The Chesapeake & Ohio Ry and the Ohio River division of the B & O R R pass through the city and connect with the great trunk line of the N & W Ry at Kenova, 8 miles below. Pittsburg and Cincinnati river packets stop daily, while a great river traffic is carried on by local boats. The shops of the C & O Ry and the Amer- ican Car & Foundry Co, employing in the aggregate more than 3,000 men, are located here. Among other indus- tries are numerous planing mills, foundries, excelsior, furniture. plaster and ice factories, also the largest copying house, frame and handle fac- tories in the country. Huntington is the northern terminus of the Camden Inter-State Electric Ry, one of the finest and best equipped roads of mod- ern times. The city is well laid out, with wide and well paved streets, and its public and private buildings much above the average.
