Pearl Presley, 73, Isabella, Passes Away
Mrs Pearl Presley. 73. Yan- kte Canyon Rd., Lake Isabella wed at Kern Valley Hospital Sat urdav (June 15.)
Giraveside services were held at Kern River Valley District Cemetery yesterday with Tom Waggoner, assistant pastor of the Central Seventh-day Adven- tist Church of Bakersfield, offic- aring.
Mrs. Presley had resided in the Kern Valley 12 years and was employed by the Houston- Fearless Corp., Santa Monica, before moving here. She was born in Missouri Valley, Ia. on Jan. 7. 1837.
She is survived by her hus- band, Charles, two sons, Charles Jr., of La Mirada and Robert of Lomita; a daughter, Doris Mickey of Lakewood; three sis- ters, Ruby Thorpe of Simi, Ruth Waphe of Glendale and Inez Von Hakc of Brentwood; three broth- ers. Paso Robles Auto Crash Kills Three
The son-in-law and two grand daughters of Vernie Banyard, Kernvale, were killed Monday (June 15) in an auto crash near Paso Robies.
The dead are Arthur Myers, 24. and his two daughters, Don. na. six, and Diane, one, all of Placerville. Mrs. Myers is in critical condition with massive lacerations but is expected to recover. A third daughter. Deb- ra three, was not hurt.
The Myers family had visited Banvard .n Kernvale for three weeks and wert en route to visit Xvers' parents in Grover City when the tragedy occured.
Services will be held at 10:30 וה .. Saturday in Placerville.

Graveside services were held June 17 at Mt. View Cemetery, Pasadena, foi Mrs. Edith Marie Ross, 74, a former Bodfish resi- dent and the mother of Mrs. Norman Tibbetts of Lake Isabel- la. She was the wife of the late John C. Ross.
She was a native of Sweden, where she was born March 10, 1896. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1914 and spent 50 years as a Swedish cook in the Pasadena arca.
Mrs. Ross succumbed June 14 in a Pasadena convalescent hos- pital, where she had been a patient the past 31g vears.

Tom Rceu Arms, 66, of 348 Burlando Rd., Kernville, died June 22 at his home.
Services were conducted Tues- day (June 30) at the Kern River Valley District Cemetery by VFW Post 7665, their Ladies' Auxiliary and World War I Bar- racks 1841. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He was a candy maker for Bishop's Candy Co., Los Angeles, before his retirement.
Arms was born in Vernon, Ky., on Dec. 8. 1906, and had lived in the county Light years and in California 25 years.
He is survived by his wife, Maric.

Services were held Monday (June 29) for Everett A. Throop, 64, of 2301 Angler Ave., Kern- vale, Hillcrest Mortuary Chapel, Bakersfield. He died June 25 at the Kern Valley Hos- pital.
Throop had lived in the Kern Valley for the past three years and was born in Los Angeles.
He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Kern- vale, and Rev. William A. Kell- rer, pastor, officiated at the ser- vices. Interment was at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Bakersfield.

Westley H. Rhodehamel, 72, Kern Valley Pioneer, Dies
Westley H. Rhodehamel, 72, Las Vegas, a member of one of the Kern Valley's earliest pio- neer families, died in Boulder City. Nov., Hospital Monday (July 6.) He was stricken about a month ago by a heart attack from which he never recovered.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today (July 9) at Highland Chap- el United Methodist Church, Lake Isabella, with interment ment following at the Kern River Valley District Cemetery. Rev. Williard Vanfossen, new pastor of the Community United Meth- odist Church of Kernville, will officiate.
His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ar- thur A. Rhodehamel, first settled in Vaughn (original name for the community of Bodfish) in 1876. The elder Rhodchamel worked for A. Brown & Co. and also was
a gold prospector and miner in the Piute Mountains district.
Westley Rhodehamel was born in Vaughn (after his mother's family name) on Dec. 20, 1897. As a young man he was a forest ranger assigned to the Havilah district of the Sequoia National Forest. Later he worked for Southern California Edison at the Borel KR-3, the Three Rivers and the Boulder City-Iloover Dam power plants. He retired from the company after 35 years employment in 1963.
The Rhodehamels were plan- ning to move back to Bodfish soon. They had lived in Las Ve- gas and Boulder City the past 24 years.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie; a son, Frank Rhodehamel of Fresno; two daughters, Jean Rhodehamel of Las Vegas and Evelyn Ward of Washington, D.C .; a sister, Mrs. Daisy Old- field of Bodfish; and a half-sis- ter, Mrs. Lorraine Hoover of Livermore.
Arrangements were by Valley Mortuary, Lake Isabella.

