The gathering of Obituaries in book form was compiled throught the efforts of the Clan Diggers Genealogical Society of the Kern River Valley, with the permission of the publishers of the 'Kern Valley Sun' newspaper. Mamie F. Hendricks
Memorial services were held Thursday, November 17, 1994 at the Library in Lake Isabella for Mamic F. Hendricks of Lake Isabella. Mamie was born August 17, 1913 in St. Joseph, Missouri and passed away November 9, 1994 in Mt. Mesa.
Mamie was married to Steve Hendricks in 1932 and had 49 years together until he passed away in 1981. She was a clerk at the U.S. Post Office in San Jose for 20 years before retiring in 1978. Mamie was a member of the NARF, Senior Nutrition, the Clan Diggers and the NSDAR.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Alice and Cecil Dale of Lake Isabella; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law John and Judy Hendricks of Mt View, Calif .; also many neices and nephews and grand neices and grand nephews. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary
NSDAR The Kawaiisu chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution held a memorial service for Mamie Hendricks on Nov 17 at the Library in Lake Isabella. The service was presented by Marian Adkins, Regent. Attending the service were her sister, Alice and Cecil Dale of Lake Isabella and family, brother-in-law John and Marie Hendricks of Mt. View, Calif., and family, and three neices, Mamme and Mike Markieviez of Albuquerque, N.M. and family, Janet and Robert Gibson of San Jose and family, and Cherrie Rubnankara and son of Sacramento. Also present were many friends and members of the NARF, Clan Diggers, NSDAR, and Senior Nutrition. Mamie was a charter member of the Senior Nutrition organization. Nadelle Getting announced that Mamie's name would be placed on a plaque at the Senior Center in Lake Isabella. Mamie was an active and faithful member of our chapter. The offices she held in four years as a member were Chaplain, Registrar, Lineage Research, Membership and press book chairman. During the memorial service red, white, and blue carnations were placed by our members. The hall was decorated in red, white, and blue. Refreshments were served by Phyllis Piper and Marge Laskowski.

GERALD FAIRFIELD
Services were held in the Turner Funeral Home Chapel in Wofford Heights on Friday, De- cember 27th at 2 p.m. for Ger- ald Elmore Fairfield, 66, of Bod- fish.
Born in Waverly, Iowa on July 31, 1902, Fairfield was a retired security policeman employed by the Aerojet Corporation. He had lived in the state for the past 49 years.
He is survived by his widow Sally, and a daughter, Mrs. A. G. Owens. of Reseda and two grandchildren, Glenn and Shar- on Owens.
Rev. Loren Drake officiated at the service, interment was in the Kern Valley District Cem- etery.
KYLE WELCH
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Decem- ber 28th at the Kern Valley Dis- trict Cemetery for Kyle Thom- as Welch, 67, of Wofford Heights, who died in the Kern Valley Hospital.
A native of Bluefield, West Virginia, Welch was retired from the U. S. Navy and lived in California for the past 21 years.
His survivors include his wife, Gladys and a son Richard of Tehachapi and a daughter, Mrs. Lyndell Greene of La Mirada.
He is also survived by four grandchildren and a brother, Walter of Huntington, West Virginia.

A native of Arkansas born on March 31, 1898, Harris had liv- ed in California for the past 42 years. He was retired froro the Los Angeles School System and had lived in the area for the past five years.
He leaves his widow, Minnie, and a daughter, Mrs. Loren Wil- son of Pacoima. He is also Sur- vived by three grandchildren, Tom, Susie, and Cindy Wilson.

In his earlier years, Ross, a self-taught musician, helped pro- vide the music for the old-time dances in the valley, participat- ed in Chamber of Commerce work and community projects and was especially active in youth programs.
Ross is survived by his wife Edith who is confined to a con- valescent hospital in Pasadena, two daughters, Bunny Tibbetts of Lake Isabella and Dorothy Douglas of Houston, Texas, three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted by Rev. Dale Brown and held at 2 p.m. today, Thurs- day, January 16, in t'e old see- tion of the Kern River Valley District Cemetery under the di- rection of Turner Funeral Home.

