John and Rachel, then Curtis, afterwards Vanderbeck, now Brannin, and that John Curtis Jr. died since Oct. 3, 1796, leaving two children, Tilton and Achsah.

MISCELLANEOUS NOTES


David N. Curtis, of Manasquan, born 1827, died Oct. 22, 1904; married Rebecca, daughter of Elisha and Lydia Jeffrey, who died in the early part of 1906, aged over So years. They left issue, Lydia Aten, Mable Nock, Sarah Curtis, Garrett Curtis, Jennie Layton, and Elisha J. Curtis.


The Shrewsbury Quaker Meeting Records show that the following three individuals, of Squan were buried at Squan: Ebenezer Curtis, who died Oct. IS30; Elizabeth Curtis, who died Mch. 22, 1837; and Mary Curtis, who died Aug. 1830.


The Quaker Records of the Springfield Meeting show that Elizabeth, daughter of Joseph Curtis, was married Nov. 18, 1767, to Jonathan Kirkbride, Ann and Joseph Curtis being present as witnesses.


Deborah Curtis, of Howell township, made her will in 1730, which was proved. Feb. 21, 1833. In it she left legacies to Anzoletta Herbert and to Deborah Ware, the daughter of John Ware.


James P. Curtis, of Wall township, in 1901, had wife Eliza; grand-children Calvin and Edith M. Curtis, the children of his deceased son John Curtis; and children, Asher Curtis; Vaiden Curtis; Deborah A. Birdsall; Eliza Birdsall; Emma Jane Benedict; and Ann Lavinia Vunck. He made his sons, Asher and Vaiden Curtis, his executors.


John Curtis, of Locust Point, had a son Walter Edward Curtis, born in 1859; died May 17, 1904, who married Lizzie, daughter of Frederick Schneider, of Navesink.

In Salem County, N. J., there were settled Samuel Curtis and his wife, Elizabeth, who were described as of Crewekern, Somerset County, clothier. They were deceased in 16SI.


The children of Samuel and Elizabeth Curtis, residing in Crewkerne Meeting were as follows:


Elizabeth Curtis, born 5 mo., 4, 1650. Samuel Curtis, born I mo., 13, 1651. Samuel Curtis,* born 2 mo., 22, 1652.


Joane Curtis, į born 3 mo., 8, 1655. Roger Curtis, born 3 mo., 13, 1657. John Curtis, born 12 mo., 7, 1659.

MONMOUTH COUNTY


JAMES DORSET came from Bermuda to New Jersey. He located in the vicinity of Middletown, where he was granted by the Proprietors, June 20, 1677, two hundred and two acres of land [elsewhere, May, 1677].


1676, November. He received an additional two hundred and forty acres, and finally, Mch. 26, 1690, one hundred acres, both in Middletown. He may have been rich in lands, but in purse he was poor.


In 1687, when called upon for the Quit rent of his two hundred and two acres, amounting to £8-8-4, he paid nothing and the tax collector was constrained to enter "Received Nothing he is poor." His joint properties, amounting to five hundred acres, lay about four miles west of Middletown, and two miles south east of Keyport.