Lloyd Dayley, 54, Mt. Mesa, Dies at Home
Lloyd William Dayley, 54, of 77 Mobile Home Park, Mountain Mesa, died July 7 at his home. ause of death, believed to have een a heart attack, was to be determined in Bakersfield by the county coroner.
His wife, Lona, died about two weeks ago of cancer in a Bak- ersfield hospital.
Services were held in Declo Cemetery, Declo, Idaho. He was a native of Idaho and had lived in Kern County for the past five years.
He was last employed by Big Bear Timber Co.

Headon Crash Kills Debra Coleman, 16
A Kernvale girl and a Hunting- ton Park man were killed and two Incal bnys and a San Ber- nardino girl injured in a violent headon smashup Friday night (July 17) on Hwy. 178 cast nf Bakersfield.
Killed was pretty Debra Jean Coleman, 16, of Kernvale. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanford C. Coleman and would have been a KVHS junior this fall. She was a queen can- didate for the Kern Valley Round-Up last Spring until ill health forced her out of the running.
Still in critical condition at Bakersfield's Kern General Ins- pital is Corwin Wade Thomasy, 16, of Lake Isabella, driver of the pickup in which the local young people were riding.
Walter Pawling, 19, Kernville, and Carolyn Stewart, 16. San Bernardino, who were riding in the bed of the Thomasy pickup are in satisfactory condition at the same hospital.
Also killed in the crash was Edd Louis Shepherd, 22, Hunt- ington Park, driver of the other car. Henry James Gibson, 17, Maywood, accompanying Shep- derd. was released after treat- went from the hospital.
The CHP said Shepherd had passed an eastbound pickup at high speed when his car struck Thomasy's westbound pickup. Both vehicles were demolished and Kern County firemen were forced to use a power saw to re- nove Miss Coleman's body from the crushed pickup cab.
The pickup Shepherd had just missed was struck by debris from the crash. Driver of the second pickup. Donovan Gate Rockhill. 53. and his passenger, Carlora Mize, 14, both of Bakers- field, were slightly injured but did not require medical treal- wment.

Zuck was born Sept. 11, 189i. in Columbus, Kans,, and movedi to Havilah at the age of 19. I'm. his early years he worked on ranches in the South Fork and later in gold mines in. Havilaiv and other areas of California .. Arizona, Nevada, Oregon a nd' Washington.
He is a World War I vereran and bad resided in Bodfish the past 30 years.
He is survived by two sisters .. Edith Tibbetts of Lake Isabella and Lola Hilton of Victorville: four nephews, Louis and Norman Tibbetts of Lake Isabella, Arthur Allen of. Long Beach and Albert Zuck of Arizona: a niece Sandra Zuck of Arizona and an aunt, Evalena Moore of Bodfislı.

Harry Mallory of Cane Brake Passes at 78
Harry L. Mallory, one of the South Fork's best known resi- dents, died Friday (July 24) in Kern Valley Hospital. He was 78.
He founded the unique Mallory Ranch east of Cane Brake in the early forties and gathered there over the years a remarkable assemblage of structures, equip- ment, furnishings and designs skillfully fashioned "in-the- round."
Buildings, rooms, a fireplace, mattresses, furniture and land- scaping were crafted in the cir- cular theme.
He was regarded as an incom- parable welder. He sold or hand- crafted hundreds of objects of used or new metal.
Mr. Mallory first came to Cal- ifornia in 1934. He was born in Ashland, Nebr.
His services were held Tues- day (July 28) at Hillcrest Chapel, Bakersfield, with interment fol- lowing in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Rev. Bryan Wilber of the Weldon Community Methodist Church officiated.
He is survived by his wife, Frances; two sons, Bud and Ray, both of Onyx; a sister, Mrs. May Teadke of Oregon; and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers at the services were Art Knoy, George Maga- rell, Jack Henslee, Jim Fair, Orian Campbell & Gene Young.

Almer L. "Burt" Deal, $5. of Hatton Ave., Lake Isabella, and 3816 Pleasure Way, Montrose, died last week at the Glendale Adventist Hospital.

