Alva Mead. 68, well known owner and manager of the Mead Motel in Kernville for the past ten years, died Dec. 23 of natural causes at Kern Valley Hospital.


Graveside services were held Friday (Dec. 26) at Kem Val- ley District Cemetery with Rev. Loren Drake, pastor of the Community United Methodist Church, Kernville, officiating. Valley Mortuary. Lake Isabella, was in charge of arrangements.


He is survived by his wife, Grace, and a daughter, Alice Christy O'brien of Granada Hills and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Matilda Long. 82. of Rock Haven Trailer Park. Wofford Heights, died Dec. 31. Funeral services and interment took place in Bellflower.


She is survived by her hus- band, Hubert. The Longs man- aged the trailer park where they lived for their.son. Everett Long of Bellflower.


Bosides her husband and her son, Mrs. Long is survived by a daughter, Helen Porter of Bell- flower & several grandchildren.

Floyd Williamson, Kernville, Dies


Floyd Williamson, 6S. Kern- ville, died Jan. 2 at the Chy of Hope, Duarte, of natural causes. Before his retirement two years ago he was a heavy equipment operator in Illinois.


Services were held Monday (Jan. 5) at the Valley Mortuary, Lake Isabella, with Rev. Loren Drake of the Community United Methodist Church. Kernville, officiating. Fraternal rites were conducted by members of VFW Post 7665. He was buried at the Kern Valley .District Cemetery.


Williamson was born in Spring- field, S.D., on Jan. 18, 1901.

Naomi Orrick, Former Kernville Resident, Dies


Services were held Dec. 31 for Naomi Lorraine Orrick, 57. Oil- dale, former resident of Kern- ville. ar Greenlawn Chapel, Bak- ersfield. following her death at home on Dec. 29. Interment was in Greenlawn Memorial Park.


She had been a bookkeeper and was employed hy A. H. Karpe Enterprises, Bakersfield. She had lived in Kern County the past 32 years.


Survivors include a son, Mack. and a grandson Rob Roy, both of Kernville; five brothers, Otis and Bill Ford, both of Texas. Orville Ford of Colorado. Paul Ford of Fresno and Tom Ford of Bakersfield, two sisters. Anu Bursom of Fillmore and Polly Wisehaupt of San Diego.


Rev. Clyde B. Skidmore, pas- bor of the First Southern Baptist Church, Bakersfield, officiated at the services.


Marvin Galiger, Lake Isabella, Passes Dec. ,28


Marvin T. Galiger, 57, of Lake Isabella, dicd Dec. 28 at the Kern Valley Hospital and was buried Dec. 31 in the West Side District Cemetery, Taft. He had lived in the Kern Valley the past three years.


He was born in Western Grove, Ark., and had lived in California 28 years.


He was a former employee of the Ford Motor Co., Los Angeles.


Survivors include his wife, Syl- via Katherine: two sons, Marvin T. Jr. and Gary.L., both of Gar- dena; two brothers, Teddy B., of Gardena. and B. Galiger of Taft; two sisters, Tressie Dem- arest and Alta Morris, both of Taft, and a grandson.

Pio Lorenzini, who maintained a mobile home in the Powers Tract and a home in Sierra Madre. died Friday (Jan. 16) in a Southern California hospital following an attack of double pneumonia.

Willard Haskell Duke. 53. re- pred auto mechanic, died of a heart attack Monday (Jan. 19) al his home in Shady Elm Traiter Park, Kernvale.


Services will be held Friday at H & m. at the First Baptist Church of Lake Isabella with Rev. Dale Brown officiating. In- terment will follow at Kern Val- ley District Cemetery.


Duke was born July 29, 1916, in Arkansas. He had lived in the Kern Valley four months and in California 35 years.

A mifrary service conducted by members of VFW Post 7665 was held Saturday (Jan. 24) at the Kern Valley District Cemie- try for James. Hughes Mulalley. 54, of Kernville who died Jan. 20 in a Southern California hospital.


He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Augusta Malalley of San Fernando and a brother. Larry Mulalley oi Kernville und San Fernando.

Earl Jones, Hut Owner Dead at 68


Earl Everett Jones, ES. pop. ular Kernville owner and gen. eral manager of The Hut. died Tuesday (ren 3) in a Bakers- field hospital. "Jonesy." as he was best known, had been in nl health several weeks.


He came to the Valley tour years ago from Las Vegas where he was the casino manager at the Last Frontier Hotel. In the Kern Valley he quickly won u large following of friends and admirers.


"Jonesy was born in Enola. Ark . on July 22, 1901.


He is a 25-year member of the Benevolent and Protective Or- der of Elks


Funeral services will be held a: 2 p.m. Friday (Feb. 6) at the Community United Methodist Church in Kernville with Rev. Loren Drake officiating. Inter. ment at the Kern Valley Dis- triet Cemetery will follow.

Funeral services were he !! here yesterday (Feb. 4) for George Stengardt, 69, a well known formet Kern Valley rest. dent and buisnessmen. He dir.i of cancer in a hospital in Morte Bay where he had moved two years ago from the Valley.


He owned and managed re Kernville Garage beginning in 1940 in Old Kernville, and when Isabella Lake was established in the carly fifties he moved thr building to is present location in Kernville. He also moved zł, St. Jude's Church to its presqui Wofford Heights site.


In Old Kernville he also wat : the owner-manager of a restant ant.


Services were held at Si Jude's Catholic Church with it ferment following at the Old Kern River Valley District Cen etery. Father James Murphy officialed


Stengara, was born July 4 1900. in Russia and imoved wh. his family to Illinois at the ap. of 12. The family moved agath in about 1916 to Los Angeles


He later operated a garage in Lebec and was an auto part : salesman based in Oildale.


He is survived by his wife, the former Myra Rold.

The Wyatts lived here from Oct .. 1966, to Oct., 1969, when they moved to Waco, her home town.

He was born in Chicago, had lived in California 32 years and was affiliated with the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his widow, Ruby, and a broth- er, Harry of Plainview, Ill.

Myrtle Carnahan, Former Resident, Dies in Michigan


Mrs. Myrtle Carnahan, 49, 3 resident of the Kern Valley unul 1968. died recently in Port Huron.


Mich., following an illness of eight months.


Funeral services were held in Port Huron on Feb. 8.


She was born Oct. 14, 1920.


She is survived by her hus- band, Ira; two daughters, Mrs. Richard Mackeit and Mrs. Rob- ert Duprie, both of Port Huron; a daughter, Mrs. Dennis Jack- son, now with her husband on U.S. Air Forces assignment in Spain; a son, Richard Carnahan, Lake Isabella: and 11 grand children.

Arthur George Seldney. 61, of Bodfish, dica following a cereb- ral hemorrage Feb. 24 at Kern Valley Hospital. He moved here about a year ago after retiring as a too! and gauge inspector at the Bendix plant in Sylmar.


Services were held Feb. 27 in Canoga Park with interment at Oakwood Memorial Park, Chats- worth.


He was a Mason and was born in Yonkers, N. Y., on Jan. 11. 1909


He is survived by his wife. Eleanor; a daughter, Alice Joy. of Saugus, two sons, Edward of Las Vegas, and Arthur Jr. of Thousand Oaks; a half-brother, Arthur C. Fulda of Germany; and a half-sister, Mrs. Margaret Russell of Fountain Valley.

Wilhelm Fritz Neilson, 54, the original owner of The Hideaway tavern in Wofford Heights, chied Monday (April 20) of a heart attack at lus home on Pinewood S :. in Wofford Heights. Funeral arrangements at a Long Beach mortuary have not been an- nounced.


Mrs. Marie Cole, 68, Onyx, Dies


Mrs. Marie Cole, 68, a promi- nent resident of Onyx since 1918, died this week of natural causes at her home.


Services will be held at 1 p.m Friday (Aptit 24) at Valley Mori- uary. Lake Isabella, with Rev. Bryan Wilber officiating.


She was a past president al the Rock Hounds and is a life member of the South Fork PTA.


Mrs. Cole was born July 24. 1901, in Ingraham, Ill.


Her husband. Arthur Cole, died abow six months ago. Ile was associated with the Onyx Ranch for many years.


She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Jean lice, and a grand-en. Eugene Tice, both of North Edwards.

Apparent Heart Attack Takes LA Woman Sunday


Mrs. Margarete Montoya Gon- zalez. 62. of 1216 North Ditman Ave .. Los Angeles, was pro- nounced dead on arrival at Kern Valley Hospital Sunday (May 17) following an apparent heart at- tack at a trailer about two miles northwest of Wofford Heights.


Her body was later transferred to Bakerstield for a coroner s autopsy. according to a sheriff's report.


Included among her survivors are her husband, Glenn. and a daughter, Litizia R. Ericson, 39. of Los Angelcs.

William Eugene Lovley, 48, of 2600 Lupine St., Lake Isabella, dicd May 17 in a Las Vegas hos- pital.

Servcies for Mrs. M. M. Gonzalez, In Los Angeles


Services Were held Thursday (May 21) at Assumption Catholic Church, Los Angeles, Ior Mrs. Margarete Montoya Gonzalez, 62, who was stricken May 17 at her Wofford Heights trailer with a hypertensive heart attack caused by high blood pressure.


Cause of death was determined by the Kern County coroner. She was pronounced dead on arrival at Kern Valley Hospital and transferred to Bakersfield for a coroner's autopsy.

Mrs. C. Griswald, Former Isabella Resident, Passes


Mrs. Charlene Bell Griswald. 49, a resident of Lake Isabella until six months ago, died May 19 in a Cheviot Hills, Los An- geles, convalescent home


Services were held Friday (May 22) at Valley Mortuary with interment following at Kern River Valley District Cemetery. Rev. James Loper of the Assembly of God Church, Wof- ford Heights, officiated.


Mrs. Griswald is Survived by a daughter, Patricia Castleman of Venice, and a brother, Frank Cronin.


She was born in Chicago Feb 20. 1921.

Services for James Wilkie Held May 29


Services were held Friday May 29 at St. Jude's Catholic Church, Wofford Heights, for James Michael Wilkie, 34, Weld- on. who was killed May 25 in an auto accident on Hwy. 178 near Weldon.


He was a lumberjack who mov- ed here three months ago with his family. He was born May 28, 1935, in St. Joseph, Mo.


Father James Murphy officiat- ed. Members of VFW Post 7665. its Ladies' Auxiliary and World War I Barracks 1841 assisted at the graveside.


Wilkie is survived by his wife, Paula; two sons, Michael and Sean; a daughter, Laura; his mother, Mrs. Madeline Wilkie uf Hammond, Ind .; two brothers, Joe of Florida; and Thomas of Indiana; and two sisters, Made- line Mccutcheon of Indiana anrt Mary Maggio of Illinois.


Arrangements were by Valley Mortuary.

Heart Attack Takes Joseph Lillio, 68


Joseph Lillio, 68, retired sales- man of 4406 Grace St., Mountain Mesa, died of a heart attack Tuesday (June 9) at Ridgecrest Hospital.


Rosary services will be held at S p.m. tonight at Valley Mort- uary, Lake Isabella.


Services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Friday at St. Jude's Catholic Church, Wofford Heights, with Father James Mur- phy officiating.


Lillio was born in Newark, N. J., on April 14, 1902.


He is survived by his wife, Mamie; two daughters, Mrs. Ar- lene Vradenberg of San Fernan- do and Mis. Joanne Bamford of Escondido; a son, Joseph Jr of West Los Angeles; a brother, Ralph of New Jersey; a sister, Mrs. Kathciine Armeno of New Jersey; and 10 grandchildren.

Services for H. G. Teague


Services were held June 4 30 Kern Valley District Cemetery for Herbert Guy Teague, 33, of North Hollywood He was killed in a traffic accident east of Onyx May 30.


Rev. Dale Brown officiated


Teague was an actor known on, the screen and stage as Brian Teague and was a property owner in Onyx for several years.


He is survived by his wife. Vir- gmia of North Hollywood, his mother, Mrs. Freda Teague of Van Nuys, a son, Glen of North Hollywood: a daughter, Peggy of Las Vegas; three brothers, Gary of Bellvicw, Wash., Pat- rick of Van Nuys and Terry of Phoenix, Ariz .; and two sisters, Susan and Melissa, both of Van Nuys.

Mrs. Blanche V. Johnstone, 91, Bodfish, Passes


Mrs. Blanche V Johnstone, 91, died Tuesday (June 9) at the home of her son and daughter-in- law, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Johnstone, of Bodfish.


Services and interment will be held Saturday at the Inglewood Cemetery, Los Angeles.


She had lived in the Kern Valley the past year and was born in Brooklyn, N.Y.
