OBITUARY


HENRY WILLIAM DRENNAN


A rosary and Mass were celebrated on Jan. 30 by Msgr. Anthony G. Herdegen, Pastor of St. Jude's Catholic Church for Henry William Drennan who passed away at Kern Valley Hospital on the morning of Jan. 27.


Interment followed in San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Mission Hills.


Mr. Drennan was born in Glasgow, Scotland on June 18, 1906. He resided in Massachusetts and New York before noving with his family to California in 1944. He was a resident of Weldon since 1981. He was 79 at the time of his death. Mr. Drennan is survived by his wife of 44 years, Edith; sister Moira Fischner of Glendale; daughters Iris Saxon of Santa Clara and Patricia Frender of Squirrel Valley; grandchildren Richard and David Bedel of Santa Clara and Michael Dawn and Randy Frender of Squirrel Valley; great grandson Nicholas Bedel.

A graveside funeral service was conducted Tuesday, Feb. 4 at the Kern River Valley cemetery, Wofford Heights for Norma Fulford of Weldon. Officiating was Pastor Robble Robinson of the Southern Baptist Church, Weldon.


Mrs. Fulford passed away Jan. 31 at the Kern Valley Hospital in Mt. Mesa.


She is survived by her husband, James Fulford of Weldon; sons Ted Blackman of Spokane; Doug Blackman of Palmdale, Mike Blackman of Palmdale; daughters Patty Forde of Yorba Linda, Janice Slack of Indiana; sisters Nora Corken of Weldon, Nita Martin of Palmdale; brother Chuck Etzel of Los Angeles, 12 grand children and one great- grandchild.

A funeral service was conducted Wednesday, Feb. 5 at the Mt. View


Southern Baptist Church, Lake Isabella for Connie Hall of Bakersfield formerly of Bodfish. Officiating was Dr. Jerry Corbaley , pastor and Jack Jones, former pastor. Vocal . music was rendered by Lisa Jones.


Connie Hall is survived by his wife of 30 years. Mary of Bakersfield; parents Marlin and Doris Hall of Lake Isabella; son Chuck of Bakersfield; daughters Becca Lynn of Bakersfield; Susan Hall of Bakersfield; brother Ray Hall of Bodfish; sister, Norma Hall of Lake Isabella; grandsons Trevor and Mason Hall, both of Bakersfield.


Connie Hall was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Germany. He was a member of the Lions Club and had resided in the Kern Valley for 12 years before moving to Bakersfield. Connie was the operator of Wofford Heights Market for many years. Born Jan. 5, 1933 in Ardmore, Oklahoma, Connie Mach Hall was 53 years.

TOMMY GILBERT


Thomas F. Gilbert of Bodfish passed away Feb. 6 at the Kern Valley Hospital. Mt. Mesa.


He is survived by his brother V.A. Gilbert of Texas and friends Tom and Beverly Klein of Lake Isabella.


Thomas Gilbert was a veteran of WW II.


Born Oct. 30. 1902 in Texas, Thomas Floyd "Tommy" Gilbert was 83.


A memorial service for Tommy will be conducted Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Kern River Valley Cemetery, Wofford Heights. Officiating will be officers of the Kern River Valley Veterans Council.

Hilda R. Head of Wofford Heights passed away Feb. 5 at the Kern Valley Hospital. Mt. Mesa.


She is survived by her daughter Neysa Dixon of Wofford Heights; seven grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren.


Mrs. Head resided in the Kern River Valley for the past nine years. Born Oct. 29. 1910 in Oklahoma. Hilda Roxanne Head was 75.

A funeral service was conducted Monday Feb. 10 at the First Baptist Church. Lake Isabella for Georgia Truex of Lake Isabella. Officiating was Rev. David Snow. Pastor.


Mrs. Truex passed away Feb. 6 at the Garfield Medical Center .. Monterey Park


She is preceded in death by her husband Frank Truex, deceased Jan. 1985 and survived by her nephew and niece Ed and Willie Thomas of Rosemead; nephew and niece Ren and Shirley Thomas of Temple City; daughters in law. Darlene Rajatsky and Linda Lauckhardt: great nephews and nieces Randy and Jeanme. Craig and Sherry and Dennis Thomas of Rosemead and great-great niece Ashley Tomas of Rosemead.


Georgia Truex was a member of Post 711 American Legion Auxiliary and the C.B. Club. Her C.B. handle was "Photo Gal."


Born Feb. 24. 1910 in Allegheny County. Pennsylvania, Georgia Pauline Truex was 75.

A funeral service was conducted Tuesday Feb. 11 at the First Baptist Church, Lake Isabella for Mildred G. Salyer of Bakersfield, formerly of Lake Isabella. Officiating was Rev. David Snow, Pastor.


Mrs. Salyer passed away Feb. 6 at the Kern Valley Hospital. Mt. Mesa.


She is survived by her husband of 43 years. Al Salyer of Bakerfield; son Bob Salyer of Lake Isabella: son Danny Salyer of Napa: daughter Sharon Heffner of Napa; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.


Mrs. Salyer served as a corporate officer in the management of the Isabella Super Market.


Born Jan. 26. 1913 in Missouri. Mildred Salyer was 73.

Officiating will be Pastor James Lee of the Nazarene Church Lake Isabella. Mrs. Larson passed away Feb. 24 at the Arvin Care Center. She is preceded in death by her husband Carl Larson and survived by her brother Clarenece Johnson of Arkansas and sister Lorine Radke of Iowa.

Graveside services were held Feb. 14 in Hillcrest Memorial Park for Clyde Marion LaCoss, 84. who died Feb. 8 in Lake Isabella


The Kern River Valley Lodge No. 827 Free and Accepted Masons officiated.


Mr. LaCoss was born in Little Blue. Missouri, Oct. 25. 1901. He had been an operating engineer for over 22 years with Griffith Construction. He was a member of the Kern River Valley Lodge No. 827 Free and Accepted Masons. the Al Malaikah Temple of Los Angeles, A & A Scottish Rite of Free Masonry and the Bakersfield Scottish Rite.


He is survived by his wife of 63 years. Nora of Lake Isabella; son, Bill LaCoss of Dallas, Texas; daughters, Lois Forrest of Arvin and Melba June Oliver of Ceres; brother. Henry L.aCoss of Hobbs. New Mexico: son- in-law, Ralph Forrest of Arvin; 8 grandchildren; great 11 grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

A private cremation service was held for A. Willis Plants of Kelso Valley who died Feb. 12 at his home.


He was born May 19, 1896 in So. Dakota. He was 89 years.


Mr. Plants was a slide trombone bandsman and served in the Iowa National Guard.


He is survived by his wife, Agnes of Kelso Valley; sons Ronald Plants of Yuba City, Richard Plants of Fullerton and Charles Plants of Marysville: 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.


He was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church of Inglewood

A funeral service was conducted Friday, Feb. 21 at the Masonic


Temple in Palmdale for Charles Boyd "Mac" Mac Elfresh of Wofford Heights. Officiating were officers Palmdale Lodge No. 769 F&AM. Mr. Mac Elfresh passed away Feb. 16 at the U.S. Veterans Administration Medical Center., West Los Angeles. He is survived by his wife, Yue Ping "Ann" Mac Elfresh of Wofford Heights; sons Michael and Patrick of Palmdale; brothers Herbert Earl of Texas; Will Fredrick of Arkansas and J. B. Mac Elfresh of Arizona and sister Betty Cavin of Salt Lake City, four grandchildren, Casey , Jeffrey Jonathan and Bryan all of Palmdale. Mr. Mac Elfresh was a WW II Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a member of the Ashlar Lodge No.306 Free and Accepted Masons. Charles Mac Elfresh had retired from Northrop Corporation before moving to the Kern Valley. Born June 9, 1920, in Afton, Ottawa County, Oklahoma, Charles Boyd "Mac" MacElfresh was 65. Interment at the Kern River Valley Cemetery where graveside services were conducted by officers of Kern Valley Lodge No. 827 F and AM.

Dwade Irene Perry of Weldon passed away Feb. 15 at Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield.


She is preceded in death by her two sons, Argus and Bob Jr. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Robert and two daughters Erma Perry and Patricia Berry of Weldon; two sisters, Opal Watts of Oklahoma and Beverly Genge of La Jolla; three brothers, Pete Duke of Bakersfield, Nell Duke of Corona and Keet Duke of Fremont; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.


Mrs. Perry was a resident of Weldon for 18 years.

Mr. Kinney passed away March 1 at the Kern Valley Hospital.


He is survived by his brother C.E. Kinney of Grass Valley; sisters Hope Vincent of Lake Isabella, Donna George of Azusa and many nieces and nephews


Mr. Kinney was a U.S. Ariny veteran of WW 11 who served in central Europe and the Rhineland and a member of the VFW.

Mr. Horney passed away Feb. 21 at the San Joaquin Hospital In Bakersfield.


