DANIEL CONNORS,
CHARLES H. SLADE, HARRY J. JENNISON,
Selectmen of Walpole.
The bridge committee accepted the bid of Walsh's Holyoke Steam Boiler Works, of Holyoke, Mass., of $25,978.00 for the bridge superstructure, this being the lowest bid, and employed John J. Fitzgerald, of North Walpole, to rebuild the abut- ments and repair the piers.
The bridge has been erected according to the plans and specifications of the engineers, Messrs. J. R. Worcester & Co., Boston, Mass., and is complete with the exception of the gravel roadway and painting. The $24,000.00 bonds authorized at the special town meeting have been issued and sold. The total
24
cost of the work up to the present time is $32,222.98, of which amount Walpole's proportion is $21,481.99. The committee has reserved $1,000 of the amount due the steel contractor to cover the cost of roadway and painting, and has sufficient funds remaining to about take care of the engineer's fee and minor bills.
A detailed account of all receipts and payments will be given in next year's report on the completion of the bridge.

Many books pre- sented last year by the General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen were not catalogued till after March 1, 1910. The thanks of the town are due to all who have presented books.
The attendance at the main library for the year 1910 was 8,437.
The number of volumes taken out in 1910 was 11,182, divided as follows :
Main library, 9,029
North Walpole branch, 2,003
Drewsville branch, 150
29
The branch at North Walpole has been carried on as usual with Miss Anna C. Hartnett as librarian. The branch at Drewsville has been cared for by Mr. Henry E. Putnam. Both branches have been of great value in their localities.
The library has been kept open during the winter from 12 to 1 on Tuesdays and Thursdays when the village schools have been in session, and has been used freely by the pupils in the schools. This plan has made it more convenient for those living out of the village to take out books.
