James . W. Young, 57, of 2027 .. Crestview Ave., Lake Isabella, .died Dec. 16 in the Kern Valley "Hospital following a lengthy ill- riess. He retired in May from the U.S. Corps of Engineers at Isabella ·Lake as a recreation attendant.

Mr. Young moved to the Kern Valley nine years ago from Los Angeles. He was born in Perry- ville, Ky., and was affiliated with the American Legion.

Native Daughter Daisy Jordan, 91 Dies on Birthday
Mrs. Daisy M. Jordan, who was born in Old Kernville and spent her early childhood on a South Fork ranch, died last week on her 91st birthday in a Bakersfield hospital. Since 1942 she had resided at 1121 El Ran- cho Rd., Bakersfield.
Services were held Dec. 22 at Greenlawn Chapel and inter- ment followed at Union Ceme- tery, Bakersfield.
Mrs. Jordan was the daughter of John and Sophie Batz, early day ranchens in the South Fork.
Mrs. Jordan's husband and her father founded Bakersfield Abstraot Co., now Title Insur- ance & Trust.
She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist. Church . for. 60 years.
She is survived by two sons, Jack S. Jordan and Justus Jor- dan, both - of Bakersfield; - a · daughter, Mrs. Daisy, M .. Cro- dero of Goleta; three grand- children, and five great-grand- children.

Charles Sargent, Kernville, Found Dead in His Home
Cause of the death of Charles Sargent, about 75, 115 Mountain Dr., Kernville, is expected to be announced later this week by the County Coroner.
Sargent was found dead at his home Tuesday (Dec. 28) after neighbors requested 'Sheriff's deputies; investigate.
A deputy coroner said Sar- gent probably died about Dec. 24. Local funeral arrangements are being handled by Valley Mortuary. Services tentatively, are planned today (Dec."30)"in- Paso Robles.
He is survived by a sister who resides 'in Grass Valley. His brother,: Lou Sargent, original manufacturer and distributor of Spindoo fishing lures and a for- mer Kernville resident also, died several months ago in Hol- lywood following a lengthy ill- ness.

Last Rites Sat. For Ruth Hinkey, Former Resident
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 8) at the old section of the Kern River Valley District Cemetery for Mrs. Ruth Hinkey, about 79, who died". Wednesday in a Re- seda rest home. She lived in Kernville from 1944 to 1969 and was well known for her oil paint- ings of Kern Valley scenes.
She is survived by two daugh- tens, Patricia McPherson and Peggy Jackson, both of Reseda; three sons, Ted Hinkey and Dennis Hinkey, both of Loomis, and John Hinkey of Reseda; 23 grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren.
Mrs. Hinkey's son, Ted, a Mormon bishop, will officiate at the services.

Services were held Jan. 12 at Stickel Mortuaries' Little Chap. ol of the Elms. Tehachapi, for Allen V. Fee. 78, of 108 Locust Lane, Kernville. He died Jan. 6 in a Spokane, Wash., hospital.
Rev. Willard Vanfussen of the Kermille Methodist Church of- ficiated. Interment was at the Tehachapi Cemetery.
He was employed at the China Lake Weapons Center before his retirement.
Mr. Fee had lived in Kern- ville since 1953 and in California since 1941. He was a native of Wyoming.

Edw. Johnson, 71, Former Keyesville Resident Passes ·
Graveside services .were held Saturday (Jan. 15) at the Kern River Valley District Cemetery for Edward C. Johnson, 71, for 15 years a friendly and familiar figure to Keyesville . residents and visitors.
He died at his home Jan. 12 in Rock Haven Trailer Park, Wof- ford Heights, where he had mov- ed last year. He had been in il health several months.
Father James Murphy of St. Jude's Catholic Church offic- jaled at the services.
Mr. Johnson has no known survivors.
He was bom in 1900 in' St. Louis, Mo.

John Kennedy, 66, Southlake, Passes
Services and interment were held Tuesday (Jan. 18) a: For- est Lawn, Glendale, for John A. Kennedy, 66, of 222 Southlake Dr., Southlake Estates. He died Jan. 13 at his home.
Mr. Kennedy was a former Los Angeles auto mechanic who retired to the Kern Valley about 21/2 years ago.

Nellie Witt, 81, Former Teacher, Dies
Mrs Nellie G. Witt, 81. one. time school teacher in Kelso Valley, Old Isabella and Rands- burg, died Monday at Mercy Hospital, Bakersfield. She had been ill for a long period and was a resident of Lake View Guest Home, Wofford Heights.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday (Jan. 21) at the Rand District Cemetery. Johannesburg.
Mrs. Witt first taught school in Muncie, Ind., and in 1917 moved to Randsburg, where she taught until the 1940's when she moved to Kelso Valley.
Her husband, who died in 1942, was the desert blacksmith at Randsburg. Her great grand- parents homesteaded in Sage Land, about 15 miles south of Weldon.
She is survived by three daughters, Susan Milligan of Lake Isabella, Margaret John- son of Mountain Home. Ida., and Mary Tice of Notus, Ida .: six sons, Tim and Jim of Onyx. Hyram of Valley Springs. Albert of Lodi, Robert of Cudahy and Michael of Fairoaks; 19 grand children and one great grand- child.

Services were held Wednesday (Jan. 26) at Valley Mortuary for William Derbyshire, 61, of Squirrel Mountain Valley, who died at his home Saturday. He moved here four years ago from the Los Angeles area where he was a tire builder and until two years ago operated the Mountain Mesa Gulf Station,

Mr. Derbyshire is survived by his wife, May; a brother, Harry of Lynwood; four sisters, Betty Smith and Genevieve Young of Squirrel Mountain Valley; Lil- lian Miller of Mountain Mesa and Vivian Rivera of Escondido; and his mother, Emma D. Der- byshire of Squirrel Mountain Valley.

Last Rites for Russell Morris, Lake Isabella
Services were held Tuesday (Jan. 25) at Valley Mortuary for Russell Morris, 67, 2601 Cherry St., Lake Isabella, sec- ond vice president of the 55 Plus Club and a retired manufactur- er's agent who moved here five years ago from Los Angeles.
He died of a heart attack Jan. 20 at the Fountain of Youth Spa, Niland, near the Salton Sea. He was stricken following a heart attack by his wife, Laura, the same day. She was hospitalized" briefly in a Brawley hospital but has returned to the Kern Valley.
Rev. Mark Stahnke of the Weldon Methodist Church offic- iated at the services. Interment was in the Kern River Valley District Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Carl Leon- ard, Wayne Perry, Bill Rettew, Albert Landoll, George Infange and Art Wagner.
His wife is his only survivor.
Retired Officer, Maj. W. Williams Of Bodfish, Dies
Major W. J. Williams, 73, U. S. Army (retired), of 41 Ver- na St., Bodfish died Monday (Jan. 24) at the China Lake Weapons Center hospital.
Time and date of his services at McNerney Mortuary, San Pedro, were pending earlier this week. Burial will be at the U. S. Military Cemetery in San Bruno.
Major Williams was a Kern Valley resident the past four years and served in the Army for 30 years prior to his retire- ment. He was a member of the Masonic Order and the Elks and was born in 1899 in Cham- pagne, Ill.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine.

Services were held Saturday (Jan. 29) at Valley Mortuary for Armour C. Myers, 86, of Squirrel Mountain Valley. He died at Kern Valley Hospital Thursday (Jan. 27) following a heart attack.
Mr. Myers lived in the Kern Valley about three years, mostly on Erskine Creek Rd., Lake Is- abella. He is a retired foreman for the Ventura County Roads Dept. and a life member of Elks Lodge 1539, Ventura.
Services were conducted by members of the Kern Valley Elks Lodge. Interment was at the Kern River Valley District Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Lena: a daughter, Elizabeth Sawtelle of Vacaville; a sister, Hazel Myers of Seattle; two grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Pioneer Rancher James Robertson Is Dead at 93
One of the Kern Valley's old- est and best known pioneers died of a heart attack at his Weldon home Feb. 2. He is James L. Robertson, 93, retired South Fork cattle rancher who resided in this area for 73 years.
His services were held Satur- day (Feb. 5) ''at the Weldon Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Stahnke officiating. Inter- ment was in the Kern River Valley District Cemetery.
Mr. Robertson is survived by his wife, Ann; a daughter, Eve- lyn Holster of Long Beach, two grandchildren and five great- grandchildren.
His pallbearers were Leonard Alexander. Walter Meacham, Keith Alexander, Richard Statts, Glenn Alexander and Stephen Vall. Honorary pallbearers were Weaver Hand, Bill Chappell, Harold Shaw, Ardis Walker and Wesley Leazenby.

