Lists of the duly qualified town meeting members were used at the entrances of the meeting place and were in charge of Mary A. Farrington and James E. Sweeney. The lists contained the names of two hundred forty three (243) elected town meeting members and seven (7) town meeting members at large qualified to participate in and vote in town meetings in Arlington.

The meeting was opened with the singing of the "Star Spangled Banner" by the assembly, accompanied by Mr. Augustus Mazzocca, trumpeter, and Mr. Walter E. Russell, pianist, both of the School Department, and invocation by Rev. Donald D. Menzel, Minister of the First Baptist Church.
A town meeting member who had not previously been sworn was thereupon sworn by the Moderator.

VOTED: £ That if all the business of the meeting as set forth in the Warrant is not disposed of at this session, when the meeting adjourns, it adjourn to Wednesday, March 25, 1959, at 8:00 o'clock.
Article 31: (Extension of Sewerage System.)
VOTED: That the sum of ten thousand (10,000) dollars be and hereby is appropriated for the extension of the Sewerage System; that for this purpose the sum of five thousand seventy five and 40/100 (5,075.40) dollars be raised by general tax and four thousand nine hundred and twenty four and 60/100 (4,924.60) dollars be taken from an unexpended balance now in the treasury under Article 60 of the 1954 Annual Town Meeting. "Construction of Ways"; said sum of ten thousand (10,000) dollars to be expended under the direction of the Town Manager substantially as follows:
