"James Dorset settled here 1676. Died 1720 and was buried here. His descendants occupied this farm to 1840. Elizabeth Dorset, sixth in descent and last of the name who resided on this property, died, in 1879, aged nearly 102 years, and requested this monument should be erected in memory of the Dorsets." Upon a large monument in the Dorset Burying Ground, where are to be found the stones of, S, and his wife; 9; 16 and his wife; 28; 35; 36 and his wife; 51 and 53.

THOMAS EATON, of Eatontown, may have been the same who took his oath, as Free- man, in Dover, Norfolk County, Mass., May 23, 1666. Wickes says that he came, first, to Mid- dietown and thence to Shrewsbury, in 16So, and that he was related to Theophilus and Samuel Eaton, of the New Haven Colony.


1684, Dec. 12. Thomas Eaton married Jerusha, daughter of Thomas and Jane (Paine) Mayhew, and widow of Joseph Wing, who was killed by lightning in 1679. He died, in Shrews- bury, 9 mo., 26, 1688.


1688, Nov. 11. Will of Thomas Eaton, of Shrewsbury; proved Dec. 13, 1688, mentioned: Wife, Jerusha, who is with child.

1635. Thomas Eaton was mentioned as a child emigrant in this year, and died, at Dedham, Mass., Sept. 10, 1649. He was the oldest son of John and Abigail Eaton, of Watertown, then of Dedham, Mass., and was one year old at the date of immigration, MIch. 3, 1635.

16SI-2, Feb. 9. ABIAH EDWARDS was one of the witnesses to, and appointed as an executor of, the will of Francis Masters.


1682, Mch. 31. Return of survey for one hundred and twenty seven acres of land, for Abija Edwards, upon Long Branch in the town of Shrewsbury, in right of Mrs. Sarah Reape.


1684, May 15. Sarah Reape, of Shrewsbury, widow, sole executrix of William Reape, formerly of Rhode Island, deceased, gave a deed to Abiah Edwards, shipwright, for her right, title and interest in two hundred and forty acres of land, which had been surveyed for Henry Green in two lots, one in Shrewsbury, the other, of seven acres, near Goose Neck. This last was probably salt meadow.


1688. He ran the sloop "Desire" between Shrewsbury and New York.


1691 and 1700. Abiah Edwards was a grand juror in Monmouth Co.

Mrs. Ann Marie Edwards, of Long Branch, died Mch. 1, 1907. aged 78 years. She was The mother of Blominfield Edwards and Mrs. Charles Reid of Long Branch, of Mrs. Drusilla Thompson of Glendola, and of Lewis Edwards of Lakewood.


1908, Apr. 28. Mrs. Elizabeth, the wife of James II. Edwards of Long Branch, died there on this date, in her 44th year.


From the occurrence of the name of Naomi in this family it would seem very probable that it belonged to the Monmouth Co. line, although settled at Cape May, N. J.
