linseed oil and stir in it pulverized charcoal to the consistency of paint. Put a coat of this over the timber and there is no man that will live to see it rotten.

Clothes Cleaning Fluid .- Make as follows: To two ounces of aqua ammonia add what Castile soap it will dissolve and four ounces soft water. To remove spots and clean coat collars, take a tooth brush, pour a little of the fluid on the spot and brush gently for one minute, sponge out fluid and press under cloth or canvass with hot iron. Dust will not gather in cloths as it does when gasoline is used. This preparation is said to be without an equal for the purpose.

Cider .- When the barrci of cider comes from the press have it put up on a block, with spigot In barrel. Tie a fine sait sack over the spigot, letting the same drop Into bunghole of a clean barrel. Secure from a drug store a 25-cent package of sulphide of lime, and empty this in the cider. In about a week open the spigot and ict the cider strain into a clean barrei. Put in cellar with spigot and pour in ten pounds of sugar. When the cider is "hard" enough to suit, buy a quart of cotton seed oil from drug store and pour in bunghole. This will not mix with the cider, but will spread over the surface, making an air tight covering which will prevent further fermentation. The cider will remain in that condition as long as any is left in the barrel.

clover after the same has been in the stack thirty days, and up to one year.

Making measurements of hay in stack, the following is hereby given as authentic: The width and length of the stack shall be measured, and the distance from the ground against one side of the stack to the ground against the other side of the stack, directly over and oppo- site, shall be taken in linear feet and inches, and then the width shall be subtracted from the measurement over the stack as above indicated, the result divided by two, and the result so ob- tained multiplied by the width, and the result thus obtained multiplied by the length, which will give the number of cubic feet contained in the stack, and the tonnage shall thereupon be determined by dividing the total number of cubic feet in the stack by the number of cubic feet allowed to the ton.

FOR FIGURING THE PRICE OF HAY OR COAL.

Point off three places from the right in num- ber of pounds and multiply by half the price per ton. Thus suppose you have 1890 pounds of coal or hay to sell at $4.50 per ton. Point off three places from the right and you have 1.890. Mul- tiply this by $2.25, one half the price per ton, and you have $4.25, the price of the coal or hay. This rule always holds good.

LEATHER WATERPROOFING.

Take equal parts of beeswax, tallow, rosin (rosin right from pine trees will do), and linseed oil, heat and stir until well mixed. Have shoes well warmed while applying, and rub in well. The grease from any fowl makes a nice oil for ordinary oiling of shoes.

TO REMOVE BLOOD STAINS.

Wet common lump starch and put on staln; let remain till perfectly dry and brush off; re- peat until the spot disappears.
