May 17th 1725 At a meeting of the Selectmen of Wenham then agreed with William Rogers to keep school in our town untill the first of October next ensueing the date hereof for reasonable satisfaction besides what the scholars shall pay he keeping account of what the scholars pay

Voted that there shall be added fifteen pounds to the ministers Salary tax's for the defraying of other town charges.

There is in Constable Samuel Gotts list to pay to the prov- ince treasuer £54 12$ 0d and to pay in unto the town treas- uer the sum of two pounds five shillings and five pence. And in Constable Josiah Dodges list to pay to the province treasuer £38 11$ 4ª and to pay to our town treasuer the sum of 8$ 4d

At a general town meeting of the inhabitants and free- holders of Wenham for the choice of town officers as the law directs and other buisness according to warrant duely warned and convened. Lieut. John Porter chosen moderator. For selectmen Lieut. John Porter William Dodge Nathaniel Brown Thomas White and William Fairfield are chosen for the year ensueing. William Fairfield chosen town Clerk for the year ensueing. Thomas Perkins chosen Constable for the west and Nathaniel Fairfield for the east end of our town for the year ensueing.


Stephen Patch chosen town treasuer for the year ensueing. For Surveyors of highways for the west end Benjamin Herrick. John Kemball for the middle and Richard Dodge for the east were chosen to said office in their respective parts of the town.


For tithing men Eben". Batchelder Timothy Patch and


Robert Cue were chosen for the year ensueing.

William Dodge and William Fairfield took thhe oath's of Assessors. William Fairfield Stephen Patch Nathaniel Fairfield John Kemball Benjamin Herrick Richard Dodge Thomas Perkins Ebenezer Batchelder Timothy Patch Rob- ert Cue Theophelus Fisk Edward Waldron Daniel Fairfield and Josiah White all took the oaths of their respective offices whereunto they were chosen.


At a meeting of the Selectmen March 4th 1725/6 David Batchelder appeared and took the oath of a fence viewer and sealer of weights and measures and Joseph Edwards took the oath of Sealer of leather.


At a meeting of the Selectmen March 4th 1725/6 then agreed with Andrew Center to look after the meeting house and do the work of a sexton for the year ensueing on the terms he did it last year and to have three pounds for his service.


We the subscribers a committee appointed by the Select- men of Ipswich and the Selectmen of the town of Wenham to purambulate the line between Ipswich and Wenham ex- tending from the brier bush to Wenham Island have ac- cordingly attended the said service and purambulated the line from the brier bush in Nathaniel Browns orchard near adjoining to the country road or highway to a walnut at the northwesterly corner of Ebenezer Batchelders pasture thence to a white oak stump thence to White oak Stump on the Westerly side of pleasant pond marked between a white oak and a birch tree marked each of them next to the said stump. thence to a pine stub marked near hemlock Island which we new marked thence to a beach on Hemlock Island new marked thence to a birch new marked between Hemlock and Fowlers Island thence to a beach on Fowlers Island new marked thence to a black Birch near to a Red oak a former bounds which we marked by consent of Mr. Daniel Kilham thence to the great white oak on Wigwam Island new marked thence to a maple near the Spring which we new marked

At a meeting of the Selectmen March 4th 1725/6


Then we appointed and agreed with Nathaniel Brown of said Wenham to be a school master in our town for the year ensueing for to teach children to read and write and to give him suitable satisfaction as he may reasonably deserve for said service and he is to give an account of what he receives of the scholars and that to be a part of the satis- faction for his said service.


Boston May 31st 1726 .- Received of Mr. Josiah Dodge Constable of Wenham thirty eight pounds eleven shillings and fourpence in full for my master £38 11s 4d Jeremiah Allen Treasuer pr. George Rogers The above receipt is truly entered,

May 10th 1726 - At a meeting of the freeholders and other inhabitants qualified to vote in choice of a represent- ative . Lieut. John Porter and other town business chosen Representative


William Fairfield chosen moderator for the remainder of the work for this meeting.


Voted that the Selectmen draw twenty pound out of the town Stock in the treasuers hand to enable the trustees to pay in that of the towns part of the loan money for the year 1726 which twenty pounds is the towns fifth part of the hundred which they received out of the two hundred thirty two to pay for a piece of land for a parsonage.


