E. PEARL MILLER


Graveside funeral services were conducted Monday, Sept. 17 at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Bakersfield, for Ellen Pearl Miller of Weldon. Officiating was Rev. Ernest B. Mulleur. Mrs. Miller passed away Sept. 12 at Greater Bakersfield Memorial Hospital, Bakersfield.


She is preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Bailey Miller, deceased in 1983 and survived by her granddaughter and grandson-in-law Peggy and David Aquino of Santa Maria, and great-grandchildren. Born July 23, 1893 in Illinois, Ellen Pearl Miller was 91 years of age. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary, Lake Isabella.

Agnes Holzer Agnes Holzer passed away Sept. 15, 1984 at the Motion Picture Hospital in Woodland Hills, Calif. Funeral services were conducted Tues., Sept. 18 at Pierce Brothers Mortuary in No. Hollywood.


Agnes is survived by three sons: Richard Kleemeyer and wife, Henrietta of Wofford Heights; Fred Holzer and wife, Diana, of Kernville, and Alfred Holzer and wife, Bertha, of Van Nuys.


Agnes had six grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and three great great-grandchildren.


Two sistera, Johanna Campbell of Panorama City and Margaret Robertson of Las Vegas and many wonderful neighbors and friends also survive.


She was employed by the D.W. Griffith Studios, a pioneer movie maker in the industry, and worked in film labs for forty years. She Lived in the San Fernando Valley and moved to Wofford Heights in 1971.


Agnes was born Jan. 14, 1888, in Fohnsdorf, Austria. She was 96. Her husband, Fritz Holzer, preceded her in death in 1970. Interment waa at Valhalla

A graveside funeral service was conducted Saturday, Sept. 15 at Kern River Valley Cemetery for Edna R. Etzel of Weldon, Officiating was Rev. Duane Splawn, pastor of the Kern River Valley Christiam Church of Southlake.


Edna Etzel passed away Sept. 12 at Antelope Valley Convalescent Hosptial in Lancaster.


She is survived by her daughters Norma Blackman Fulford of Weldon, Nyda Martin of Palmdale, Nora Corken of Weldon; son Charles Etzel of La Palma; niece Alma Crane of Spring, Texas; a dear friend Maud Marie Buck of Weldon; Seventeen grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Born February 25, 1899 in Galena, Cherokee County, Kansas, Edna Richmond Etzel was 85 years of age.

Carl G. Luther, 75, passed away September 7, 1984 in Long Beach. Born in Jasper. Ala., in 1908 he was a resident of Lake Isabella, moving to Long Beach when he became ill.


He is survived by wife Earlene M. Luther; sons Glenn E., Gary L., and William F. Luther; brothers Hobart, Berdie, Clyde and Chris Luther; sister Blanche Moore, and 5 grandchildren.


Graveside services were held Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Cypress. Stricklin/Snivley, Long Beach in charge of arrangements.

Neva Pearl Bumgarner


Funeral services for Neva Pearl Bumgarner, 71, of Lancaster were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14, 1004 at Murphy Mortuary Chapel in Lancaster with the Rev. C. Alton Thomas of the First Southern Baptist Church of Kernville officiating.


Neva had been a member of the Kernville church for many years. A native of Texas, Mra. Bumgarner was born on April 16, 1913 in Brownwood. On Sept. 8, 1941, in San Diego, she married Ernest T. Bumgarner. He died on June 16 this year in Lancaster.


Mrs. Bumgarner is survived by a son, David Bumgarner of Sparks, Nevada; two brothers, Lloyd and Dell Rogers; a alster, Beatrice Healer, all of Texas; and 6 grandchildren, four of them of Sparks, Nevada and 2 in North Carolina.


A son, Jay, preceded his parents in death in 1973.


Julia M. Christensen


A funeral mass was celebrated Monday, Sept. 17 at St. Jude's Parish Church for Julia M. Christensen of Wofford Heights. Officiating at the mass and at the rosary held Sunday evening was Reverend Monsignor Denis J. Doherty, pastor of St. Jude's. Mrs. Christensen passed away Sept. 13 at Kern Valley Hospital, Mt. Mesa.


She is survived by her husband Anton of Wofford Heights; daughters Violet Goergen of Wofford Heights, Lillian Houchin of Wofford Heights, Frances Papp of Livonia, Michigan; brothers John and George Caskey, both of Pennsylvania; sister Joan Sakera of Warren, Ohlo; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.


Born July 1, 1898 in Pottstown, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, Julia Mary Christensen was 86 years of age. Interment at Kern River Valley Cemetery.

Earl E. Hart


Funeral services for Earl Edwin Hart were held Thursday, Sept. 20, 2 p.m. in the Church of the Nazarene, Lake Isabella, with the Rev. Oren Ice officiating.


Mr. Hart died at his home In Lake Isabella. He was 70 years of age.


Mr. Hart was born Aug. 5, 1914 in West Union, Il. He had been a resident of California since moving to Ridgecrest in 1954. While in Ridgecrest he was employed as a mechanical engineering technician on the B-1 range until his retirement in 1972, when he moved to Lake Isabella.


He was an active member of the Nazarene Church of Lake Isabella, and with the Coast Guard Auxiliary helping patrol Lake Isabella for many years, and working closely with the patrol officers.


Mr. Hart is survived by his wife, Vera (Betty) Hart; sons Terry Hart of Vincennes, Ind., Gene Hart of Ridgecrest, and David Vaughan of Lander, Wyo .; daughter Myrna Brown, Vincennes, Ind .; mother-in- law Ida Martin of Ridgecrest; eight grandchildren and two great-


grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 28, 2 p.m., at Valley Mortuary Chapel for Vernon H. "Jack" Weeks of Onyx. Mr. Weeks passed away Sept. 21 at Huntington Memorial Hospital, Pasadena, after a long illness.


He is preceded in death by his wife Alice, deceased in September, 1973, and survived by his daughter and son-in-law Margaret and Ollie Farinholt of La Canada; grandson Neal Farinholt of San Deigo; great- grandchildren Rhett and Tara Farinholt, also of San Diego; nieces Syble Graham and Hazel Bussell, both of Oklahoma.


Mr. Weeks was a member of the Kern River Valley Eagles Lodge and had been a resident of the Kern River Valley since 1965.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Oct. 2 at Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella, for Salena McDonald of Wofford Heights. Officiating was Pastor Jerry Ruff of the Foursquare Gospel Church of Wofford Heights. Mrs. McDonald passed away Sept. 29 at Mercy Hospital, BAkersfield.


She is survived by her husband, W.C. "Bill" McDonald of Wofford Heights; daughter and son-in-law Pam and George Cook of Wofford Heights; daughter Lee Orrick of Kernville; brothers Chester Jackson of Clovis, New Mexico, Leslie Jackson of Spokane, Washington; sisters Edith Criswell of Los Banos, Ca., Eula Chandler of Madera, Ca., and grandchildren Christina and Candice Cook of Wofford Heights.

Harold J. Primeau Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Sept. 27 at St. Jude's Parish Church, Wolford Heights, for Harold J. Primeau of Wofford Heights.


Officiating at the mass of Christian burial was Reverend Monsignor Denis J. Doherty, pastor of St. Jude's. Mr. Primeau passed away Sept. 25 st Kern Medical Center, Bakersfield.

Earl E. Hart


Funeral services for Earl Edwin Hart were held Thursday, Sept. 20, 2 p.m. in the Church of the Nazarene, Lake Isabella, with the Rev. Oren Ice officiating.


Mr. Hart died at his home in Lake Isabella. He was 70 years of age.

Vern Hower


A graveside funeral service wus conducted at the Kern River Valley Cemetery on Friday, Oct. 5, for Vern M. Hower of Wofford heights.


Officiating was Rev. John Zincke, associate pastor of the First Baptist Church, Lake Isabella. Hower passed away Oct. J at the Kem Valley Hospital.


He is survived by his wife, Alice, Wofford Heights; & son and daughter-in-law Jerry and Betty Moore of Granada Hills, Grandson Tim Moore of Palmdale, grandson Ron Moore of Canoga Park, great- grandson Ryan Michael Moore of Palmdale, sisters Bernice Norris of Edmond, Okla., Dariene Marker of Bartlett, Neb., and Maxine Pope. One brother, Art, resides In Petersburgh, Vir.


Hower was a WW II veteran of the U.S. Army who served with the 820th tank destroyer batallion in the Ardennes and central Europe wbere be was awarded the bronse star. He wu a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Kern River Valley Post 7605.


Born Jan. 29, 1917, in Elgin, Neb., Vernon Alvin Mont Hower was 67. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary of Lake Isabella. Military honors rendered by Kern Valley Veterans Council and VFW Post 7665.


Marion "Smitty" Smith A funeral service was conducted at Memorial Chapel of Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier, for Marion "Smitty" Smith of Mt. Mesa. Officiating were officers of American Legion Post 465, Clyde Hager Post of Bell Gardens.


Smith passed away suddenly on the morning of Oct. 8.

He is survived by his wife, Marjean of Onyz, daughters Marcha Tesdahl of La Puente, Barbara Anderson of Lancaster, Motber Frona B. Gooden of Ohio, datert Margaret Taylor, Doris Kendall and Cleo Gooden, all of Oblo, three grandchildren, Jeffrey Micbelle and Richard.


Gooden was a WW UI veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps and a member of the Kern Valley Moose Lodge No. 400.

Edward E. Busby


Edward Eugene Busby, born October 23, 1920 in Caddo, Oklahoma, died October 11, 1804 in Wodford Heights, California.


He is a veteran of World War II, serving H months in the U.S. Air Force as a crew member of the B-24 bomber.


La 1911 be started a teaching career at Robinson Elementary School which wu interrupted temporarily by bis service in the Air Force. He resumed his teaching carter serving us teacher, coach and sobool administrator. He taught at White Sand School (tour milles sust of Bennington), Peberworth, Matoy, Caney and Utics. Ho received bis Bachelor of Arts degree trom Southeastern State College in 1946 and his Master of Science degrw trom Austin College, Sherman, Texas, in 1961. In 1964 Ja came to Callfornia where he has redded until his death. He worked for the Kern County Agriculture Commissioner until bis retirement In October of 1971. While working for Kern County be beiped originate a new seed growing project boom u the California Crop Improvement Association.


Ed belonged to several fraternal, military and civic organizations such as charter member of the Ellus Lodge, charter member of Eagles, Moose Lodge, Independent Order of Oddfellows, Kern Valley Golf Club, American Legion, Life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7666, Lions Club and member of board of trustees, Kern Valley Cemetery. In addition, Ed wus a M2nd degree Mason and a member of the El Segundo Rod and Gun Club.


He is survived by his wife, Alice, of the Wofford Heights address; three brothers, John L. Busby of Hurst, Tezas, Thomas J. Busby of Delano, Calif., and Jerry Busby of Caddo, Oklahoma; two sisters, Frankie Cloyd of Durant, Oklahoma and Gaylena Love of Caddo, Oklahoma; three step-sons, Herb Potarı of Lake Lasbella, Glen Poters of Wasto, and Bob Miller, of Wasco; and nine step-grandchildren. He U preceeded in death by his parents, Tillman and Roma Leo Armstrong Busby.

Sasan Mary O'Mara


Susan Mary O'Mara, daughter of Phyllis McMurry of Kernville, died Oct. I, 1MM at Fromno. She was born Nov. 20, 1948 in Weymouth, Mans.


She is survived by three brothers, Michael O'Mara of Tacoma, Wash., James O'Mara of Carmichael, and Peter O'Mara of Yellville, Art; and one sister, Jane White of Chandler, Oklahoma.


A memorial mass was said on Friday, Oct. 12 at St. Jude's Church in Wolford Belghts by Monsignor Dents Doherty.


Interment was at San Diego in Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.

John L. Wheeler of Onyx passed away Oct. 13 at Kern Valley Boapttal, Mt. Meme. He is survived by his wife Sadie of Onyx.


Private cremation was held at Union Cemetery Association Crematory of Bakersfield Mr. Whesler's ashes will be scattered in the Pacific Ocean near Point Fermin by bis family.

Arthur L. Sidell, Sr.


Arthur L. Sidell, Sr., 79, of Wakeman, Oblo, passed away Sept. 4, 1901 at H.B. Magruder Hospital, Port Clinton, Oblo.


Sidell has spent the winter months for the last atx years ta the Kern River Valley, Hving with his steter, Mae Lamidin of Karuville. Be will be remembered by the mary tricode be made bere for bits love of fisting.


Be was a member of Fraternal Order of Police of Norwalk, Oblo; Wellington Emergency Service and a life member of Radio Affiliated Team Patrol of Huron County in Obo, known as "Rat Patrol." He was a retired farmer.

JOHN L. WHEELER


John Leonard Wheeler of Onyx passed away at Kern Valley Hospital on October 13, 1984. He is survived by his wife, Sadie Alice Wheeler; a daughter, Jaaqueline L. Beltner; a sister, Mrs. Frank Clark; five grandchildren; three nephews and two nieces. Mr. Wheeler was a long-time employee of the Colorado Department of Highways, beginning in the late 1920's. He took leave of absence during World War II to work for Boeing Aircraft Company. After the war, he returned to the highway department.


He was a charter member of the National Society of Reproduction Engineers. As a sports car enthusiast, he was a charter member of Colorado Association of Motorsportamen (CAMS), a charter member of Rocky Mountain Porsche Club of America (PCA), and a member of the Denver Sportscar Club. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association. Upon retirement, he spent several years sailing off the south coast of Texas where he became a member of the Coast Guard Auxillary, serving as flotilla vice commander before coming to California in 1980. Graveside services were held at the Kern River Valley Cemetery at 11 a.m., Oct. 30 for John E. Price, 68, who passed away Oct. 26 at Kern Valley Hospital.


Rev. Donald Roulsten officiated.


Price was born in old Kernville on July 13, 1916 and resided here all his Life, except 4 years during World War II, when he served in the Marshall Islands.


He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.


Survivors include two daughtera, Sharon Greenwood, Bakersfield, Nancy Price of Kernville; sons Jack, Jim and Nick Price of Kernville; one sister, Elsie Lenhart, Bakersfield; two brothers, Dick Price of Fresno and Delmar Price of Aubery; seven grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Lars Haaland of Bodfish passed away Oct. 28 at Kern Valley Hospital, Mt. Mesa. He is survived by his wife, Josephine of Bodfish; daughter Eileen Balue of El Monte; son Eugene of Long Beach; two grandchildren and eight great. grandchildren.


One brother, Torbjorn Haaland resides in Norway. Mr. Haaland was retired from Mobil Oil Corp., and was a U.S. Navy veteran of W. W. II.

She is survived by her daughters Mary Lou Little of Riverkern, Reba Starkey of Bakersfield, Irene Clark of Newhall; sons Glen M. Keller of Costa Mesa, Robert Keller of Riverside; 19 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.


Mrs. Ferguson had been a member of the Assembly of God Church in Wofford Helghts.


Born October 30, 1890 in Newark, Arkansas, Mary Elizabeth Ferguson was 94 years of age.

OBITUARY


Ed Harris


A funeral service was conducted Friday, Nov. 2 at Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella, for Edward T. Harris of Wofford Heights. Officiating was Pastor Jim McGhee of the Kernville United Methodist Church and officers of Kern River Valley Masonic Lodge No. 827. Mr. Harris passed away at Ridgecrest Community Hospital, Ridgecrest, on Oct. 30.


He is survived by his wife Marcella of Wofford Heights; son Earl Harris of San Clemente; daughter Bonnie Mckenna of Huntington Beach; nieces Dorris Brown of Denver, Mildred Cakek of Visalia and two grandchildren.


Ed Harris had been a Mason for more than 54 years. He was a member of the Kern River Valley Lodge No. 827 and had served us lodge secretary since Its founding 14 years ago. He was also a member of the Al Makiakah Lodge of the Shrine of Los Angeles, the Bakersfield Scottish Rite Bodies, York Rite Bodies of Kernville, and the DeMolay and Eastern Star, both for more than 50 years.


Ed was also a member of Kernville United Methodist Church. Born Dec. 16, 1906 in Queens, Queens County, New York, Edward Thomas Harris was 77 years of age. Interment at Kern River Valley Cemetery. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary, Lake Isabella.

Gussie Lee Hoyer


A funeral service was conducted Wed., Nov. 14 at Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier, Ca., for Gussie Lee Hoyer of Lake Isabella. Mrs. Hoyer passed away Nov. 9 at Kern Valley Hospital, Mt. Mesa.


She is survived by her sons, Dub of Lake Isabella, Bob of Bakersfield; one grandson, and ux great- grandchildren. Mrs. Hoyer had lived for the past eight years in Kern County and prior to that had resided in the Long Beach area for 29 years.


Born Dec. 15, 1897 in Texas, Gussie . Lee Hoyer was 86 years of age Interment at Rose Hills Memorial park, Whittier. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.


William Krill


William Krull of Myrtle Creek, Oregon passed away at Kern Valley Hospital, Mt. Mesa, on Nov. 9.


He is survived by his wife Medora of Myrtle Creek and brother Henry J. Krill of Bodfish.


Funeral services for William Krill were conducted Monday, Nov. 12 at Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella. Officiating was Rev Timothy Anderson, pastor of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Lake Isabella.


Born Feb. 15, 1918 in Montrose. Colorado, William Krill was 66 years of age.

Jane W. Tucker


Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 12 at Valley Mortuary Chapel for Jane W Tucker of Lake Isabella. The Reverend David Snow of First Baptist Church of Lake Isabella officiated.


Mrs. Tucker passed away on Nov. 8 at her residence.


She is survived by her husband Robert A. Tucker of Lake Isabella; daughter Sandra J. Davis of Whittier, CA .; son Robert W. Tucker of Kennewick. Wa., and one grandson, Robert L. Tucker, also of Kennewick.