Services were held on Tues- day. January 14.h. in the Hill- (rest Memorial Chapel in Bak- ursfield for Nona E. Naffziger. 80. of Lake Isabella. Mrs. Naff- 2 gor died in the Parkview Jul- Convalescent Hospital in Bakersfield where she had been confined for several years.
She was born in Armington, Illinois on November 12, 1881 and is survived by a son, Charles, who is Field Director with the American Red Cross in Korea and is unable to attend the funeral. She is also survived by a daughter. Betty W. Snyder of Lake lsabella and a grand- daughter, Mrs. Diane Drinkwine.
Mrs. Naffziger was a member of the Christian Church in Min- ier, Ill. Rev. Dale Brown offic- ated and pallbearers included: James W. Ash, Rex Hart, Char- les Maggs, Sid Van Laar, Bert Clements and Al Goodman.

MONTA R. BENNETT
Masonic rites were held on January 27, at the Kern Valley District Cemetery for Monta Ream Bennett, 73 of Lampson's Mobile Village in Lake Isabella who died in the Kern Valley Hospital on January 25.
Born on January 21, 1896 in Queen City, Missouri; Bennett was retired from the Gage Building and Supply in Los An- geles where he was manager. He had lived in the area for the past four years and in the state for 46 years.
His survivors include his wid- ow, Clare and a daughter, Al- vare Richardson of Santa Bar- bara and a grandson, Timothy.
Rev. Bryan Wilber officiated at the services. Turner Funcral Home was in charge of the ar- rangements, and Masonic rites were conducted by Dr. Charles Ackerman and Ernest Mitchell.

EVELYN MORTON
Funeral services were held on Fehruary 3, at the Community Methodist Church in Kernville, for Evelyn Gertrude Morton, 66, who died in the Kern Valley Hospital on January 30.
A resident in the area for the last seven years, Mrs. Morton and her husband Elton, were residents of the Sierra Trailer Lodge. A native of Gysum, Col- orado, she had lived in Califor- nia for the past 45 years.

She is survived by her hus- band, Elton and two daughters, Elcen E. Lintz of Santa Monica, and Elsie E. Davis of Cannga Park. She also leaves nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. and a brother, Wilham G Thompson of Bell.
Rev. Loren Drake officiated at the services. Graveside ser- vices were conducted by the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Turner Funeral Home was'in charge of the arrangements.

MARY WRIGHT
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 8th, at the Highland Chapel in Lake Isa- bella, for Mary Gertrude Wright, 65, of Bodfish, who died on February 5th.
Mrs. Wright had lived in the area since 1964 and was an ac- tive member of the 55-plus club. Born in Fulton, New York on March 23, 1903, she had been a resident of California for 10 years.
Mrs. Wright is survived by her daughter, Mrs. William . Whalen of Bodfish and a grand- son, Brian. She also leaves a brother; Cecil Herner of Utica, New York. Rev. Bryan Wilber officiated at the services and interment followed at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Hollywood. Turner Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements

GEORGE MCCREADY
Masonic rates were held on February ITth at Turner Funer- al Home, for George Miller Mc- Cready, 73, a resident of Sierra Trailer Fark in Kernville who died on February 13.
A native son of Uba City. Mc- Cready was born on February 3, 1696 and hai hved in California all his life. lle was a retired Postal Department employee, having worked in the Napa Post Office for 30 years.
He and his widow Ida Lee liv- ed in the area for the past two years. He is also survived by a step daughter, Mrs. Lois Rach- ford of Anchorage, Alaska.
AleCready was a member of the KRV Elks Lodge 2358, a WW I veteran and a member of the Masons for the past 50 years. He was also a member of the Shriners. Interment was in the Kern Valley District Cemetery.
LEO DICKTANIS
Graveside services were held at the Kern River Valley Dis- trict Cemetery on February 18, for Leo Dicktanis, 55, of Wof- ford Heights, who died on Feb- ruary 5, after a short illness.
Dicktanis was a native of Pennsylvania and lived in the area for the past 10 years. He was last employed by Duffy's Tavern as a caretaker. He leaves a sister, living in Glen- dale.

Dr. Gunderson Services Held
Services were held on Wed- nesday, February 19, for Dr. Clayton B. Gunderson of Bakers- field, who died in his home on Sunday, February 16. Dr. Gun- derson retained a part-time practice in the area for many years and was associated with Dr. Paul Wright in Kernville. Until his death, he was an asso- ciate of Dr. Robert Wolney in Wofford Heights.
Dr. Gunderson had practiced medicine for 34 years and. had. lived in Bakersfield for 17 years. He served in the U.S. Navy dur- ing World War II and held the rank of Lt. Commander.
He is survived by his widow, Georgla: a son, Tim; and a daughter, Gigi, All of Country Club Drive in Bakersfield. He also leaves his father, Carl Gun- derson of Everett, Washington; sisters .. Mrs. Olive Halverson of Seattle, Washington and Mrs .; Esther Polson of Everett, Wash- I ington and a brother, Dr. Har- old Gunderson of Everett, Wash.

Services will be conducted in the Greenlawn Memorial Chap- el Saturday, March 8 at 12.30 p.m. for Clarence Philip Bush- nell, 71, Lake Isabella, who died February 26 in the Kern Valley Hospital, Lake Isabella. Bishop Robert Hemingway, Church of Jesus Christ, Latter Day Saints. Sixth Ward, will officiate and interment will follow in the Lakeside Section of Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Bushnell was a native of Lari- mer, Colorado, and had resided in California 35 years and Kern
County 28 years. He was last employed as repairman at the Monolith Portland Cement Plant where he had worked for 18 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army, World War One.
Survivors include six daugh- ters, Betty Williamson of Eur- eka; Peggy Richardson and Theda Helm, both of Bakers- field; Esther Wyckoff of Visalia, Kathy Blair of Long Beach, and Rowene Doolittle of Oregon; Three sons, Bill Bushnell of Te- hachapi; Dick Bushnell of Reno, Nevada; and Duane Bushnell of Fort Collins, Colorado are also survivors. A brother, Dale Bush- nel! of Nebraska; two sisters, Ruth Kimher and Esther Alex- ander. both of Colorado: 23 grandchildren and great grand- children are included. Pallbear- ers will be Richard Williamson, Kenneth Richardson, Lloyd Wy- ckoff, Marshall Helm, Robert Blair and Larry Tiller.

Born in Sahna, Utah on Janu- ary 21, 1898, Mrs. Smith and her band had been married for ars. She had been an active Vouiber of the Latter Day Gts Church and a member of ine Ladies Auxiliary of World War I veterans. The couple had lived in Kernville for the past tight years.
She 's survived by her hus- band, Gilber: C. of Durwood Street in Kemville and two sons, Jay M. Smith of El Segundo; Clifton Smith of Lyon, Oregon; and two daughters, Mrs. Mary Kalkman of St. Cloud, Minn .; and Mrs. Darlene Brokaw of La- guna Beach. She also leaves 14 grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.

Services were conducted at the Hillcrest Mortuary Chapel. Wednesday, March 12, at 2 p.m. for Harold M. Wehunt, 52, of 1754 Curran Street, Lake Isa- bella, who died March & in his home. Arthur Barnes, Worshipful Master and John F. Carl, Chap- lain, of the Caledonia Lodge No. 486, officiated a: the chapel ser- vice.
Wehunt was born in Cleveland. Tennessee, and had moved to California in 1949. He had resid- Ed in Montrose, California prior to his residence in Lake Isabella for the past year. He was an employee of the Southern Pa- cific Railroad for the past 35 years and was a member of the Tujunga Lodge No. 592, F.&A.M.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Barbara Wehunt of Lake Isabella; son, Ronald Wehunt of Lake Isabella; mother, Mac Lilly of Florida, Interment was in Parkview Lawn of Hillcrest . Memorial Park, Bakersfield.

AARON FORD
Services were held at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Bakersfield on March 5, for Aaron Ford, 68. of Kerrivale; who died on March 2, at the Kern Valley Hospital.
Born in Scotland on March 17. 1900. Ford had been a self en- ployed restauranteur for 15 years prior to his moving to Kernvale in 1952.
Married for almost 49 years; he leaves his widow. Evangeline and three daughters - Mrs. Betty Smith of Bakersfield, Mrs. Joyce Minchew of Lake Isabella and Mrs. Evangeline Myers of Lancaster. He also leaves 11 grandcluldren and four great- grandchildren. He leaves a sis- tcr, Mrs. Mary Topeff of Ft. Lauderdale. Florida.
Ford was a member of the Presbyterian church in Bell- Nower and a member of the Kern River Valley Elks Lodge No. 2358.

LEO SMITH
Services were held on March 18 at the Turner Funeral Home on Wofford Heights for Leo Ed- mond Smith. 61 of Kernvale, who died in the Kern Valley Hos- pital on March 14.
Smith was a retired supervisor of overhaul compressors for the Garrett Corporation prior to his retirement 212 years ago. A na- tive of Kansas, Smith had lived in California for 34 years.
He is survived by his widow, Elsie E .: two sons, Ramon Smith of Saugus and Airman 1st Class Robert Smith, starioned at Norton AFB: a daughter, Chri- lee Pinney of Los Angeles and six grandchildren; also a sister, Mrs. Lyle Read of Worland Wyoming.
Smith was a member of the Firts Baptist Church in Lake Isabella. Rev. Dale Brown offic- iated at the services. Interment followed a: the Inglewood Park Cemetery in Inglewood.

FRED H. CAMPBELL
Graveside services were con ducted a: the Kern River Valley Distric: Cemetery by the Veter- ans of Foreign Wars Pos: 7665 on March 26, for Fred Hernry Campbell. 80, of M :. Mesa who died on March 21, at the Kern Valley Hospital.
Born on March 4. 1859 in Min- nesota, Campbell was retired from the forest service. Camp- bell lived in the area for the past 18 years and in the state 60 years. There are no known sur vivors.
Turner Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

REX MYERS .
Graveside services were said on April 12, at 'Memory Gardens ', in Brea, by' the Buena Park B.P.O.E. for Kex Norman My- ers, 55, of Kersiville.
Rex and his wife, Mary, bought the Tartle Tale dress shop in Kemville on March 1, 1968; she operated the shop un- til Rex joined her .in July, after his retirement as Supervisor Productal Products in Santa F Springs.
Born in El Centro, on April 23. 1914. he had been a Califor- nia resident all of his life. The couple built a home in Lake Isa- bella several years ago, and had planned on moving to the area after his retirement.
Rex was a member of the Whittier Elks Lodge and a char- ter member of the Buena Park Lodge. He was also a member of, the Kern River Valley Elks Lodge, having demitted to the lodge, one week prior to his death.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mary; two sons, Dan- ny of Monterey and Donald of Anaheini. He aiso - leaves six grandchildren, a sister in Ore- gon and a brother in San Diego.
ALFRED LUXTON
Graveside services were held at the Kern River Valley District ':Cemetery on April 4. for Alfred G. Luxton, 78, of Kernville, who died on April & at the Kern Val- ley Hospital.
Luxton was born on August 9, 1890. in Demming, New Mexico, and lived in California for the past 45 years and ju the area for nine years. He is survived by his wife, Mary and a son. Dean Luxton of Newport Beach; a daughter, Dorothy Telford. of Long Beach; five grandchildren and five great.grandchildren.

Rosary was said at the Dough- ty Calhoun O'Meara chapel in Bakersfield on Sunday, April 13. for Julia Stone, 49, of Onyx, who died on April 10, at the Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield.
A native of Onyx. Mrs. Stone had lived in the Kem Valley all her life.
Mrs. Stone is survived by her husband, Albert and her par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. Willy An- dreas. She also leaves four sons,

Graveside services were held Wednesday, May 7 at 2 p.m. at the Kern Valley District Ceme. tery for Willard Walter Peter- son, 64. of Lakeland Estates in Lake Isabella, who died at the Kern Valley Hospital on Mon- cay. May 5.
Peterson and his wife, Margar- e. lived in the arca for the past five years. He was employ- ed as a butcher at the Wofford Heights Market. Born on Novem- ter 20, 1904 in Minnesota, Peter- son had lived in California for the past 40 years.
He is survived by his widow. Margaret; his mother, Mrs. Amanda Peterson of Minnesota; two sisters, Ethel Storm and Mrs. John Borander: a brother, Belden Peterson, all of Minne- cota.
Turner Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Services Friday for Sid Van Laar
Sidney Van Laar. a well known Valley resident, passed away Monday evening, May 5, at Mercy Hospital in Bakers- field. He and his wife, Bernice, had been residents of the Valley about five years.
Sid, as he was called by his many friends, was the co-found- er of Isabella Ready-Mix (now Advance Concrete).
.He was born on June 23. 1917 in Pipestone, Minnesota. He was also a veteran, having served his country during World War II. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Lake Isabella.
The arrangements are being handled by Hillcrest Mortuary in Bakersfield, services will be held in the First Baptist Church of Lake Isabella, Reverend Dale Brown, officiating, Friday, May 9. at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow in the Kern River Valley District Cemetery.
A Memorial Fund has been started and anyone wishing to contribute to it in lieu of flow- ers please send to Rev. Brown so designating.
He is survived by his wife Ber- nice and one son, Allan, both of Lake Isabella; two grandchild- ren, and numerous brothers and sisters.

PAUL RHOADS
Services were held on Mon- day, May 19, at the Kernvilie Methodist Church in Kernville. for Paul Clark Rhoads, 66, of Weldon who died at the Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield on Fri- day, May 16.
Paul and his wife Virginia built Paul's Place in Weldon in 1941 and have operated the busi- ness since that time. A valley resident for 46 years, Rhoads was born in Coon Rapids, Iowa, on December 6, 1902 He was a member of the Weldon Methodist Church in Weldon. a member of the Lake Isabella Chamber of Commerce, Kern Valley Fish and Game Association, the Post Masters Associanon and a mem-
ber of the Kern County Employ- ees Association.
He leaves his widow, Virginia, sons, Kenneth H. Rhoads of Bakersfield; Robert Clark Rhoads of Bell; and a daughter. Mrs Pauline V. Stewart of Wel- don. He is also survived by seven grandchildren,, two broth- ers and six sisters.
Interment followed in the Kern River Valley District Cemetery. Services were conducted by Rev. Bryan Wilber of the Weldon Methodist Church.

Services were held on Mon- day, May 26. at the Highland Methodist Chapel in Lake Isa- bella, for Loraine C. Clark, 69, of Squirrel Valley who died on May 23, at the Kern Valley Hos- pital.
Bom in Lockport, New York on May 28, 1899, Mrs. Clark and her husband, Orho, had lived in the area for the past 10 years. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Amer- ican Legion.
She is survived by her hus- hand and a son. Edward A. John- son of San Francisco: 1W 0 daughters, Anne Forester of Santa Barbara and Alice Coch- rane of Kentfield. Calif .; and 15 grandchildren and two sisters. Mary Hool of San Rafael and Ethene Pennypacker of Santa Monica. She is also survived by three step-children, Mary John- son of San Rafael and Jean Dunlap of Pacific Palisades and Robert Clark of Beverly Hills
Rev Brvan Wilber officiated at the services and interment was in the Kern River Valley District Cemetery.

Services will be held on Thurs- day. May 29, at the First Bap- 1.ist Church in Lake Isabella for Mrs Maude Carter, 74, of Steen- son Road. Kernvale, who died on May 27. at the Kern Valley Hospital. Mrs. Carter was the widow of the late William G. Carter She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lake Isabella and a member of the Kern Valley Hospital Auxiliary.
She was born in Gentry Coun- ry. Missouri, on September 1. 1894, and moved to the area four years ago from Hemet.
She is survived by a daughter. Mrs. Charles Lampson. Lake Isabella. sisters. Beatrice Beach, Norfolk. Va., Genevieve Floyd, Albany, Mo .; brothers, Orville Guess. Oklahoma City, Okla .: and John Guess of Gardena, Ca. She also leaves a grandaugther, Sharon Lampson and a grand- son. Ron Lampson and three great-grandchildren.
Interment will be in Albany, Mn.
