To the Brethren of the first Church of Christ and to the people in Hanover

Beloved Brethren

I have Endeavoured to take into. the most serious considera- tion the call you have given me to settle amongst you in the Gospel Ministry-the occafion you have to Give me or any one elfe an invitation of this nature is much to be lamented-your situation I view as being critical and difficult which has given me no small anxiety of mind in determining what is duty as to a compliance with your request [81] when I consider the im- portance of the divine Honour the interest of the redeemers Kingdom, & the worth of souls immortal ; the greatnefs of the sacred work and my own insufficiency for it, I am ready to tremble at the thought of undertaking for you But weighing matters on every hand your call appears to me to be the call of Providence : and therefore with a firm reliance on the alfuf- ficient grace of God, I give an affirmative anfwer thereto earn- estly solisiting a remembrance in your adrefses to the mercy- seat that God would be with me, crown my labours with suc- cefs-and make me a rich blefsing to you so long as he shall see fit to continue me in the paftoral office and work in this place

Wishing you the smiles of Heaven, the Gracious prefence and divine protection of the great Head of the Church I sub- scrib myself

your cordial Friend and Pastor Elect
