LOGAN.

This city, noted as the most beautiful in the State, is located on a fine plateau on the eastern side of Cache valley, al- most in the center between the northern and southern boundaries of Cache coun- ty, on the O S L R R, at an elevation of 4500 feet above sea level, and has a pop- ulation of over 6000 people. It is sur- rounded by 22 prosperous cities and vil- lages in the county, which contained more than 18,000 inhabitants when the census of 1890 was taken. Logan is the natural distributing center for these, as well as for a number of prosperous towns in Southern Idaho, which lie within the valley.

Cache county is known as the "Gran- ary of Utah," and well it deserves the title. The harvest of 1898 amounted to nearly 2,000,000 bushels of wheat, 125,- 000 bushels of oats, 15,000 bushels of barley 20,000 tons of lucern, 200,000 bushels of potatoes, 250,000 bushels of corn, besides thousands of bushels of fruits and tons of hay other than lu- cern. One creamery alone produced 350,- 000 pounds of cheese, 150,000 pounds of butter, requiring the milk of 1400 cows, amounting to 7,000,000 pounds, and there are eight creameries. Salt Lake comes to Cache valley to purchase its driving and draft horses. Cache county has 10,000 of them, besides 100,000 sheep and 10,000 hogs, and other agricultural resources too numerous to mention. As we have remarked, Logan is the dis- tributing center of the valley, there- fore shares in the general prosperity.

But aside from being the county seat, and the distributing center, Logan has many claims of her own. It is a healthy

city. Its air and water are pure, and while citizens of the capital suffer from sweltering heat, its evenings and nights are cool and invigorating. Protection from fire in the main part of town is afforded by a pressure of 140 pounds to the square inch. It has fine, broad shaded streets and tree-embowered homes. Its electric light system covers nearly the entire town, both as to street and private service.

Logan's manufacturing facilities have not yet been exploited to one-tenth part of their capacity. Every day thousands of horse-power runs to waste, but at the same time nowhere in the State is wa- ter or electric power so cheap. The same statement may be truthfully made as to the cost of living. The necessar- ies of life are so abundant and there is such sharp competition in the sale of its luxuries that the cost of living is re- duced to the minimum

Educationally, Logan leads the van. It has two of the foremost institutions of learning in the State. The Agricul- tural and Brigham Young Colleges, each of which has an annual attendance of 400 students, drawn from Canada, Mex- ico and all intermediate points. Besides these institutions there is the New Jer- sey-Presbyterian Academy, which has a thorough high school course. Then, the common, district schools of Logan en- joy such a reputation that people within a raidus of 100 miles seek the advan- tages of their curriculum.

As a business proposition Logan's mer- chants receive all the credit they wish, because they are always prepared to meet their obligations.

Then, Logan is the center of great mining possibilities, which are being de- veloped as rapidly as the circumstances of their owners will permit.

At present, judged from the possibili-
