May 11th 1714 - At a legal town meeting duely warned of the inhabitants of Wenham to choose a Representative to represent our town at Boston the year ensueing; at the great and general Court or Assembly
|Deacon William Fisk chosen Representative| for the year ensueing.
At a meeting of the Selectmen May 25th 1714 Lieut. John Porter is by the Selectmen appointed to be a receiver of that parcel of money that is raised for to provide where withall to repair our meeting house, he being one of the committee to see to the doeing of the matter conserning of said house and to be accountable for the same, and an order sent to him for directions in the same.
At a meeting of the Selectmen May 25th 1714 Ensign Samuel Kimball is appointed to over see and inform of any breach of the laws respecting or relating to said office and to have meet and honourable recompence for his pains as the law directs.
At a meeting of the Selectmen May 25th 1714 William Rogers is ordered to go to a justice to procure a warrant to carry |one Margaret Poland out of town| (her two sons have given bonds as on page 111)
At a legal town meeting of the inhabitants duely warned Sept. 9th 1714 Deacon William Fisk chosen Moderator for this meeting but refusing to serve, Sargent John Gott chosen Moderator for this meeting.
Voted to raise 60 pounds to defray the charges allready laid out about our meeting house and to complete the finish- ing the outside of said house.
Voted to defer the plaistering of the inside of the meet- ing house untill another year.

Voted to choose a committee to place persons in the meet- ing house and to do what is needful in that matter.
Voted that our women shall be placed on the east side of our meeting house and in the east gallery.

Lieut. John Porter chosen moderator for this meeting
Voted to defer the repairing of the |Turritt| untill next Spring.
Voted that there shall be no window holes cut in the sides of our meeting house without leave of the town and that those holes that are allready cut shall be closed up if the persons against the seats will not secure and keep them well glazed with glass.
Voted to sell Mr. Whipple and Mr. Tiltons pews that was, to some of the propritors of our town by a committee and the room from the corner of the pulpit to Mr. Whipples pew that was.
Sergent John Gott, John Friend and William Rogers are chosen to be a committee for the disposing of the pews and room above said.
Voted that the committee that was chosen to seat our meeting house shall have power or are empowered to regu- late or alter the mens and womens seats in our meeting house to make them convenient.
At a meeting of the Selectmen Aug. 16th 1714 a tax was made for the paying the province tax in two distinct lists.
A list on poles and estates in Constable Thomas Tarbox's ward amounting to the sum of £55 00s 00d to be paid into the province treasuer and ten shillings over pluss is for his gathering.
And a list on poles and estates in Constable Samuel Por- ters ward, a list to be paid into the province treasuery the sum of £43 6$ 6ª and about thirteen shillings over pluss. allowed him for gathering the lists are committed unto each constable.
November the third 1714.
Received of Constable Ebenezer Batchelder the sum of thirteen pounds in full of the towns rate the money part he was to pay to me. I say received by me,

At a meeting of the Selectmen of Wenham Nov. 2nd & 3rd 1714 pursuant from a vote of the town. A tax is made in two distinct lists and committed to the Constable of Wen- ham with a warrant anex'd to each list. In Constable Thomas Tarbox list a sum amounting to £99 .. 09$ .. 00d to be paid in unto our town treasurer by the first day of January next coming after the date hereof and 18 cords of wood to be paid in unto the Reverend Mr. Gerish by the last of Febuary to include all accounts for the same allowing Mr. Gerrish his receipts and the Selectmens Several Orders.
In Constable Samuel Porters list a sum amounting to £78 17$ 2d to be paid in unto our town treasuer or to whom his warrant directs all by the last of January next coming after the date hereof and 12 cords of wood to be paid in unto Rev. Mr. Joseph Gerrish by the last of Febuary next coming after the date hereof, he the Constable Mr. Gerrish receipts and the several orders granted by the Selectmen.
In both lists of the town rate the whole sum is £178 06s 2d

Know all men by these presents that we Anthony Dicke- son and Nathaniel Dickeson both of Ipswich in the County of Essex and in the province of the Massachusetts Bay in New England Tailor cordwainer are holden and do Stand firmly bound unto the town of Wenham in the full and just sum of one hundred pounds money of New Eng- land to be paid unto the said town of Wenham or town treasuer or to the selectmen of said town or whom they shall appoint to see or receive the same or any of them or their successors to the which payment well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves our heirs executors administrators Jointly or severally firmly by these presents sealed with our seals dated June the eighth day in the year of our lord one thousand seven hundred and fourteen. 1714
The condition of the above written obligation is such that if the above bounden Anthony Dickeson Nathaniel Dicke- son or any of their heirs Executors administrators or either or any of them shall well and faithfully bar the town of Wenham indemnified and harmless of and from any cost and charge that shall or may any ways happen or to arise by reason of their mother Margret Polland widow late of Ipswich and now removed into Wenham being any ways an inhabitant of said town. if the said Anthoy or Nathaniel Dickeson or any of their heirs shall pay all charges and expense that the overseers of the poor shall be exposed unto any ways or the town of Wenham if through the providence of God their said mother shall come to want or any ways shall be chargeble to said town or Selectmen of Wenham then the above written obligation to be void and of non effect else to stand and remain and abide in full strenth and virtue and force.

William Fairfield chosen Moderator for this meeting.
Voted that the town treasurer shall with stay his hand from paying the Selectmens Orders untill the next general town meeting or untill further order.

