A graveside funeral service was conducted Wednesday Aug. 28 at the Kern River Valley Cemetery for Willard D. Croft of Lake Isabella. Officlating was the Chaplain of the U.S. Naval Reserve Ilth Naval District, Bakersfield. Chaplain Jesse Wright represented the Kern River Valley Veterans Council.
Mr. Croft passed away Aug. 29 at the Kern Valley hospital, Mt. Mesa.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Katie, Lake Isabella; son Thomas of Las Vegas; sister Nina Walsh of Oregon; sister Medge Croft of Fairfield; sister Sylvia Miller of Fontana; grandchildren Mike and Tommy and great-grandson Aaron Thomas.
Willard Croft was a member of the Moose LOOM 498 of Lake Isabella.
In 1948, Mr. Croft participated in the Nuclear weapons testing at Bikini Atoll in the Pacific. During wartime, he was awarded capaign medals for service in the Asiatic-pacific, China and Korea. More recently, the U.S. Navy offered Mr. Croft sea duty aboard one of the newly reactivated battleships of our surface fleet. He was forced to decline due to his age and health.

GLEN EUGENE JOHNSON
A graveside funeral service was held Saturday, Aug. 24 at 11 a.m. at the Kern River Valley Cemetery Wofford Heights for Glen Eugene Johnson, 78 who died August 21 at his residence in Wofford Heights.
Mr. Johnson was a retired maintenance mechanic of the Atlantic Richfield Oil Company, Bakersfield operations.
He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Nora Johnson, Wofford Heights; brothers Frank Johnson and Everit Johnson, Oregon.
Glen Eugene Johnson was born April 25, 1907 in Arizona. service with the U.S. Navy. He was a veteran of Korea and WW II, where he served aboard the destroyer USS Thomason ( DD-760).
TOM MOORE
Memorial services were held at Riverside Park Friday, Aug. 23 at 10 a.m. for Tom Moore who died of cancer at Riverside General Hospital on Aug. 17.
Born June 11, 1954, Tom Moore was 31 years.
Survivors include his mother, Toni Moore, father Bert Moore, and brother, Alan Moore.

Mr. Kirchhan passed away Aug. 25 at the Kern Valley Hospital Mt. Mesa. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Onyx; daughter, Marjorie Kirchhan of San Diego; son and daughter in law, James and Mary Kirchhan of Laguna Nigel; daughter Ruth Warner of Medford, Oregon: grandchildren Bobby Kirchhan of Laguna; Dane Warner of Hawaii; Claudia Cahill, Los Angeles and great-granddaughter Beth Warner of Los Angeles; brother Robert Kirchhan of Milwaukee; sister Aurelia Zorn of Wisconsin, nieces and nephews.
Mr. Kirchhan was a member of the Eagles FOE Aerie 3156, Mt. Mesa and the Moose LOOM 498 of Lake Isabella.
Charles Kirchhan moved to Onyx in 1974 after retiring from Armco Steel in Torrance.

Logan Ruhl Sunipter of Wilmington, California pased away in Lake Isabella Sept. 7.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Wilmington; sons Robert and Timothy, both of Tulare; daughters Linda Murray of Redondo Beach, Paulette Tiner of Lake Isabella; eleven grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.
Mr. Sumpter had been a regular visitor of the Kern Valley for more than 40 years.

A graveside funeral service was conducted Thursday, Sept. 5 at the Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier, for Dorcas Scifres of Kernville. Officiating was Father G. Kevin Taylor, Pastor of the St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Downey.
Mrs. Scifres passed away Sept. 3 at the Kern Valley Hospital, Mt. Mesa. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, A.E. "Tex" Scifres of Kernville; son Fred Nyatt of Oxnard; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Mrs. Scifres was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a resident of the Kern River Valley for the past 12 years.

WILLIAM "BUD" HENRY EDGE
Services were held Sept. 5 at Hillcrest Mortuary Chapel for Bud Edge, who passed away Sept. 3 in Bakersfield. Interment followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park with the Rev. Arnold Nelmeyer of Faith Temple, Bakersfield, officiated.
Mr. Edge was a long time resident of Bakersfield and had moved to Lake Isabella with his wife to Pastor the Bodfish Pentecostal Church of God.
He was a truck driver for the last 35 years before retiring.
He is survived by his wife, Francis; daughter, Gale Gallemore of Bakersfield; and son, Samuel D. Edge of Oklahoma; grandsons, Jessey Cole Edge and Kyle Davld Gallemore; brother, James Edge of Kansas; sister, Emma Edge of Beaumont; mother, Leona Quick of Beaumont and father, Lonzo Edge of Oklahoma.
Born June 25, 1933, in Reed, Oklahoma, William "Bud" Edge was 52.

CELIA ANN RICKER
Celia Ann Ricker, 38, died Sept. 12 in Granada hills Community Hospital, Granada Hills, following a lengthy pulmonary illness.
C. Ann was born Sept. 1, 1947 in Miami, Oklahoma and graduated from Miami High School in 1965. She attended the University of Kansas and graduated with honors, receiving a Bachelor of Music Degree In Voice.
C. Ann was married in 1968 and moved to the San Fernando Valley in 1969. She sang for two seasons with the Roger Wagner Master Chorale, giving frequent performances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
C. Ann and her family have been residents of the Kern Valley since 1979, during which time she participated in many organizations. She was an active member of the Highland Chapel united Methodist Church, and co-directed the 1983 Youth Group productin of "Jesus Christ Superstar". She directed the church choir and also community choir.
C. Ann presented several voice recitals in the area and was a member of the Sweet Adelines.
In 1984 she created poetry and abstract art work which was compiled and published by the California-Nevada Conference of the United Methodist Church for the World Hunger Project. An exhibit of her art works was on display at the Maturango Museum in Ridgecrest in April 1984.
She is survived by her husband, Stan; two sons, Jimmy and Rusty; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Richards of Miami, Oklahoma and her brother Dr. Kenneth Richards, Jr. and family of Strasbourg, France.

ROLAND MILLS LEIBERT
Roland Mills Leibert died Sept. 19 at Mercy Hospital, Bakersfield.
Born in Louisa, Virginia, April 21, 1920, Roland Mills Leibert was 65.
He was reared and educated in Lancaster, PA and Dinwiddie County, VA He attended Los Angeles City College.
Leibert was a third generation German-American. He carried on the tradition of his family as millers and was with the Quaker Oats Co for 15 years. He purchased the Midway Motel and Cafe in 1961 and Bob's Liquor Store In Ridgecrest. he operated the motel until 1973.
While in Ridgecrest, Roland was active in many civic organizations and was an original member of Ridgecrest Pollice reserve. He has also been a member of the California Highway Patrol reserve in Los Angeles many years ago. He served in the South Pacific Theatre for four years In World War II, and was in many of the major battles of the islands. He served with the 37th Division of the 37th Signal Co. attached to the First Marine Division.
Mr. Leibert is survived by his beloved wife, Patsy Edwards Leibert, who he married in 1965; children Karen and Larry Kuster, Frank and Sharon Leibert; grandchildren Scott and Kathy Kuster, Chantille Leibert, all of Ridgecrest; Darsey Kustar of La Habra; great grand daughter, Jennifer Kuster of Ridgecrest; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Art and Roberta Jones of Weldon; sister and brother-in-law Alice and James Gibbs, sister-in-law Elsie Leibert, brother and sister-in-law, Lester and Virginia Carter, and neices and nephews, all of Virginia. He also leaves behind many special friends.
Mr. Lelbert was a member of the Desert Shrine Club, a charter member of the Lake Isabella Shrine Club, Al Malaikah Temple, Los Angeles, the Free and Accepted Masons of Callf., Greeleaf Lodge No. 670, Whittier, the Bakersfield Scottish Rite and a member of tha VFW Post 7665, Lake Isabella.
Masonic and Military graveside services were held Monday, Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

MARYBELLE FRIEDMEYER REYNOLDS
Services will be held at the Valley Mortuary in Lake Isabella Friday, Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. for Marybelle Friedmeyer Reynolds who died Sept. 21 in a Bakersfield hospital as a result of a tragic traffice accident in South Lake. Officiating will be Pastor Clyde Rowe, retired who will be coming from Des Moines, Iowa.
Mrs. Reynolds was the devoted wife of Herbert Mason Reynolds and they were residents of California and Lake Isabella area for the past 31 years. They were married 49 years.
Born Dec. 17, 1914 in Des Moines, Iowa, Marybelle was the daughter of the late john and Winnifred Friedmeyer in Des Moins. She was a graduate of Simpson Teachers College, Iowa.
Marybelle was preceded in death by her parents and son, James Fredrick.
Survivors include her husband, Herbert Mason; sister Priscilla Fosnough and her husband, Robert, of Wofford Heights; brother, John Friedmeyer, Jr. and his wife Hazel, of Des Moines; two sons Donald Lee and wife Roxanna; Herbert Mason Jr. and wife Jeanne all of Long Beach; granddaughters Michelle Reynolds Fisch, Tiphanie Joy, Marijo Lynn, Jennifer Any; two grandsons, Michael Jeffery and Toy James, as well as many other relatives and friends.
Marybelle will long be remembered and missed as a loving, devoted and caring wife, mother and friend.

Mr. Lane was born Oct. 4, 1911 in Illinois, and died in Bakersfield on Sept. 23.

Mr. Lane was a member of the VFW Woomen of the World and had served in WW II in the Navy as a C.B. in the Pacific Theater.

A funeral mass was held Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m. at St. Jude Parish Catholic Church, Wofford Heights for Annetta Mary Casper. Officiating was Rev. Monsignor A.G. Herdegen, Pastor. Interment followed at Kern Valley cemetery, Wofford Heights.
Mrs. Casper was born Dec. 21, 1910 in Jackson, Michigan and died Sept. 21 at her residence in Wofford Heights after a long illness.
She is survived by her husband of 13 years, Clyde J. Casper, Wofford Heights; son, John Dorresett, Woody; Bud Dorresett, Bakersfield; son Lyle Dorrestt, Las Vegas; sister Rosemary Arnone of San Francisco; brother Dewitt Crosier, Santa Rosa; 25 grand children and 17 great grandchildren.

CARMELA MARIE RAMOS
Recitation of the Holy Rosary and Requlieum Mass was celebrated Thursday, Sept. 26 at 1 p.m. at the St. Thomas Catholic Church for Carmela Marie Ramos, 39, Kernville, who died Saturday, Sept. 21 in a tragic auto accident.
The Reverend Anthony Herdegen officiated. Interment followed in the Arvin District ( cine tery.
Mrs Ramos was born Carmela Marie Fronteras in Bakersfield Dec. 7, 1946 to Delfino and Carmen Fronteras. She attended Arvin Elementary and high schools.
She worked for the Arvin Union School District for three years, after receiving her pre-school certification.
At the time of her death, she was attending Bakersfield Community College. She was a member of the St. Judes Wofford Heights Altar Society.
Carmela was preceeded in death by her mother, Carmen in September of 1982.
She is survived by her husband, Michael of Kernville; son Michael II, Kernville; father Delfino Fronteras of Arvin; two brothers, Delfino, Jr. of Oxnard and Jacinto of Lamont; 3 sisters, Cecilia Murillo of Huntington Beach, Frances Lelis of Ridgecrest and Margaret Mauldin of Bakersfield.
Carmela lived in Kernville for the past eight years.
The Knights of Columbus, 7927 Lodge of Kern River Valley Council served as casket bearers.

Hattie H. Betteridge passed away Sept. 21 in Costa Mesa after a long illness.
She was born Nov. 18, 1890 in Stamford, Conn.
Mrs. Betteridge was a long time resident of Bodfish.
She is survived by two sons, Leland R. and Richard Betteridge; six grandchildren and great grandchildren and one great-grand child.
Mrs. Betteridge was a Charter member of the 55 plus Club and their first secretary and also a member of the Highland Chapel Methodist Church of Lake Isabella.

Services were conducted Thursday, Sept. 26 at 1 p.m. in St. Thomas Catholic Church for Anne Marie Ramos, 7, Kernville who died Wednesday in a Bakersfield hospital. The Msgr. Anthony Herdegen officiated the Mass of the Angels.
Anne Marie was born January 22, 1978 in Bakersfield; she was an honor student at Kernville Elementary School and participated in the Lazers soccer team of Kernville.
Survivors include her father, Michael; brother Michael II; grandfather, Delfino Fronteras of Arvin and paternal grandparents Frank and Lea Ramos of Lamont.