In answer to Rev. Mr. Wards request the town voted that what was done should be done by contribution sometime in about three weeks the Deacon giving a fortnight warning beforehand


At a meeting of the Selectmen July 11th 1726 Then agreed with Andrew Center to keep the pound for this year ensueing.


Received of Stephen Patch of Wenham treasuer the sum of four pounds ten shillings and five pence in full for the County rate for the town of Wenham

July 11th 1726 At a meeting of the selectmen a notification was posted up in Wenham requiring the inhabitants of said town to bring in to the Selectmen or some one of them their bills of all poles and rateable estate in said town at or before the 6th day of August next.


At a meeting of the Selectmen of Wenham Augt. 1726 a province tax was made in two distinct lists the one in the hands of Constable Thomas Perkins amount- ing to £55 8$ 5ª of which there was payable to the Province treasuer £53 2$ 6ª and the other two pounds 5 shillings 11 pence in his hands untill he shall account with the town treasuer for collecting rates loss money and other services.


and the other list is in Constable Nathaniel Fairfields hands amounting to £38 14s 2ª of which there is payable to the province treasuer £36 115 8ª and the remainder being £2 2$ 6ª is left in his hands is to be accounted for in making up his accounts with the town treasuer for his collecting rates and other services.


June 18th 1726 - Then received of William Dodge the sum of fifteen shillings which he owed to the town for the land he bought to set his stone wall on. I say received by Stephen Patch town treasuer The above receipt is truly entered.

At a meeting of the Selectmen March 7th 1726/7 William Fairfield Stephen Patch Ebenezer Fisk Jona- than Porter Rice Knowlton John Dodge Joseph Haggitt Simon Patch John Porter Jun Walter Fairfield Zacheus Goldsmith Jun and David Batchelder all appeared and was sworn. to the faithful discharge of their respective offices.


At a meeting of the Selectmen March 10th 1727 Jona- than Kemball and Ebenezer Kemball both appeared and were sworn to the office of Constables whereunto they were chosen the 7th current Then allso Lieut. John Porter Thomas White Nathaniel Brown and William Dodge Selectmen were sworn to the faithful discharge of work of assessors for the ensueing year. As allso Samuel Gott and James Rix were sworn to the offices whereto they were chosen at town meeting the 7th of March Current.


Then allso the Selectmen agreed with Nathaniel Brown to keep school in our town for the year ensueing. to learn such as shall be sent to him for to read and write and to have reasonable satisfaction for his service of the town over and above what the Scholars paid he giving an account thereof.

October 19th 1727 - At a meeting of the inhabitants and frecholders of Wenham duely warned and convened for giving order for a town rate

Voted to raise one hundred and ten pounds.


November the 6th 1727 - At a meeting of the free holders and other inhabitants of Wenham for the Choice of Rep- resentative according to his majestys precept to us directed. We made choice of Lieut. Samuel Kimball to serve accord- ingly.


November 10th 1727 At a meeting of the Selectmen a province tax was made in two lists


one in constable Ebenezer Kemballs ward amounting to the sum of £20 10$ 6ª


and the other in Constable Jonathan Kemballs ward amounting to the sum of £33 4$ 5d of which sum was pay- able to the province treasuer according to their several orders £53 02$ 0d the remainder being 12$ 11ª is left in the hands of said Constables to be accounted for to wit twelve shillings and five pence in Jonathan Kimballs hands.


November 15th 1727 At a meeting of the Selectmen a town tax was made in two distinct lists and committed to the Constables.


To wit to Constable Jonathan Kimball a list amounting to £69 4$ 7d £ and to Constable Ebenezer Kemball a list of £46 6$ 8d with warrants annexed thereunto to collect and pay in the same so as to complete their accounts at or be- fore the first of may next ensueing.

At a meeting of the Selectmen April the 1st 1728 then agreed with Andrew Senter to keep the meeting house and ring the bell untill next March Annual meeting for the sum of three pound and to dig the graves and toll the bell for funerals for five shillings when the ground is open and ten shillings when it is froze to be paid by every person that shall employ him and keep the pound for the fees belonging to the pound keeper for the year ensueing.

For hog reeves Daniel Kilham and Nathaniel Brown Jun. the above named officers were all sworn the same day except the Constables.


At a meeting of the Selectmen on March 8th 1728 the two Constables were Sworn to the discharge of their office.


