To the Inhabitants of the Town of Hanover in Town Meet- ing Afsembled-Gentlemen-


Your Committee appointed to take into confideration the Cafes of such persons as may apprehend they have an Equita- ble Claim to an abatement in part or whole of the proportion of the Demand now lying against this Town for arrears of State Taxes-previous to the year 1784-and to report to the Town their oppinion thereon-Having attended to said persons [63] and heard and duly confidered there reafons : Beg leave to report as follows Viz: That we find no equitable claim for abatement to any perfons who were ratable in the Town pre- vious to, and at the time of Making the List in the year 1782 as the substance of the money to be raifed is ultimately to sat- isfy the Demands of the state against us since the time of tak- ing the List in said year-That with regard to those perfons who have removed into the Town since that period and have since paid Taxes in any other State or Town, or have been soldiers in the Army We have attended to thier several and particular Cafes, and further report, as our Oppinion ; that there be an Abatement on the List for the prefent year on which said Tax is to be made (so far only as relates to said Arrears) to the several perfons hereafter Named the sums annexed to their respective names Viz To Peter Knap 15/. the following Report of a Highway made by the selectmen Viz the return of A Road from Nathan Wests to Seth Wests is as follows beginning at A stake and stones 4 Rods and and half west of the Dwelling houfe of Nathan Weft then run south II Degrees west 18 rods then south 35 Degrees East 8 rods then south 65 Degrees East 52 rods then south 34 do East 18 rods then south 3 Degrees East 14 rods then south 3 Degrees West 30 rods then south 20 Degrees west 16 rods Sum total 156 rods to a stake and stones 3 rods [69] East from Seth Wests Dwelling Houfe where a Road began as will appear by a Return made thereof in 1785 Dated Hanover Nov" 15.th A D. 1786