He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Edith of Lake Isabella; 3 sons, Richard of Lakewood, Ray of Arizona, Roy of Ontarlo; daughter Loretta, Huntington Beach; 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Evsabe Whitaker, Paso Robles and Jennie McCulloch, Colorado Springs.


Mr. Horney was retired from private business and had been in care at Hilltop Convalescent Hospital for the past nine months.


Calvin Clair Horney was born Sept. 3, 1900 at Des Moins, Iowa. He came to California in 1922 and moved to Lake Isabella in 1968.

Graveside services were held Friday, Feb. 28 at Hillcrest Memorial Park for William Lawrence Phillips 64, Onyx who passed away Feb. 22 in Lake Isabella.


Mr Phillips was born March 4, 1921 in Somerton, Arizona.

Funeral services were held at Mish Funeral Home, Oildale for Katie Florence Townsend, 100 of Lake Isabella who died March 1, in a Bakersfield Convalescent Hospital after a long illness. Rev. Marvin Kilgore officiated. Graveside services followed at Rose Hills Cemetery, Friday at 2 p.m.with Rev. Paul D. Uhlar officiating. Mrs. Townsend was a native of Bynum-, Texas and had lived in the Kern Valley since 1978, She had been a homemaker her adult life. She is survived by her son, Clarence Townsend of Lake Isabella; grandsons, Joe Wilson of Walker Basin, Orville Townsend of Lynwood, Ernie R. Townsend of Bell Gardens. and Doyle J. Townsend of Covina; grandaughter, Yvonne Townsend of Anaheim; great grandsons Rick Wilson of Walker Basin, Dave Wilson of Paris, France, Neil Ritter of Ft. Eugene Emerson Cook of Wofford Heights passed away March 5 at Wadsworth Hospital in Los Angeles.


Born Sept. 7, 1922 in Delano, he is survived by his wife, Muriel Cook of Wofford Heights; brothers Chris Cook of Culver City, Harry Cook of Escondido; sisters Esther Amen of Los Angeles, Phyllis Dempsey of Redondo Beach; daughters Cheryl, Susan and Diane; son Ronnie and five step children Cher, Cathy, Karon, Debi and Michael.


Mr. Cook also had nine grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.


An Army WW II vet, Mr. Cook was a carpenter for more than 30 years. He was ill for the past several years.

Mr. Hein passed away March 15 at his residence in Southlake.

Mr. Hein was a member of Moose Lodge No. 498 of the Kern River Valley and a member of the Shrine Club.

John Earl Hogan of Lake Isabella passed away March 14 at the Hilltop Convalescent Hospital, Bakersfield.


He Is survived by his wife Edna of Lake Isabella and daughter Janyce Andrade of Lake Isabella.


Born July 20, 1912 in Texas, John E. Hogan was 73.

A short memorial service was conducted on Wednesday, March 12 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Granada Hills for Lorraine Gwendolyn Fanning who passed away March 7 at Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills after an extended bout with cancer.


She is survived by her husband, Don Fanning of Wofford Heights; son Don Brian; daughter Kathleen Shawn Fanning, both of Van Nuys.


Mrs. Fanning was a new resident of the Kern Valley but was very fond of the area.


Born May 8, 1929, Lorraine Gwendolyn Fanning was 56.

A funeral service was conducted March 19 graveside at the Valhalla Memorial Park, North Hollywood for Willliam Crane Mc Intosh of Lake Isabella. officiating was Joel Astor of the Valley Mortuary staff.


Mr. Mc Intosh passed away March 16 at his residence.


He is survived by his wife, Rudell of Lake Isabella.


Mr. Mc Intosh was a WW II Veteran of the U.S. Army and served with the air corps


Born Oct. 11, 1906 in Mc Intosh, Oklahoma, Willliam C. Mc Intosh was 79.


RUSSELL JOSEPH BINNS


Russell Joseph Binns of Kernville passed away Monday, March 10 st Kern Valley Hospital after a short Illness.


Binns had been a resident of the Kern Valley since 1966. He worked as a lineman for Southern California Edison until his retirement in 1970.


Following his retirement, he operated a horse camp at Horse Meadows for over ten years.


Mr. Binns is preceded in death by his wife Grace, deceased June 1, 1985.


He is aurvived by daughters Ruth Benson of Kernville; Ginger Binns, Newhall and son, Tim Binns of Ridgecrest; grandchildren Alan Currie, Ridgecrest; James Currie, Grand Junction, MI; Sandra Currie, Newhall; Ruth Skelly, Sylmar; Hank Twilt, Newhall; Todd Binns, Costa Mesa; Brad Binns, Ridgecrest; Cory Binns, Ridgecrest and Karmen Brassfield, Newhall; great grandchildren, Adam and Angela Currie of Michigan; Krystal and Ruth Skelly of Sylmar.


Born August 3, 1905 in Michigan, Russell Joseph Binns was 80.

Mr. Kley passed away March 17 at the Kern Valley Hospital, Mt. Mesa.

Born May 1, 1912 m Westmoreland. Pennsylvania, Joseph Carl Kley was 73.

CONRAD B. "RED" COX


A funeral service was conducted graveside at the Park Lawn Cemetery Los Angeles for Conrad B. "Red" Cox of Lake Isabella. Oficiating was Terrie Marden of the Assembly of God Church, Bell Gardens.


Mr. Cox pased away March 19 at the Kern Valley Hospital, Mt. Mesa.


He is survived by his wife, Clara of Lake Isabella, stepson Tom Largent of los Angeles; one sister, Inez Bell of Pico Rivera.


Mr. Cox was a member of the Moose and the L'agles.


Born July 14, 1914 in Arkansas, Conrad Boyce "Ked" Cox was 71.

OBITUARY


FRANCES CRANE


A funeral service was conducted Friday, March 21 at the Valley Mortuary Chapet, Lake Isabella for Frances Crane of Kernville. Officialing was Rev. James McGhee. Pastor of the United Methodist Church, Kernville.


Mrs. Crane passed away March 18 at Kern Valley Hospital.


She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Richard "Dick" Crane of Kernville; son David Crane of California; brothers J.B. Singley of Florida; Ted Singley and Jerry Singley both of California: sister Peggy Stephens of Kentucky; three grandchildren and 3 great- grandchild.


Born April 13, 1916 in Jackson, Georgia, Mary Frances Crane was 69.

OBITUARY


FLORENCE L. VAUGHAN


Services were held March 24 at the First Baptist Church in Lake Isabella, for Florence Leola Vaughan, 85, who passed away March 20. Rev. David Snow of the First Baptist Church and Dr. Ellis Tiffany officiated. Entombment followed in Hillcrest Memorial Parks Garden of the Holy Family.


Mrs. Vaughan was born April 18, 1900 in Wasco, Texas. She moved to Lake Isabella in 1959. She was very active in church work and was the founder of the First Baptist Church, Lake Isabella. She was a member of the Kern River Valley Chapter 843 Order of the Eastern Star. Order of the Golden Slipper M.H.C. 151, P.T.A. and former member of the Womens Club of Weldon. Her hobbies were sewing, crocheting and quilting. She was preceded in death by her son Samuel Eugene Vauhana in Apr. of 1979.


She is survived by her husband of 59 years. Ray of Lake Isabella, daughter and son-in-law, Jimmie and Jan Gieger of Ridgecrest; grandson Jason and Jacob Gieger of Ridgecrest; niece Doris Rae Payton of Bakersfield; nephews John and Frank Vaughan of Bakersfield, and J. B. Vaughan Sr. of Willis, Texas.

OBITUARY


W.B. "BUD" REYNOLDS


A funeral service was conducted Wednesday March 26 at the Masonic Temple, Kernville for Willis B. "Bud" Reynolds of Wofford Heights.


Officiating were officers of Kern River Valley Lodge No. 827 F & AM. Mr. Reynolds passed away March 24 at the Kern Valley Hospital, Mt. Mesa.


He is survived by his wife of 54 years Oma Reynolds of Wofford Heights; son Willliam Reynolds of California; daughters Anita Carrington of California; Jean Donnelly of California; Linda Espe of California: 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.


Bud Reynolds was a Master Mason and member of Masonic Lodge No. 21 of Pontiac, Michigan.


Born April 23, 1908 in Arkansas, Willis Bigger "Bud" Reynolds was 77.


Interment at the Kern Valley Cemetery. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.


ROBERT K. MERCER


Robert K. Mercer of Wofford Heights passed away March 23 at his residence after a long illness.


He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marjorie of Wofford Heights; son Robert of Hermosa Beach; daughter Susan Axelrod of Venice; brothers Maurice of Colorado, Everett of Colorado, Donald of Illinois, Kenneth of Illinois; sister Virginia Johnson of Illinois; four grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.


Robert Mercer had resided in the Kern Valley for the past 11 years and was a member of the Douglas El Segundo Rod and Gun Club.
