Mrs. Hayes passed away June 22, at home in Lake Isabella.


She is survived by her son Joe P. Hayes, Jr. of Lake Isabella; daughter Annabelle Hayes of Lake Isabella; sisters Margaret Fletcher of San Leandro. Francis Skeen also of San Leandro and three grandchildren.


Mrs. Hayes was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary Interment at the Kern Valley Cemetery

A memorial service was held June 26 at the Masoruc Temple in Kernville for ECcho Anna Law who died June 17.


Echo Anna Law was born to Thomas and Sarah Law in San Jacinto on April 5, 1891


Internment was held June 20 in the Inglewood Cemetery in Inglewood. Mrs. Law was 95.

VINCENT W. MARCY, SR.


A funeral service was conducted Thursday June 26 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella for Vincent W. Marcy, Sr. of Mt. Mesa. Officiating was Rev. Duane Splawn Pastor of the Kern River Valley Christian Church, Southlake.


Mr. Marcy passed away June 22 at home after illness.


He is survived by his wife Lorraine of Mt. Mesa; son and daughter in law Vincent, Jr. and Mary Ellen of Mt. Mesa; son and daughter in law Brian and Mary Alice also of Mt. Mesa. daughter Anita Fagin of Beaverton, Oregon and eight grandchildren. Vince Marcy served with the U.S. army during WWII in Europe and the Pacific.


During the last several years, he and his son Vince Jr. operated Marcy Insurance of Mt. Mesa. Born Dec 24, 1915 in Portland Oregon, Vincent Walter Marcy, Sr. was 70.


Interment at the Kern River Valley Cemetery .


GUY C. SMITH


Guy C. Smith of Lake Isabella passed away July 2 in Mt. Mesa. He is survived by his daughter Aileen Swan of Kernville; sister Lorena Bell of Weldon; brother Frank Smith of California; two grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.


Born Aug. 31, 1904 in Colorado, Guy Clayton Smith was 81.

A funeral service was conducted graveside at the Kern River Valley Cemetery on July 9 for Walt Lackey of Bodfish. Officiating was Rev. Ann Grandy of Bodfish.


Mr. Lackey passed away July 2. He is survived by his wife Sally of Bodfish; mother Dorothy of Lake Isabella; son Terry of Bakersfield; daughters Nancy and Vickie of California; brothers Gary of Wofford Heights, Kenneth of Westminster, Richard of Bakersfield, Jay of Garden Grove and one sister Barbara McCann of Simi Valley.


Born Feb. 11, 1929 in Los Angeles, Walter W. Lackey was 57.

FRANCES M. DOUGLAS


Frances M. Douglas died July 6 at the Hilltop Convalescent Hospital in Bakersfield. As requested, there will be no services.


Mrs. Douglas came to Kernville area and was a school teacher at the old school in Kernville and at Woodrow Wallace Elementary School in Lake Isabella. She taught from 1951 until retiring in 1969. She started teaching school upon graduation from U.C. Berkeley.


She has many friends in the Kern Valley and many students who remember her with fondness.

OBITUARY


FRED MAAS


A memorial service was conducted Tuesday July 15 at Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella for Fred Maas of Southlake. Officiating were jofficers of Kern River Valley Chapter 54 of the Disabled American Veterans of which Mr. Maas was past commander.


He is survived by his wife Velma of Southlake; daughter and son in law Arlene and David McKnight of Squirrel Valley and granddaughter Whitney MeKnight of Bakersfield.


Fred Maas served with the U.S. Army Engineers during WW II. He went ashore on Omaha Beach during the Normandy invasion and fought in Northern France, the Ardennes Forest and the Rhineland.


Following WWII, he worked as an operating engineer and was active in Veterans affairs serving as Commander of Disabled American Veterand 54 District as well as Chapter 54. In addition to DAV, Fred was a member of American Legion KRV Post 711 and VFW KRV Pust 7665.


Born Nov. 30, 1907 in Dubuque, Iowa, Fred John Maas was 78.

ROBERT O. BLOCK


Robert Oliver Block passed away June 15 in Phoenix, Arizona. Born October 6, 1919 in DeSmet, South Dakota. He was buried in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.


Mr. Block was a former resident of the Kern Valley, and lived in Wofford Heights from 1981 and 1985. He was known to his C.B. radio friends as 'Dirty Rat".


He is survived by his wife Ruth of Lake Havasu City, AZ.


HAROLD BERNARD KIMLEY


Memorial services were held on Friday, July 11 at the United Methodist Church in Ridgecrest for Harold Bernard Kimley, 79, who passed away July 7 at the Kern Medical Center, Bakersfield as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on June 12.


Kimley was born Oct. 11, 1906, in Buffalo, New York. He retired from the Naval Weapons Center in China Lake in 1971 with 25 years of federal service and had resided in Lake Isabella since retirement.


- Survivors wielude his wife, Marjorie Kimley of Lake Isabella; a son William Kimley of San Francisco; daughter Juan McKernan of Ridgecrest; one bruther, Herbert Kimley of Williamsville, New York; two granddaughters Donna Smith of Ridgecrest and De Anne McKernan of Santa Barbara and one great grandson.


ADA E. HAUBRICH


A graveside service was conducted Wednesday, July 16 at the Kern River Valley Cemetery for Ada Haubrich of Wofford Heights. Officiating was Pastor Bill Gibson.


Mrs. Haubrich died July 13 at her residence in Wofford Heights.


She is preceded in death by her husband Arthur in 1980 and survived by her sons John Hamilton of Kentucky; Otis Hamilton of Kentucky; daughter Mary and son-in- Jaw Frank Willin of Wofford Heights; five grandchildren, six great grand children and one great, great grandchild.

A graveside funeral service was conducted Monday, July 14 at the Evergreen Cemetery mn La Verne, for Arthur C. Dailey of fake Isabella. Mr. Dailey passed away July 10 in Bakersfield


He is preceded in death by his wife Hazel and two suns Graydon and Rex.


Mr. Dailey is survived by his daughter and son in law Allegra and Ralph Hogan of Lake Isabella, seven grand cluldren and 10 great- grandeintdich


Arthur Dailey worked as an auto mechanic most of his life in the La Verne-Pomona area. He moved to Lake Isabella in 1979.

At the request of the deceased's family, there will be no funeral Services and cremation was private in the Mish Funeral Home


Crematorium with his ashes being buried at a later date for Richard L. Vance. 77 of Lake Isabella who died June 24 in a Bakersfield Convalescent Hospital after a long illness. He was a native of Kentucky and had lived in Lake Isabella for the past 15 years and was a cab driver for the Valley Cab. Co. for the past six years. He is survived by his wife Erver Vance of Lake Isabella; sons Leslie L. Vance of Montrose, and Richard Vance Jr. of Los Angeles; daughters, Jeannette Lewis of Pasadena and Dorothy Klink of Louisville; two brothers Roy Vance, Merle Vance, both of Louisville, Kentucky; sister Bernice of Louisville; 8 grand children and 2 great grandchildren. Centurian Memorial Society was in charge of arrangements.

JESSIE C. WEAVER


Memorial services were held Wednesday, July 23 at St. Judes Church in Wofford Heights for Jessie Weaver who died July 17 in Washington.


Mrs. Weaver was preceded in death by her husband Clint. She is survived by a son, Anthony and daughter In law, Ann of Washington; two grandaughters Susan Martin of Loma Linda, Karen Dixon of Washington, two brothers, Walter Koontz of Indiana and William Koontz of Ohio and four great grandchildren.


Mrs. Weaver was current president of World War I Auxiliary, a member of NARFE, Kern Valley Gem and Mineral Society, and was an organist at St. Judes Church.

JAMES DEAN HENSTRA


James Dean Henstra passed away July 24 at the Spastic Children's Foundation facility in Sylmar following a brief bout with cancer. Prior to his illness, Jim had been a 13 year resident at the Spastic Children's Foundation facility In Chatsworth.


He was the youngest son of Jack and Luella, longtime residents of Lancaster and founders of the Antelope Valley Association for Retarded Children. He was born in 1951.


Survivors include his mother, Luella, now of Lake Isabella; two brothers, Jack, Jr. of Sacramento and Michael of Lake Isabella.


Graveside services were held Tuesday, July 29, 1986 at Joshua Memorial Park in Lancaster. Mumaw Funeral Home in Lancaster was in charge of arrangements.


In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made to the Desert Haven Center in Lancaster.


JANE W. BRAILO


A funeral service was conducted graveside at the Kern Valley Cemetery on July 23 for Jane Winifred Brailo of Kernville. Officiating was Pastor Jim McGhee of the Kernville United Methodist Church.


Mrs. Brailo died July 21 in Kernville. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Stephen Brailo of Kernville; daughters Judy Burns of Los Angeles; Janet Arlene May of Kernville; brother Roy Dahl of Nebraska; four grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Wednesday July 30 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel for Beulah Gwendolyn "Hall' Schrier of Lake Isabella. Officiating was Pastor Paul McWilliams of the United Methodist Church, Lake Isabella.


She is survived by her husband Fred Schrier of Lake Isabella; daughter Jolene Lema of Santa Clara, Maxine Smith of Lake Isabella, Georgia Beth Herald of Bakersfield; son J.L. Hall of Sacramento, 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, brother Luther and sister-in-law Dorothy Storme of Porterville.


Beulah Gwendolyn "Hall" Schrier was born in Herron, Illinois, March 29, 1902 and came to the Kern River Valley in 1939. She was 84. Interment will be at the Kern River Valley Cemetery. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.


ALVIN W. TOBERT


A memorial service was held Saturday, July 26 at 11 a.m. at he Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Mt. Mesa for Alvin Wilhelm Tobert. Officiating was Bishop Hinkey.


Mr. Tobert died July 22 in Mt. Mesa. He Is survived by his wife of 31 years, Beulah Tobert of So. Lake; son Martin Tobert of Utah, son Duane Tobert of Torrance, daughter Christian Lewis of Lancaster, sisters Betty Leafsted, of Wisconsin; Mabel Kalbunde, of Wisconsin; Gene Wilson of Florida; brother Martin Tobert of Wisconsis ; 22 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Stepsons Dale Ranney of Malibu, Dean Ranney of Long Beach.


Alvin Wilhelin Tobert was born in Wisconsin May 23, 1916. He was 70.

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Friday, Aug. 8 at the St. Jude Parish Catholic Church for Rebecca S. Lott of Bodfish. Celebrant of the mass was Rev. Monsignor Anthony Herdegen, Pastor of St. Jude Parish.


Mrs. Lott passed away Aug. 3 in Cochise County, Arizona from injuries austained in a motor vehicle accident near Benson. Arizona.


She is survived by her husband John N. Lott of Bodfish; sisters Ollta Romero and Juliette Bustos both of New Mexico; daughters Marjorie "Cissy" Clack and son in law William Clack of Whitter; daughter Linda Jo Smith of Pomona; daughter Alice Marle Drew and son in law Henry Drew of Hisperla; grandson Lomar Clack and wife Beth of Whittier and grandson John Drew of Hisperla.


Mrs. Lott had resided in the Kern Valley for the past eight years.


Born April 19, 1916 in Derry, New Mexico, Rebecca Salcido Lott was 70 years of age.

Services were held Aug. 4 at graveside at Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier for Tee Z. Morgan of Lake Isabella who passed away July 30.


Mrs. Morgan lived in California since 1922, she was formerly of Lynwood.


Mra. Morgan was the beloved mother of Wilfred A. Farley of Lake Isabella and Mrs. M. Farley Ball of Falls Church, Virginia. She is also survived by a sister, Grace Christen of Arkansas and 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Carl E. Jones, 61, resident of Wofford Heights died August 1 in Savannah, Tennessee.


Mr. Jones was born June 27, 1925 in Ohio.

A funeral service was conducted graveside at the Kern Valley Cemetery for Willard "Penny" Penrod of Lake Isabella on Saturday, Aug. 9. Officiating was the Kern Valley Veterans Council, Fred Dodds commander, Jesse Wright, chaplain.


Mr. Penrod passed away Aug. 5 at Mercy Hospital, Bakersfield.


He is preceded in death by his son Jack and survived by his wife, Bessie Estelle of Lake Isabella; daughters Frances of Lake Isabella, Sonjia of Anaheim, Diana of Anaheim; sons Guy of Michigan, Clyde of Garden Grove, Paul of Orange and Tom of California; two sisters Phyllis and Jeannie residing in Illinois, 22 grandchildren and many great- grandchildren.


Willard Penrod was an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII who served in the Phillipines, Okinawa and with the Occupation Troops in Japan. He was retired from McDonnel Douglas Corp.

Willis Devich of Bodfish passed away Aug. 14, in Bodfish.


He is preceded in death by his wife Nita and survived by daughters Victoria Starr and Dami

A funeral service was conducted Tuesday, Aug. 19 graveside at the Kern Valley Cemetery for Andrew J. "Andy" Townaend of Bodfish. Officiating was Jesse Wright with eulogy by Diane Muns. Mr. Townsend passed away Aug. 14 in Lake Isabella.


He is aurvived by brothers David D. Townsend of Lake Isabella, John Townsend of Sacramento, sisters Vita Gilbert of Bell, Nell Lord of Kittery. Maine, Hope Jessup of Conway: Arkansas, Ora Mathis of Dierks, Arkansas, nieces Dlane Muns of Lake Isabella, Shirley Waterbury of Ypsilanti, Michigan, nephew David Townsend, Jr. of Norwalk; great- niece and nephew Shaunna Mung and David Muns of Lake Isabella and many other nieces and nephews.


Andrew Townsend came to the Kern Valley in 1971 from Arkansas. He had worked as a plasterer since 1937.

Mrs. Anthony passed away Aug. 14 in Kernville.

her granddaughters Jackl Perry of Lake Isabella, Kimberly Roberts of Norwalk, brother W.T. Claunch of Texas, sisters Lena Collins of Texas, Opal Allred of Nevada and two great grandchildren.


Born March 29, 1915 in Johnson County, Texas, Arrie Dell Anthony was 71.

OBITUARY


ALFRED JAMES WARNER


Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 21 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church for Alfred James Warner, 67 of Lakeland Estates who died Aug. 18 in Mercy Hospital, Bakersfield after a long illness. Rev. Wayne Beebe and Rev. Arthur Dey officiated.


Burial and other services were held in the Elliott Funeral Home, Anthony, Kansas and burial was in the Mennonite Cemetery at Manchester, Oklahoma.


Mr. Warner was a native of


Dillworth, Oklahoma and had lived in California for over 20 years. He was a mechanic and bench electrician and was retired from Continental Airlines after 23 years of service.


He had lived in Lake Isabella for the past five years. He is a member of the Shephert of Hills Lutheran Church.


He is survived by he beloved and devoted wife, Erma Warner of Lakeland Estates; daughter Freyajean Stewart of Tulsa, Oklahoma and a son James Warner of Enid, Oklahoma and three grandchildren.


Mish Funeral Home, Oildale was in charge of arrangements.


JIMMIE ARMON ALBIN


Services were held Saturday morning at Valley Mortuary for Jimmie Armon Albin who passed away Aug. 18 in Downey Community Hospital.


Mrs. Albin was a resident of Wofford Heights for the past 20 years. She and her husband, Bert Albin ran Shell gas station and body shop in Bodfish for 17 years. She was a member of the CB club, and known as "Fenderskirt".


Born in Lancaster, Texas on Feb. 10, 1910 Jimmie Armon Albin was 76. Mrs. Albin is survived by her daughter Billie Jean Hawthorne of Downey, 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

OBITUARY


WILLIAM E. GRAVES


Memorial services were held Saturday, August 16 at the Kern River Cemetery for William E. Graves who passed away Aug. 7 at Queen of the Valley Hospital.


Mr. Graves is survived by his wife, Nells Graves, of Bakersfield; daughters Geraldine Sherer and Betty Monroe of Napa and son, Harold J. Maxwell of Kentucky.


He is also survived by four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.


Born August 26, 1900 in Kansas, William Graves was 85 years. He was born in Kansas and moved to Idaho with his family where he completed his high school education. In 1922, Mr. Graves moved to Los Angeles and worked for Southern California Edison Co. as a lineman. He became a crew foreman in 1949 and retired in 1965. He was a resident of the Kern River Valley for over 50 years. He came to Napa two weeks ago to be closer to his daughters where he became ill.


Mr. Graves was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed camping and traveling in his trailer. He was a member and past President of the Kern Valley Fish and Game Association.

Virginia Anson of Lake Isabella passed away Aug. 18 at Memorial Hospital in Bakersfield.


She is survived by her husband ('lark of Lake Isabella and one brother, Milton Thomas of Ridgecrest