At a meeting of the Selectmen March 1st 1714/15 Then reckoned and accounted with Samuel Porter Con- stable for a rate commited to him amounting to the sum seventy eight pounds, seventeen shillings and two pence and he said Porter having paid and allowed the several sums according to the directions in his warrant the list bearing date November 4th 1714 £78 17s 2ª As appears by receipts of several persons bearing even dates herewith and sum before and the several sums amounting to the sum of £55 17s 0d and the allowance and we do allow the said Porter the sum of forty shillings that is allowed him in page 139 for collecting and his acquital of all the town rate above mentioned by paying to the town the sum £23 0$ 2d:

Know all men by these presents, that I Thomas White of Wenham, in the County of Essex in the province of the Massachusetts bay in New England husbandman for and in consideration of forty shillings in hand paid by William Dodge of Wenham above said husbandman have given granted bargained sold alleinated, Enfeofed conveyed and confirmed unto the said William Dodge a certain common right it being the one eighth part of the one ninth part of the undivided Common land in our town of Wenham to have and to hold to him the said William Dodge his heirs executors administrators and assigns forever in himself with all priveledges belonging thereto without any man- ner of reservasion or after claim to be had or made by me or any of mine whatsoever and in confirmation of all above written I have set to my hand on 1st March 1714/15 his Thomas f White mark

Voted to choose a committee of three men to join with John Porter Samuel Kemball and William Rogers that were Selectmen in the year 1712 or any three they shall choose to adjust their accounts or what is reasonable they shall have having reffernce to a vote past by the town to pay their cost on the 2nd day of last March and the terms of their petition to be equal in power and in case they cant agree to choose a middle man to decide the matter.
Voted to chose William Fairfield, John Friend Thomas Edwards to be for a committee for the service as above to join with the said Selectmen.
Thomas Tarbox refused to take the oath of Constable objecting to serve. he served the last year past as Con- stable on the day above said.
Voted that all treasuers and receivers that have any of the towns debts or money in their hands shall withhold paying anything to the Selectmen or their witnesses untill the thing is isued.

Pursuant to the towns vote at a meeting of the Select- men March 4th 1714/15.
then agreed that the highways eastward of the new bridge with the inhabitants living on the east side of the great pond river shall belong to the neck ward for mending of the highways the year ensueing. and all the new bridge with all the causways| belonging to be to the town ward.
Allso agreed with William Rogers to keep the meeting house and ring the bell and keep school untill the first day of March next for three pounds.

At a meeting of the Selectmen on April the 20th 1715 the Selectmen then agreed and gave orders to the town Clerk to draw a warrant for the calling of a town meet- ing and to be on the 4th of May 1715 at one o'clock to choose a representative to go to Boston and a Constable to fill up the vacancy. Thomas Tarbox not accepting to serve as constable for 1715 and to do any other buisness for the town then to be done a warrant is directed to Con- stable Richard Fowler accordingly dated on the 20th of April 1715 and signed by |order of the Selectmen and town clerk

John Porter town treasuer for this present who is alike required to call for and receive in the same and therewith to make payment of such Sum or Sums as he shall receive orders from lawfull authority for the paying of as allso three pounds in the hands of Joseph Fowler and three pounds in the hands of John Batchelder which Sums are for pews in our meeting house sold them by the town and in the treasuer own hands £1 05s 00d and give out a coppy to the treasuer for the time being of the same and the town clerk's hereby ordered to record this account and order

At a town meeting on May the 4th 1715 duely warned for choosing representative to go to Boston to represent our Town, and for the choosing a Constable to fill up the va- cancy Thomas Tarbox being chosen at the last general town mecting to the office of Constable. he refusing to Serve therein. and do any other town buisness that is to be done.

Whereas the inhabitants of Wenham have passed a vote that our late Selectmen and their witnesses should have the money they have gotten as may more largely appear on record Conserning the same yet some of the inhabitants of Wenham have by way of petition to the great and gen- eral Court complained of our late selectmen aledging in their petition as if that the said Selectmen had done the town rong as if the town was likely to be damnified by their maneagment as may more largely appear by the petition Set forth to the general Court on June last past and the great and general Court having had a hearing of the matter have ordered a Special Session to be held and Kept at Wenham the town to bear the charge if the parties are not agreed before their giving notice of their coming as may more largely appear by Court record Therefore to prevent further cost and charge in this matter of the sessions coming.
At the meeting of the inhabitants assembled, the town having considerd the accounts concerning the complaint

and the things alledged against the said selectmen and the town, dont find upon enquiring into the same that the said Selectmen have done the town any wrong in the matter concerning the same therefore do allow and confirm what they have done in those matters
these are therefore to certify whom it may concern that the inhabitants of the town of Wenham and said Select- men are agreed
and it is agreed upon by said town that the said Select- men and their witnesses shall have all the money that they have allready gotten as it was voted by the town for them to have on May the 4th 1715 as may more largely appear upon record concerning the matters
which sum as is mentioned on record and orders drawn for the same the said Selectmen do receive in full of the coste granted them by the town March 2nd 1713 for peace and quietness did agree although it is not one half of the cost they have been exposed unto yet the said selectmen upon the above said agreement do acquit the town of any further cost granted them at the above said time March the 2nd 1713/14 as witness our hands

John Lowell Junr of Ipswich hath taken up a stray man colt about 3 years old doing damage. the said colt is of a blackish color some white hairs and slit in the right ear and was taken up on the 5th of July 1715 and a notification hereof was set up dated the 19th of July 1715 at Wenham and was then entered with the town Clerk at the same time.
