters in the Town at the close of registration on February 12, 1957, was forwarded to the Secre- tary of the Commonwealth.
The result of the count of the votes cast at the Town Election was forwarded to the Secretary of the Commonwealth.
In accordance with Section 132 of Chapter 54 of the General Laws, the total number of voters checked on the voting lists in each precinct was forwarded to the Secretary of the Common- wealth.

Pursuant to the petitions filed with the Town Clerk, in ac- cordance with the provisions of law, a recount of the ballots cast in each precinct of the Town for the "Office of Selectmen" at the Annual Town Election held on March 4, 1957, was conducted by the Registrars of Voters, assisted by duly appointed clerks, in the Town Hall on Saturday, March 16, 1957, at 9:30 o'clock in the forenoon.
The result of the recount, which becomes the official record, was as follows:

In accordance with the law, the ballots were returned to the Town Clerk, and the Registrars of Voters certified the returns as herein tabulated to be the amended result and declared Joseph P. Greeley and Thomas R. Rawson elected as members of the Board of Selectmen for three years.

TOWN RECORDS
ANNUAL TOWN MEETING, MARCH 18, 1957
Pursuant to the Warrant of the Selectmen served according to law upon the inhabitants of the Town of Arlington by a con- stable of said Town, notices having been sent by mail by the Town Clerk at least seven days before the day of the meeting to the town meeting members elected and qualified to act in town meet- ings in Arlington under the provisions of Chapter 43A of the General Laws, as amended, and published in the local newspapers, as required by the Town's By-Laws, the town meeting members met in the Town Hall, in said Town, on Monday, March 18, 1957, at eight o'clock in the evening. The Warrant calling the meeting was the notice sent by mail by the Town Clerk.
Lists of the duly qualified town meeting members were used at the entrances of the meeting place and were in charge of Philip T. Robinson and James E. Sweeney. The lists contained the names of two hundred forty-seven (247) town meeting members qualified to participate in and vote in town meetings in Arlington.
The check lists filed with the Town Clerk at the close of the meeting by the checkers showed that two hundred fourteen (214) members and eight (8) members-at-large (90% of total - 247) attended the meeting.
Philip H. Burt was sworn by the Town Clerk as Stenographer to impartially and correctly report the proceedings of the meeting to the best of his ability.
The Moderator, Lawrence E. Corcoran, declaring a quorum present, called the meeting to order at 8:10 o'clock P.M.
The meeting was opened with the singing of "The Star Spangled Banner" by the assembly accompanied by Mr. Augustus Mazzocca, trumpeter, and Mr. Walter E. Russell, pianist, both of the School Department, and prayer offered by Rt. Rev. Cornelius T. H. Sherlock, Pastor of the Immaculate Conception Church.
The town meeting members who had not previously been sworn were thereupon sworn by the Moderator.
Mr. Thomas R. Rawson, Chairman of the Board of Selectmen, presented the following resolution on the passing of former Town Treasurer J. Wilbert Anderson, which was adopted by a unanimous standing vote, with a moment of silence being observed by the assembly:
