ern Pacific, Union Pacific, Oregon Short | tional Bank, Ogden State Bank Line and Rio Grande Western Railways, which bind Ogden to the markets of the nation and the world.
Ogden has one of the best public school systems west of the Missouri river, as well as private schools. The Sacred Heart Academy, located on Twenty- fifth Street, is a fine structure and well equipped for properly caring for their pupils. This school is directed by some of the most competent and experienced teachers of the Order of The Holy Cross. The State Industrial School and the School for the Deaf, Dumb and Blind, are also located at Ogden, each having a competent corps of teachers and instruc- tors.
Ogden is well supplied with churches of all denominations, consisting of the Mormon, Episcopal, Catholic, Methodist, Congregational, Baptist, Presbyterian, Christian, Swedish Lutheran and Chris- tian Science. The Catholics are now erecting a new church at a cost of $50,000, which will make, when com- pleted, a magnificent church.
Ogden has a first-class electric street railway system and water works. The supply for the latter is taken from Og- den river in Ogden canyon and is always fresh, clear and cold, direct from the melting snow of the mountains. The average pressure maintained is 125 pounds.
About nine miles north of Ogden are the celebrated Hot Springs, rising out of the base of the Wasatch mountains. The waters posses remedial virtues of the highest order and have effected phenom- enal cures.
The five banks in Ogden, in their com- bined capital stock and surplus, repre- sent over a million of dollars. They con- sist of the First National Bank, the Utah National Bank, Commercial Na-
and Utalı Loan & Trust Co.'s Bank.
The sugar factory, completed over a ' year ago, is manufacturing an excellent quality of sugar and employing a large force at their factory.
The Deseret and Western Union Tele- graph Companies and the Wells, Fargo, Pacific and Denver & Rio Grande Ex- press Companies all have offices and are operating in Ogden.
The present postmaster is Mr. Charles Meighan.
The Fire Department in Ogden is a paid department and is not excelled, if equalled, in the West. They employ fourteen men and their equipment con- sists of one Champion Chemical Engine, 120 gallons; one Grand Rapids hose wagon, carrying 1000 feet of hose; one Arrow Aerial truck, 75 feet ladder; one Chief's wagon; one La France Fire En- gine; one hose wagon in reserve; seven horses. The station is equipped withı Hale swinging harness.
The city government consists of a Mayor and ten City Councilmen. The United States and the Second Judicial District Courts are held in Ogden. The Ogden Standard (Republican) is pub- lished daily and weekly, and the Utah State Journal, the Utah Home and the Hotel. Reporter are published weekly. The Free Public Library is thrown open daily for its patrons and is kept con- stantly supplied with the latest publica- tions.
Ogden has a number of manufacturing industries and they are rapidly increas- ing, among some of the most important being the Ogden Woolen Mills, where are made some of the finest woolen blankets used in the West. The Utah Canning Factory, with a capacity of 4000 cases daily, employs about 250 men and wo- men and can tomatoes exclusively. The

The Ogden Pressed Brick & Tile Co. manufacture pressed brick, tile, fire brick, etc. The pressed brick from these yards took the prize at the World's Fair for the best grade of pressed brick. The Broom Factory, Pickle Works, and a number of other factories are running constantly to their full capacity and cannot sup- ply the demand.
The summer resorts and parks, consist- ing of Liberty and Lester Parks and Glenwood resort, are well patronized during the summer months.
