J. W. Horton, 71, Retired Driller, Buried in Del Mar
Joseph W. Horton, 71, retired oil well driller who resided in Lake Isabella the past year, died Sept. 9 at the West Side Hospital, Taft, of natural causes.
Graveside services were held Saturday (Sept. 12) at El Camino Memorial Park, Del Mar. Frater. nal rites were conducted by a Veterans of Foreign Wars post.
He was born in Gorman, Tex- as, on Sept. 25, 1899. He worked for Santa Fe Drilling Co. at many oil fields in the United States and overseas.
Horton is survived by a daugh- ter, Betty Brunser of Tucson, Ariz .; two sisters, Beatrice Johnson of Denver, Colo., and Bertha Porter of Phoenix, Ariz .: a brother, M. G. Horton of So- lana Beach; and one grandchild.

Services were held yesterday (Sept. 16) at the Valley Mortu- ary Chapel, Lake Isabella. In- terment followed at the Kern River Valley District Cemetery. Rev. William Kellner of the Church of the Nazarene, Lake Isabella ,officiated.
She was born in Roanoke, Va., on Dec. 15, 1905.
Mrs. Palmer is survived by her husband, Lloyd.

Harry Raymond Reed, 59, Wof- ford Heights, died Saturday (Sept. 19) in the Kern Valley Hospital. Christian Science ser- vice was held Tuesday at the Valley Mortuary, Lake Isabella. Interment was at the Kern River Valley District Cemetery.
Reed was born on Mar. 1. 1911, in Paris, Ill.
He is survived by his wife, Izetta; a son, Norman Satany of Manhattan Beach, two daugh- ters, Penny Moore and Kathleen Issacs, both of Santa Monica; a brother, Ivan Reed of Parsons, Kan .; a sister, Hazel Cristwell of Parsons, Kan .; six grandchild- ren and one great-grandchild.

Franklin Grinstead Bouton, 84. ake Isabella, died Sept 15 at
Kern Valley Hospital. Grave- Je services at the Kern River Valley District Cemetery were held Sept. 18 with Rev. Willard L. Vanfossen of the Community United Methodist Church of Kernville officiating.
Prior to his retirement he was a bookkeeper for B & M Con- struction Co., Illinois. He was a resident of the Kern Valley the past eight years. He was born in 1885 in Illinois.
Survivors are a daughter. Grace Sparks of Fresno; a son, Edward Bouton of Los Angeles; three sisters, Lucile Bryan of Lake Isabella, Marjorie String- er of Santa Paula and Grace Hawkins of Oklahoma; and a brother, Edgar Bouton of Okla- homa.
Arrangements were by Valley Mortuary, Lake Isabella.
Death Takes Cliff Brown, 69, Isabella
Clifford Brown, 69, Lake Isa- bella. died Sept. 16 at Physic- :ans' Hospital, Bakersfield, of cancer.
Sorvices were held Sept. 19 at Hillcrest Chapel & Memorial Park. Bakersfield. Rev. Kenneth Adams of the First Methodist Church of Bakersfield officiated.
He was a prominent member of the 55 Plus Club, the Belles & Beaus dance club and the Senior Citizens of Lake Isabella and Oildale.
His wife, Mabel; had been in a Bakersfield hospital more than six weeks recovering from a ma- jor heart attack. She was releas- ed to attend the services and since has been moved to New- port Harbor Convalescent Hos- pital, 1555 Superior, Newport Beach, where a daughter resides.
Brown was born in Howarden, Ia., and lived in California 45 years.
He is survived by his wife, Mabel: two daughters, Mrs. Irene Robertson of Corona del Mar and Mrs Geraldine Gorman of Newport Beach; a son, Jack Lloyd of La Habra, 11 grand- children and three great-grand- children.
Tulare County Deputy Johnny McNally and six Johnsondale men effected his rescue. The Johnsondale men are Vearl Chapm Steve Staley, John Ev. ans, Butch Barnes, Marlin Davis and Bobby Clark.
Dow was rushed to Kern Val- ley Hospital for emergency treat- ment by Bohn's Ambulance Ser- vice and later transferred to Holy Cross Hospital, San Fer- nando.

Mrs. Barbara L. Hammons, 63, of Morro Bay, died Oct. 6 in Kernville at the Sierra Way home of her brother, John Gobler, and family.
Private services were held Oct. 10 at the Community Unit- ed Methodist Church of Kern- ville. Rev. Willard Vanfossen officiated. Interment was at the Kern Valley District Cem- etery.
Mrs. Hammons was born in Theil River Falls, Minn., on Jan. 1, 1907. She graduated from the University of Minne- sota in 1924. Before retiring in 1956 she operated a medical laboratory in Bakersfield and was active in the medical pro- fession.
She is survived by her broth- er, John Gobler; two nephews, Eric and Friz Gobler; two nicces. Barbara Martin and Gretchen Hayes.
Pall bearers were Beverly Robinson Jr., Marvin Powers, John Burlando. Dave Mar:in and William Joughin.

1 Frank Eugene Fowler, 67. North Fork Trailer Park, Kern- ville, died Oct. 3 in the Kern Valley Hospital. He was cre- mated Oct. 6.
He was a retired U. S. Forest Service employee and was well known in the Kern Valley and Johnsondale arcas.
Fowler was born in Pomona. He lived in Kernville the past three years.
Survivors included his wife, Carmen; a son, Richard Fowl- er of Porterville; and a daugh- ter, Mrs. Donna Watke of Reno, Nev.

Willie Lloyd Bowman, 75, an eleven-year resident of Wofford Heights, died Monday (Oct. 19) at Memorial Hospital, Bakers- field.
Graveside services will be held today (Oct. 22) at 1 p.m. at the Kern River Valley Dis- trict Cemetery. Rev. Dale Brown of the First Baptist Church of Lake Isabella will officiate.
Bowman owned and operated a Long Beach automotive re- pair shop for many years before reuring to Wofford Heights in 1959. He was born in Norman, Okla., July 27, 1895, and lived in California 50 years.
He is survived by his wife. Birdie; two sons, Hallis Ber- trand of Bakersfield and Hal Bertrand of Long Beach; a daughter, Claire King, formerly of Taft but now of Wofford Heights; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Heart Attack Takes Dr. W A. Swift, 57
Services were held Oct. 12 in Lancaster for Dr. Wesley A. Swift, 57. of 9 Pine St., Wofford Heights, often called the "Des- ert Minister." He died Oct. 8th of a heart attack. He was well known as a conservative leader and minister.
Dr. Swift, began his active ministry in 1934 in Randsburg and founded the Church of Jesus Christ. Christian, in 1935 in Lancaster. For many years he conducted regularly scheduled services in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland, Stockton, Merced and Riverside in addi- tion to Lancaster. He also con- ducted a recorded "tape minis- try" that reached every Chris- tian nation.
He moved to Wofford Heights three months ago.
He is survived by his wife. Lorraine: a son; Richard F. Swift, of Wofford Heights; two daughiers. Joan Nielsen and · Linda Miller of Lancaster: 12 grandchildren, and his father, Rev. Richard C. Swift, retired Arrangements were by Mum- aw Funeral Home, Lancaster.

Edward A. Eberle, 74, retired Antelope Valley rancher who resided in Lake Isabella, died Oct. 22 in a Bakersfield hospital.
Catholic services were held Monday (Oct. 26) at Hillcrest Mortuary Chapel, Bakersfield, with interment following at Hill- crest Memorial Park.
Eberle was born in St. Jo- seph's Hills, Ind., and for 43 years was a prominent Antelope Valley alfalfa, poultry and cat- tle rancher bofore retiring to the Kern Valley five years ago.

An 18-year-old former Kern Valley High School student, Charles C. Harmon, died of can- cer Oct. 20 at Kern General Hospital. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Harmon, 8905 Pioneer Dr., Bakersfield. The father is a former SUN em- ployee.
Services were held Saturday (Oct. 24) at Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary, Bakersfield. Rev. Lewis Ashmore officiated. Young Harmon also attended Foothill High School in Bakers- field where he was active in the Foresteen Club. He was born in Los Angeles.

Mrs. Anna Lee Murray, 86, of 231: Elk Dr., Bodfish, died Mon- day (Nov. 16) in Kern Valley Hospital. She was a Kern Val- Jey, resident the past 21 years and had lived in California 38 years.
She was born Mar. 5, 1884, in Palestine, Tex.
Graveside services were held Wednesday at the Kern River Valley Ditsrict Cemetery. Rev. Willard Vanfossen of the Com- munity Methodist Church of Kernville officiated.

Services were held Monday (Nov. 16) for Ellsworth Whitten Johnson, 77, Bakersfield, vet- eran Kern County restaurateur and one - time Kernville and Onyx cowboy.
He also was a teamster on the Bodfish-Caliente Rd. before the Kern Canyon road was con- structed.
Johnson died Friday in a Bak- ersfield hospital.
Dr. John A. Lavender of the First Baptist Church, Bakers- field, officiated. Services and interment were held at Green- lawn Chapel and Memorial Park, Bakersfield.
He married Etta Powers of the South Fork pioneer family in 1917 and homesteaded near Nine-Mile Canyon .-
The Johnsons later owned and operated a Taft service station and drive-in restaurants in Bak- ersfield and Arvin.

Interment will be at Pontiac Southside Cemetery, Pontiac, Ill. Mrs. McClintock was born Dec. 22, 1875, in Pontiac. She was a resident of Whittier 36 years before moving to Onyx. . Survivors include a daughter. Mrs. Orian Campbell; a grand- daughter. Mrs. Timothy Witt; and two great-grandsons, Steph- en and Stuart Witt. all of Onyx.

Mrs. Verna Mae Jensen, 85, prominent long-time resident of Bodfish, died Nov. Il in a Bal ersfield hospital. She was Bod- fish postmistress for many years and operated the Bodfish General Store for 42 years.

Hans Rudolph Jepsen, 69, of Pinewood Rd., Squirrel Moun- tain Valley, died Nov. 14 in Me- morial Hospital, Bakersfield.

Jepsen was a Pacific Tele- phone PBX repairman in North Hollywood for 42 years before retiring here nine years ago. He was born in Denmark and re- sided in California 64 years.

Lew Sargent, Fishing Lure Maker, Dead
Lewis W. Sargent, 67, recent Kernville resident and former manufacturer of Spindoo fishing lures, died Friday (Nov. 20) in Hollywood West Hospital. Holly- wood. He had been in failing health several months.
Graveside services were held Monday (Nov. 23) at Pierce Bros. Valhalla Memorial Park. Burbank. Rev. Ernest Pipes of the Unitarian Church, Holly- wood, officiated.
Sargent was a veteran casting director for motion picture pro- duction companies in Hollywood before moving to the Kern River Valley. At one time he was on the staff at Camp Owen, the Kern County probation facility · for fiveniles.
He married Emma Hill in Aug 25. and they resided in the Los Angeles area at 10207 Wood- man, Mission Hills
His survivors include his wife; five brothers, Charles of Kernville, Daniel, William, Ed- ward and Robert; and six sis- ters, all of California.

Mrs. Meriem Francis Prim- cau, 50, co-owner with her hus- band Don of Ewing's on the Kern restaurant in Kernville, died suddenly at her home Tuesday (Nov. 24.)
She was found on the floor of their Kernville residence at Grove Park Way by her husband at 12:30 ncon. Immediate resus- clarion efforts by firemen from the Kern County Fire Dept. proved unsuccessful.

Wolford Heigh;s. An autopsy will be performed at Kern Gen- cral Hospital to determine the cause of death.

Enoch Ernest Martin, 73, prominent and popular presi- dent of the Lake Isabella 55 Plus Club, died Monday (Nov. 30) in Fresno. His home was at Pinewood Dr., Wofford Heights.
Masonic services will be held at 1 p.m. today (Dec. 3) at Hill- crest Chapel, Bakersfield. Ilt- terment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Orville J. Herrell, 59, retired Phelps-Dodge Corp. heat-treater of 26 Gary St., Bodfish, died Nov. 26 in the Kern Valley Hos- pital.
Services were held yesterday (Dec. 2) at Hillcrest Chapel, Bakersfield, with interment at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Rev. Dale Brown of the First Baptist Church of Lake Isabella offic- rated.
Herrell was born Sept. 4, 1911, in Shawnee, Okla. He lived in California 48 years.
Survivors include his wife, Anna; two daughters, Dorothy Harbour of Washington state and Patricia Wickham of Car- bon Canyon: two sisters, Della
Castleberry of Los Angeles and Rosa Domas of Wilmington; two nieces, Margaret Bobbit of Maywood and Gladys Hambly of Los Angeles.

OBITUARY
Arthur Swenson, 70, of Bodfish, Is Heart Victim
Arthur William Swenson, 70, of 119 Elk St., Bodfish, died sud- denly Dec. 4 in Kern Valley Hospital as a result of a heart attack. He was a resident of Bodfish seven years and before retirement owned and operated a Van Nuys machine shop.
Services were held Monday (Dec. 7) at Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella. Inter- ment was at the Kern River Valley District Cemetery. Rev. Dale Brown of the First Baptist Church of Lake Isabella offic- iated.
Swenson was born in Rock- ford, Ill., in 1900. He was a member here of the Isabella Lake 55 Plus Club.
He is survived by his wife, Oneida (Peggy); a brother, Carl Swenson of Ontario; a sister, Ethel Swenson of South Gate; and several nephews and nieces. Pallbearers were James Brown, LeRoy Wilcox, John Barney, Carl Leonard, Ivan Stuart and Vern Spyker.

Funeral Services For John R. Elam, 69, of Bodfish
Services at Hillcrest Mortu- ary Chapel were held Monday (Dec. 7) for John R. Elam, 69, of Bodfish, who died Dec. 3 in a Bakersfield Hospital. Interment was at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Rev. Mason Moore of the First Church of Religious Science, Bakersfield, officiated.
He was a California resident for 45 years and was born in Robertson County, Tenn. In Ven- tura he was a member of Poin- settia Masonic Lodge 633.
His survivors are his wife, Junia; a daughter, Mrs. Alene
Brant of Bakersfield; two sons, Raymond of Bakersfield and Terry ol El Monte; his mother, Mrs. Jessie Elam of Springfield. Tenn .; a sister, Mrs. Lena Chap- man of Greenbrier, Tenn .; and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Herbert Brand, Lloyd Collins, Bill Hill, Byron Peale, Frank Newell and Paul Hopengarner.
