At a meeting of the Selectmen March 13th 1720/21 Then Caleb Kimball John Moulton Nathaniel Brown and Samuel Kemball appearsd and took the oaths of Assessors.


At a meeting of the Selectmen of Wenham March 13th 1721. Then reckoned with Stephen Patch consering the parcel of land his house standeth it being eight acres which his father Thomas Patch some time past hath paid rent for and another parcel of land three acres of land that was leased some time past unto Lieut. John Dodge deseased as may appear by lease more at large and for time past the date hereof there remains due to the town of Wenham the sum of thirty three shillings and for the future time so

March the 20th 1721 At a meeting of the Selectmen then agreed with William Rogers to keep the meeting house and ring the bell for the year ensueing untill the first day of March next coming after the date hereof and to have three pounds for his satisfaction.


At a meeting of the Selectmen May 5th 1721 then agreed and Appointed William Rogers to keep school for the year 1721 and appointed Mr. Daniel Dodge to keep school for the year ensueing for the town of Wenham and in consider- ation to have what the scholars shall pay they agreeing with the schoolmaster as to Sum

This is to certify whom it may concern that the Select- men of Beverly have chosen desired and empowered Lieut. John Thorndike Ensign Nathaniel Raymond Mr. John Herrick Jun. Mr. Joshua Dodge and Robert Woodbury Senr. or any three of them to be a committee to meet with the gentlemen appointed by the Selectmen of Wenham at the house of Caleb Kimball in said Wenham on the 22nd day of this instant May at nine of the clock in the morning and said they with them to purambulate on the line and renew the bounds between the said towns of Wenham and Beverly.

Viz. beginning at a white oak tree in Nathaniel Raymonds Pasture marked with W and B and stones about it and thence to a white oak tree at Alfords hill so called being marked with W and B with stones about it and from thence eastward to a stake and heap of stones on the easterly side of longham meadow which stake is marked with W and B thence to a stake and heap of stones on the Southeasterly side of Raccoon Marsh so called and thence Southeasterly to a yellow oak tree marked with W and B and stones about it and thence running easterly to a white Oak tree on grav- elly Ridge so called marked W and B and stones about it and thence to a white oak tree at Pressons Corner marked W and B with stones about it and thence by Robert Wood- burys bounds to a stub white oak formerly a whole tree marked with W and B with stones about it with a small pine bush growing by said Stub all which is according to the

At a meeting of the Selectmen of Wenham Febuary 28th 1720/21 Then reckoned with Constable John Gott and Constable John Dodge and then allowed them as is here- after agreed on Viz.


to Constable John Gott ten shillings for warning town meetings more than ordinary and for his collecting of rates this year 1720 according to a town vote sometime past which is fourpence per pound and for mending of the meeting house seats and for last money in his rate and for abatement upon that part of the province rate he was to pay in unto our town treasuer the sum being £7 19s 9d and we allowed him 12 pence pr. pound for said sum all which sums are put together the sum of £5 10$ 5d and gave Order to our town treasuer to pay the same.


And at the same time above mentioned reckoned and accounted with Constable John Dodge and then allowed him ten shillings for warning town meetings more than ordernary and according to a town vote some time past allowed him 4 pence pr pound for collecting town and province rates for the year 1720 committed to him to collect discounting thirteen shillings and seven pence over pluss in the province taxes which was allowed him towards his collecting rates this year as is upon record as may appear more largly and for summonsing Joseph Edwards and Thomas Patch to take the Oaths respectively to their offices the sum of one shilling and sixpence and for warning Mary Wherlor out of town one shilling which sums put together is £2 3$ 10d and the said thirteen shillings and seven pence being reduced out of said sum there remains due to said Dodge thee sum of £1 7$ 9d if rightly cast and have given order to our town treasuer to pay the said sum of one pound and seven shillings as may appear upon record and the said Gott and said Dodge then consented to the allowance and reckoning above said by their agreeing there to.


At a legal town meeting July the 24th 1721 Capt. Thomas Fisk chosen moderator for this meeting.


Voted to raise the sum of one hundred pounds to pay the reverend Mr. Ward the hundred pounds the town have agreed to pay him for his settlement in our town and fifty pounds to defray our towns debts.

At a legal town meeting August the eighth 1721 John Gott Chosen Representative


At a meeting of the Selectmen of Wenham on the 25th day of July 1721 then and on the 26th day of said July then there was a tax made of one hundred pounds in two lists for the paying of the reverend Mr. Ward for his settlement in our town as our town have agreed Viz.


to Constable Ebenezer Fisk a list ammounting to the sum of £61 13s 0d to be paid in unto our town treasuer at or before the first day of december next after the date hereof and a warrant annexed thereto.


And at the same time a list to Constable Benjamin Ed- wards to be paid in unto our town treasuer at the same time amounting to the sum of £52 4s 2ª with a warrant annexd thereto


And at the same time above mentioned July 25 and 26th 1721 a tax was made of fifty pounds to defray our towns debts in two lists Viz. to Constable Ebenezer Fisk a list of thirty pounds thirteen shillings and eight pence £30 13$ 8ª to be paid in unto our town treasuer at or before the first day of November next coming after the date hereof with a warrant annexed thereunto.


And a list to Constable Benjamin Edwards amounting to the sum of £26 5$ 1ª to be paid in unto our town treasuer at or before the first day of November above said together with a warrant annexed thereto all which lists are com- mitted respectively to each Constable above mentioned.


At a meeting of the Selectmen August 22nd 1721 then agreed that division of the highway between the town part and the neck part is so far through the Swamp called Claflin's swamp as against the roots of an old Stump in William Rogers pasture by his fence and all the way to the westward of said stump to be mended by the town surveyor and all the way to the eastward of said stump to be mended by the surveyor on the neck for the year ensueing.


At a meeting of the Selectmen of Wenham September the 27th 1721 then two lists were made for the paying our province treasuer


and one list is committed unto Constable Benjamin Ed- wards amounting to the sum of fifteen pounds three shil- lings and one penny £15 3$ 1ª whereof he is to pay to our

province treasuer £12 14º 11/2d and he is to pay to our town treasuer the sum £2 8$ 11d.


And the other list is committed unto Constable Ebenezer Fisk and he is to pay the province treasuer £15 4$ 6ª and to our town treasuer the sum of £4 4$ 8ª the whole list amounting to £19 9$ 2d the above said sum to our town treasuer is to be paid at or before the last day of Febuary next coming after the date hereof.

At a legal town meeting Oct. 30th 1721. Capt Thomas Fisk chosen moderator for this meeting.


Voted that the proportion of money of province bills that is to our town shall be let out upon five pounds upon the hundred per year.


It was put to vote wether the town will let the Rev. Mr. Robert Ward have the proportion of money that the great and general Court have proportioned to our town upon five pounds per hundred per annum upon good Security.


Voted on the affirmative.


At a legal town meeting January 15th 1721/22 Mr. Capt. Thomas Fisk chosen moderator for this meeting. Voted to raise the sum of sixty pounds to pay the reverend Mr. Ward the first half years Salary and our town debts.


Gentlemen these serve to notify you that the Selectmen of this town have appointed on the last Monday of this present month to settle the bounds tree and the twenty acres of land according to the proposals areed on at our perambulation in April last the same allso having been agreed to and accepted of by our town and will meet you at nine of the clock on said day at the sign of the Ark in Beverly. By order of the Selectmen

We whose names are hereunto Subscribed Selectmen of the towns of Salem and Wenham being appointed and empowered by our respective towns to settle and confirm the bound tree and the twenty acres of land according to the proposals made and agreed to at the perambulation on the 19th of April last and the same allso having been agreed to and accepted of by our said towns have accordingly met this 27th day of June 1721 and have settled and confirmed the white Oak tree standing in Joseph Herricks Stone wall to be a corner bounds tree between our said towns by mark- ing of the same with S on the one side and W on the other side by laying some stones at the roots there of from which tree on a straight line to the white oak tree marked with S W B and S which is the bounds tree between Salem and Wenham and Beverly the said line runs between John Herricks house and a large walnut tree near the southwest

corner in the front of said house and have allso measured of settled and confirmed the said twenty Acres of land adjoining the line on Wenham side a little east of John Herricks barn according to the plan hereto annexd and the same to be belonging unto Salem for a full and final settle- ment thereof so that the whole bounds betwen our said towns of Salem and Wenham runs thus Viz. begining at a white Oak tree marked with S and W and T. which is the bound tree between Wenham Salem and Topsfield Standing near the northerly end of Wenham Causway from thence over Wenham Causway about southeasterly near the east- erly end of said Causway to a stake and heap of stones which is the divisional bounds between Wenham and Por- ters farm and from said stake about S. W. to an old de- caved black oak tree near to the head of John Leaches meadow standing close by a walnut which is allso said to be Andrews Corner bounds from thence about Southeasterly to the white oak tree now marked with S and W from said tree. S. E. by 71 degrees about 84 poles to a heap of stones in John Herricks orchard about 7 foot northwesterly from a small apple tree which we marked being the fifth tree in the second row from the Southern wall from thence Northeasterly nineteen degrees 28 and a half poles and two links to a heap of stones in Joseph Herricks ground from thence Southeasterly by 71 degrees 112 poles to a stake and heap of stones in James Meachens meadow from thence southwesterly 19 degrees 28 poles 1/2 and 2 links to a white oak tree marked with S W and B and S standing in Nathaniel Raymonds pasture which is the bound tree be- tween Salem Wenham and Beverly all of which pursuant to the power given us as above we have settled and con- firmed as the full of our bounds between our said towns the day and year above mentioned as witness our hands Caleb Kemball

At a meeting of the Selectmen of Wenham May the 15th 1723 upon the request of Jonathan Dodge Jun. of Beverly then layed out a highway about fifteen foot wide being staked out lying at the corner next William Rogers bars by Josiah Dodges from the land formerly Joshua Williams to the highway it being about half a pole to said way from said land the highway is for said Jonathan Dodge and those that succeed him in that land the said way is partly over the land formerly Nathaniel Waldrons that is in posession and it was to be left a highway as it may more at large appear by a town grant and takes about half a pole of the land and the other part is over the land of William Rogers the said way is fifteen foot from a stake by said Dodges Wall to a stake by said Waldrons wall about 3 foot from the end of it.

And at a meeting of the Selectmen March 12th 1721/22 then Joseph Edwards appeared and refused to take the oath of Sealer of leather he was chosen to. At a meeting of the Selectmen March 21st 1721/22 Then Daniel Claflin ap- peared and took the oath of his office.

Viz. a list committed to Constable Daniel Fisk amounting to the sum of £39 13s 6ª to be paid in unto our town treasuer at or before the tenth day of May next coming after the date hereof and warrant annex'd thereto and make up his accounts at or before the first day of June next coming after the date hereof.


And a list is committed to Constable Joseph Haggitt amounting to the sum of £31 14$ 11ª to be paid in unto our town treasuer at or before the tenth day of May next com- ing after the date hereof and make up his accounts at or before the first day of June next coming after the date hereof with a warrant annex'd to them.


At a town meeting May the 10th 1722 of our town Lieut. John Porter chosen moderator for this meeting. William Rogers chosen Representative for the year ensueing Voted to choose Samuel Kilham Thomas White and Nathaniel Brown to view the land that William Dodge would have to set his wall on and to have full power to dispose of the same and to settle the bounds at their dis- cresion. Voted that Swine shall go at large.


We the subscribers being chosen to view the land that Mr. William Dodge would have to set his wall on and to have full power to dispose of the same and to settle the bounds at their discresion and accordingly we have viewed the land and have agreed that said William Dodge shall have the land the fence now stands on and all the land he hath taken in by said fence from Aron Jones his land north- westerly to an old wall and damson tree the said William Dodge paying to the town fifteen shillings money as witness our hands this fifteenth day of May 1722.