He is survived by his wife, Betty of Lake Isabella; daughter Mary Elizabeth and son-in-law James McWhorter of Bakersfield and sister Emma Frye of Cape Giradeau, MO. He also is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Brucher was born in Cape Giradeau April 4, 1918
He served 30 years in the U.S. Navy and retired in 1967. He was a member of U.S. Fleet Reserve and a survivor of Pearl Harbor.
Mr. Brucher was a member of Kern River Valley Masonic Lodge No 827, Bakersfield Scottish Rite, Kern River Valley Chapter 162, Royal Arch Masons, Kern River Valley Order of Eastern Star No. 643, National Camper and Trailer Club 147, Al Malikah Temple of Los Angeles and Lake Isabella Shrine Club, Lake Isabella Moose Lodge, 498 and Kern River Valley Eagles 3156.

Private memorial services were held for Louis R. Deadrich of Wofford Heights who passed away at his residence Oct. 9.
Mr. Deadrich Is surived by his wife, Mildred Deadrich of Wofford Heights; son Don L. Deadrich of Wofford Heights; grandchildren Donna Higgins
of Wofford Heights,Laurie Vigil of South Lake Tahoe and great grandchildren Scott and Shawn Higgins.
Lou Deadrich was a veteran of WW I who served with Co. B of the U.S. Army's 305th tank batallion. He was a past Grand Marshall of the Wofford Heights Early Calilfornia Days.
Louis R. Deadrich was a graduate of the University of California, 1924, at Berkeley and graduated in 1926 from the University of California Berkeley Boalt Hall School of Law. He then entered into the practice of law in California.
Until his retirement, he was a partner in the Bakersfield law firm of Deadrich, Bates & Tutton. Using his legal expertise, Deadrich contributed to the growth and development of the Kern River Valley through the organization of the KRV Chamber of Commerce, assisting in the founding of the KRV golf course. He helped to bring to the Kern River Valley much of the banking services of the area.
Donations to the Alzheimer's Disease Foundation, 360 No. Michigan Ave, Chicago, Illinois, 60601 may be made for the benefit of Mildred Deadrich in memory of Lou.

Mrs. Powell passed away at home on Oet. 12 after a long illness.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, John T. Powell of Bodfish; daughter Elaine Pickle of Texas; sister Thelma Wilkerson of Missouri; brother Sam Swanson of Illinois; two grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Powell had resided in the Kern River Valley for the past four years.

FRED PARMENTER
A funeral service was conducted Wednesday. Oct. 16 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel in Lake Isabella for Fred Parmenter of Larsen Tract. Officiating was Rev. Linda Inlow, pastor of the Highland Chapel United Methodist Church. Lake Isabella.
Mr. Parmenter passed away Oct. 12 at the San Joaquin Community Hospital, Bakersfield.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years. Floye A. Parmenter of Larsen Tract; son Fred of Norwalk; daughters Virginia Van Ramshorst of La Mirada; Phillis McCombs of La Mirada; brothers Vern and Norman Both of Kansas; sister Jewel Akins of Oklahoma and seven grandchildren.
Born Oct. 29, 1908 in Mitchel, Kansas, Frederick Wellington, Parmenter was 76.

HARRY C. STRATEN
Harry C. Straten of Bodfish passed away at his residence after an illness on Oct. 10
Memorial services were conducted for Mr. Straten at the Valley Mortuary Chapel Lake Isabella Tuesday, Oct. 15. Officiating was Rev. James S. McGhee, Pastor of the United Methodist Church, Kernville.
Mr. Straten is survived by his wife of 24 years, Virginia of Bodfish; daughter Harriet Lee West of Turlock; brother Paul Straten of Ohio; brother David I .. Straten of Ohio; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Harry Straten operated several businesses in the Sierras, including a small cafe at Roads End, a grocery and gas at Fairview on the upper Kern River and a pack station at Barstow Camp. He was also a former owner of the Bridge Cafe in Kernville. In all, Harry Straten had lived and worked in the Kern Valley and vacinity for 23 years.
Born Jan. 9, 1916 in Jackson Ohio, Harry Clifford Straten was 69.
Cremation arrangements by Valley Mortuary with interment of ashes at Forest Rose Cemetery Fairfield County, Ohio.
MYRTLE NELSON
A funeral service was conducted Tuesday, Oct. 15 at the committal chapel of the Kern River Valley Cemetery for Myrtle Nelson of Lake Isabella. Officiating was Pastor Jerry Curtis of the New Hope Fellowship, Bakersfield.
Mrs Nelson passed away Oct. 10 at the Colonial Convalescent Hospital in Bakersfield.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Ruby and Gene Wilkson, owners of Ruby's Flower Shop in Lake Isabella; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren; one brother Harry Christiansen, of Iowa.