Stroke Takes R. L. Cowsert, Wofford Hts.
Robert L. Cowsert, 62, died Tuesday (Sup :. 1) of a cerebral stroke at his home, 501 Panor- ama, Wofford Heights.
Before his retirement here a year ago he was foreman of the plumbing department of the Mc- Donnel-Douglas plant, Santa Monica. He was an active men- ber of the Douglas Rod & Gun Club.
Services will be held at the graveside at 2 p.m. Friday (Sept. 4) at the Kern Valley District Cemetery. Rev. Willard Vanfossen the Community United Methodist Church of Kernville will officiate.
Cowsert was born in Hunting- ton Beach Feb. 9, 1908.
He is survived by his wife, Claire; three sons, Larry of Inglewood, Donald of Hawaii and Allen of the U. S. Coast Guard at Bodago Bay; one daughter, Clarice Haase of Hawthorne; and four sisters. Services for Emil Dumke, 81, Kernville
Services were held yesterday (Sept. 9) for Emil William Dumke, SI, well known Kernville resident who died here Friday. He resided at 400 Sirretta Dr.
Last rites were performed at Greenlawn Chapel, Bakersfield, by members of the International Order of Oddfellows, Lodge 251, Kernville. Interment followed at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Dumke was horn in Tillida, Wisc., on Oct. 4, 1888, and mov- ed to California in 1913. He first worked in the Kern County oil fields and later was park super- visor at Greenhorn Mountain for 27 years. He retired in 1958.
He was a member of the Odd- fellows for 48 years and went thru the lodge's order of chairs twice. He also is a member of the Methodist Church of Delano.
Survivors include his wife, Georgia; a sister, Irma Dumke, and a brother, Leon, both of Tillida, two daughters, Mrs. Hazel Norfolk and Mrs Helen Patapoff, both of Fullerton; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren

Hubert Oren Hurd, 69, of 272 Sirretta Dr., Kernville, died Aug. 31 of a heart ailment in a Santa Monica convalescent hospital.
Services were held Sept. 3 at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills. Rev. John Kerr of (San Fernan- do) Valley Baptist Church offic- iated.
He moved to the Kern Valley on his retirement in 1963. Until then he was an owner of Trio Productions, a north Hollywood machine shop.
Hurd was born in Tacoma, Wash., April 6, 1901, and moved in 1909 to Beloit, Wisc., where he lived until coming to Cali- formia in 1939
He is survived by his wife. "Arric;" a daughter, Carol Ro- berts of Monrovia, two brothers, Dee Hurd of Minnesota and John Earl Hurd of Illinois; a sister, Adell Ballard of Illinois; two grand children, Jacqueline Rol- lins of Kernville and Kimberly Roberts of Monrovia.
Pall bearers were Geoffrey Lawcs, Carl Allred, Calvin Rob- erts, W. T. Claunch, Frank Os- terman and Earl Reams.

Henry Homilton, Former Santa Fe Railroader, Dies
Services for Henry Outo Ham- ilton 63. Lake Isabella, werc held Saturday (Sept 5) at Greenlawn Chapel, Bakersfield. He died here Sept. 3. Rev. Bud Frye of Grace Baptist Church, Bakersfield, officiated, and Ma- sonic services were arranged by Bakersfield Lodge 224.
Masonic graveside services also were planned in Wellington, Kans., Cemetery, where Hamil- ton was a native and a member of the Wellington Masonic Lodge 150, F&AM.
Survivors include his wife. Nellie: four sons, Robert of Lake Isabella. Marvin and Don of San Jose and Jack of Taft: two daughters, Elaine Howor of Glennville and Karen Murillo of Bakersfield, a brother. James V. of Washington: 15 grandchildren, and a great grandchild.

Mrs. Maude Lodena Jackson, 81, mother of Mrs. Salena Mc- Donald, Wofford Heights, died Sept. 2 in a Chowchilla hospital. Services were held Saturday (Sept. 5) in Chowchilla. Also among her survivors is a grand ·daughter. Mrs. Lee Christopher, Wofford Heights.

William Ted Link, 64. retired operator of the lake Isabella dam for the Corps of Engineers, died Sept. 9 at the Kern Valley Hospital. He resided ar 125 Lake- view Dr., Wofford Heights
Services were held Saturday (Scpt. 12) at the Valley Mortu- ary Chapel. Lake Isabella, with interment following at the Kern Valley District Cemetery. Ma- sonic rites were conducted with Charles Ackerman officiating.
Link was born in Pendleton, S.C., on Jan. 29, 1906.
He is survived by his wife. Nellie: a son, Boyre 1. lunk of Stockton: a brother. C.el Link of Colusa; and four sisters, Addy Link of Abbeville, SC, Janic Mullikin of Pendleton. S C .; Eva Walker of Anderson, SC .; and Ruth Massey of Liberty, S.C.