April 1st 1728 - At a meeting of the freeholders of Wenham convened according to warrant for choosing trustees to fetch and dispose of our town proportion of money according to the province Act.

Voted to fetch our towns proportion of money for trustees Lieut Samuel Kemball Nathaniel Brown and William Fairfield are chosen.


Voted that the trustees shall dispose of and let out the towns proportion of money to the inhabitants of our own town (if a number appear sufficient to take it) to no man

Wenham May 13th 1728 - At a meeting of the freeholders and other inhabitants qualified to vote in town affairs assembled and voted in the following particulars as ex- pressly mentioned in the warrant.

Voted that he should prefer a petition to general Court for the abatement of the charges arising by our towns maintaining one there at Court.


Voted that the trustees of the £50.000 loan paying in the principal they discharging Mr. Ward shall be likewise discharged of the interest.


Voted that the Swine being Yoked and Ring'd shall go at large the year ensueing.


Voted that the Selectmen shall make up account with and discharge Benjamin Fisk late treasuer.


Voted that the ranging bounds between Wenham and Bev- erly be recorded.


At a meeting of the Selectmen May 13th 1728 then agreed with David Batchelder to keep a school in our town for to teach such as shall be sent to learn to read and write and to be paid for his services what he may reasonable deserve he giving an account of what he receives of the Scholars which shall be accounted as a part of or towards his satis- faction which agreement shall continue till next March meeting.


We the Subscribers considering the disadvantages of not having ranging bounds between Alfords tree so called and the Stake and heap of stones at Longham Meadow which are two ancient marks between the towns of Beverly and Wenham being by appointment met together on friday the 23rd day of Febuary Anno Domini 1728 have run the line between the two aforesaid bounderais and accordingly fixed a Stake in the wall two rods and five links of the chain

distant southerly from an apple tree in the Southerly Cor- ner of the land of the heirs Mordica Larcom deseased as one bounds between said towns and allso a large round Stone on the top of the wall which stands on Southerly side of the way. five rods to the eastward of Andrew Dodges house and one rod westwardly of a small apple tree by the way side which is marked W. B. with a marking Iron as another bounds and allso a small heap of stones three feet and one half to the northward of a small poplar tree marked on the Northward side of it with W.B. with a mark- ing Iron said poplar tree standing in the land which be- longed to the heirs of Peter Woodbury Jun. Deceasd. as another bounds and allso a stake standing in the wall on the easterly side of the country road to the northward of the house of Freeborn Balch three feet 1/2 southerly on a Square from an apple tree marked on the westerly side with a W. as another bounds and all four of the afore said boundries or mearks do according to the best of our skill being assisted by Mr Josiah Batchelder of Salem Surveyor Stand exactly ranging in the line between the towns afore- said from said Alfords tree to the stake and heap of Stones afore said and in confirmation hereoff we do here- unto set our hands the day and year above written. September 13th 1728 - A province tax was made in two distinct lists viz


one in Constable Benjamin Herricks ward amounting to £44 13s 4ª all payable to the province treasuer


and the other in Constable Thomas Patches ward amount- ing to £32 13$ 9d of which there is thirty one pound 12 shil- lings 8 pence payable to the province treasuer and the one pound one shilling and one penny to be accounted for towards his collecting.


At a meeting of the inhabitants of Wenham September 30th 1728 in order to raise money to defray the towns debts according to warrant William Fairfield choosen moderator Voted that there be raised by a tax on the inhabitants of our town the sum of one hundred and twenty pound to defray the towns debts.


At a meeting of the Selectmen November .. 1728 a town tax was made in two distinct lists and committed to the Constables amounting to £127 11s 9d


of which Benjamin Herrick was to collect and pay into the town £71 5$ 9d


and Constable Thomas Patch was to pay £56 6s Od each to the town treasuer and each of them having warrants an- exed to their lists requiring them to make up and issue their accounts by the first day of May following.

January 20th 1728/9 - At a meeting of the Selectmen of Wenham Rice Knowlton Informed the Selectmen that one Joseph Annable and Elizabeth his wife and Anna Annable daughter to said Joseph Thomas Wiles a grand child all of the family of said Annable came into Wenham from Salem on the 16th day of last November and are now resident in his house in Wenham the man and woman being both aged.