Mr. Doorlag was born in Kal- amazco, Mich., and was an ac- tive member of the Elks.
He is survived by his wife. Verla; a son. Jerry Jr. of Pico Rivera: two brothers, Jack and Herman of Michigan; a sister. Jessie Younker of Michigan; and two grandchildren.

Services were held Feb. 3rd in Tuolumne-Twain Harte Chap. el for Mrs. Georgia M. Robinson who died in a Richmond Hos- pi:al following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Robinson, 63, was born in Hickman, but spent mos; of her life in Tuolumne and Sonora. Her late husband Cyril (Cy) Robinson was a native of Old Kernville, and his father, Jerry Robinson, was also a native of the Valley but left here when Cyril was,a boy and made their home in Tuolumne.
Those who attended the funer- al were Mr. and Mrs. John Rob- inson, Bakersfield; John Robin- son Jr., Mojave: Beverly (Rob- inson) Hanning, Weldon; Mrs. Rose (Bev) Robinson, Weldon; Mr. and Mrs. James Wermuth, Ojai; and Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Metz, Wofford Heights.
Mrs Robinson is survived by two sons, Cyril Robinson Jr. of Tuolumne and James E. Robin- son of Richmond; a daughter, Georgia M. May of Merced, a sister. Lucille Young of Chula Vista; and six grandchildren.

Dr. Charles Barrows, 81, Dies in lowa
Former prominent Kern Val- ley physician, Dr. Charles V. Barrows, 81, died Feb. 10 in the Knoxville, Iowa, Veterans Hos- pital following a lengthy illness.
Services were held Monday in Knoxville at the Biebe & Davis Funeral Home. Interment was at the Washington, Iowa, Cem- etery.
Dr. Barrows opened a medi- cal practice in Old Kernville in 1938, and he and his wife es- tablished the Kern Valley Hos- pital first in Old Kernville and later in Wofford Heights at what is now the Lake View Guest Home.
Dr. and Mrs. Barrows retired several years ago to Bakersfield and later to his native home of West Chester, Iowa.
He served in World War I as a medical doctor and later was active in the Masonic Order. He became a 32nd degree Mason.
Dr. Barrows is survived by his wife, Marie, 403 South Lin- coln St., Knoxville, Iowa.

Graveside services at the Kern River Valley District Cem- etery were held Tuesday (Feb. 15) for John Allen Farthing. 64, retired bartender of Wofford Heights. He died at Kern Valley Hospital Feb. 10 following a heart attack.
Mr. Farthing moved to the Kern Valley from the Los An- geles area 10 years ago.

Ed Straker's Body Found In Lake Tues.
The body of drowning victim Edgar W. (Ed) Straker, 32, came to the surface of Isabella Lake Tuesday (Feb. 29), 48 days after the harsh tragedy that took his life.
Dune buggy driver Bob Rob- bins of Mountain Mesa, driving along the sands at Saddle Beach about two miles east of Rocky Point, discovered the body in shallow water and reported to the Sheriff's Substation at Lake Isabella.
Straker and Robert Snyder, 56, of Kernville, were drowned Jan. 12 while hunting north of Isabella Marina 1 in Straker's boat. Snyder's body was recov- ered the day following the tragedy.
The two men had teamed up last summer to manage and coach a championship y o u t h league baseball team.
Straker was a member of the Lions Club and prominent as an electrician for Leavy Electric, Wofford Heights. He moved here with his family from Downey seven years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia; three sons, David 9, Guy 11 and Jim 13; his par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar B. Straker of Wofford Heights; two sisters, Mrs. Hal Leavy of Wofford Heights and Mrs. Eliz- abeth Ellis of Norwalk.
Mr. Straker was assistant scout master of Troop 871, com- mitteeman for Cub Scout Pack 90 and a member of the Kern Valley Trap Shooting Team.
A memorial service in his honor was held in Kernville on Jan. 22.
And an education fund for the three young Straker boys has been established at Santa Bar- bara Savings & Loan Assoc., Kernville. Contributions have flowed steadily into it thru Mrs. Leland Scott, Box 747, Kernville.

Services were held Wednes- day (Mar. 1) at the Weldon Methodist Church for Mrs. Nor- ma Louise Noack, 69, of the Powers Tract, Weldon. She died Saturday at Mercy Hospital, Bakersfield.

Mrs. Lydia V. Waters, 86, a resident of the Lake View Guest Home, Wofford Heights, the past four months died Feb. 21 at Kern Valley Hospital. She had moved here from Hermosa Beach.
Services were held Friday (Feb. 25) at Niland Mortuary, Torrance, with interment follow- ing at Pacific Crest Cemetery, Redondo Beach.
Mrs. Waters was a member of the Church of the Brethern, Redondo Beach.
She is survived by a son, Clif- ford R. Waters, Kernville; a sister, Mrs. Mary Sawyer of Kansas; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Last Rites Held For Mrs. Elsie Harold, Isabella
Services were held Friday (Feb. 25) in San Fernando and Bakersfield for Mrs. Elsie Har- old, 69, of 1818 Edith Ave., Lake Isabella. She died Feb. 20 in Saugus Hospital.
Mortuary services were held at Noble Chapel, San Fernando, followed Friday afternoon by graveside services at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Bakersfield.
Mrs. Harold moved to the Kern Valley three years ago from Perris.
She is survived by her hus- band, Victor; two sons, Marlin Harold of Granada Hills and Richard Harold of San Fernan- do; a sister, Mrs. Marie Lund- gren of El Monte; two brothers, Guy Temple of Washington and Don Temple of Missouri; a n d three grand children.
Services Monday For John Stary Of Wofford Hts.
John Arthur Stary, 70, of Rock Haven Trailer Park, Wofford Heights died Feb. 24 in Kern Valley Hospital. He was a re- tired vaudeville and show busi- ness cyclist who later operated a cycle shop in the Hollywood area. He had been a Kern County resident about 18 months.
Services were held Monday at Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella, with officers of the Kern Valley Elks Lodge officiat- ing. Interment was at Kern Valley District Cemetery.
Mr. Stary is survived by his wife, Lea, and a sister, Steph- anie Topacz of Studio City.
Grady B. Peters, DAV Leader, Dies In Vets' Hospital
Grady B. Peters, 56, of Bella Vista, Weldon, died Feb. 24 at the Veterans Hospital in Sepul- veda. Interment with full mili- tary honors was at Sawtelle.
Grady was a life member of the Disabled American Veter- ans and served as treasurer of Kern River Valley Chapter 54 as well as District 4 chaplain.
Even though his own health was failing him, he still found time to serve local veterans and spread cheer and friendliness wherever he went. He served in the U.S. armed forces for six years in World War II, first as instructor for 19 months at West Point and later in the African Campaign and the E.T.O.
Grady is survived by his wife Lila; one daughter, Mrs. Heddie Sawyer of Los Hacienda Hgts .; two sisters, Margaret Davis and Ida Gillimore, both of Santa Paula; two brothers, Hugh of Reedley and C. J. Peters of Barttesville, Okla. and five grandchildren.
Grady's wife requests no flowers. Cards & donations may be sent to K.R.V. 54, Drawer J, Lake Isabella for eventual dis- tribution to the local Cancer Re- search fund in Grady B. Pet- er's name.
