A memorial service was conducted Monday, April 15, at the Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella, for Bernard C. Ackley of Bodfish. Officiating was the Kern River Valley Veterans Council, Fred Dodds commander.


Ackley passed away suddendly at his residence on April 9.


He is survived by his sister, Nancy Davidson of Albuquerque; nephews Michael and Peter, also of New Mexico and niece, Susan of Hawaii: Bernard Ackley was a 27 year veteran of the U.S. Army who retired in 1965. He served during WW II and Korea and was decorated for valor. Born Aug. 16, 1925, in Minneapolis, Minn., Bernard Charles "Barney" Ackley was 59.

IDELLE PRINDLE


Funeral services for Idell Prindle of Bodfish were conducted Tuesday, April 16, at the Valley Mortuary Chapel. Lake Isabella. Officiating was Rev. David Snow Pastor of the First Baptist Church, Lake Isabella. Mrs. Prindle passed away April 13 at Mercy Hospital, Bakersfield. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Loyd Prindle of Bodfish; daughter Joanne Haussner of Hawthorne; granddaughters Debbie Escano of Redondo Beach, Gayle DiMeglio of San Pedro, Staci Haussner of Hawthorne; great- grandsons Danny Escano of Redondo Beach and Gina DiMeglio of San Pedro.


Mrs. Prindle was treasurer of the Bodfish Beamers collectors club. Born July 21, 1912 in Ida Grove, Iowa, G. Idell Prindle was 72. Interment at Inglewood Park. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary, Lake Isabella.

Graveside services were held Friday, April 19, at 11 a.m. at Kern River Valley cemetery for Juanita Yvonne Sweeney, 68, who passed away April 16 in Bakersfield. Juanita was last employed by Bank of America, where she worked for 14 years. She was a member of First Christian Church of Bakersfield for 30 years. She was a resident of Wofford Heights for seven years and a member of Kernville United Methodist Church and the Ladies of the Elks. She is survived by her husband Pat, of Wofford Heights; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Janet Sweeney of Bakersfield; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and John Weaver of Ridgecrest; brothers Ray Thompson of Chico and Ralph Thompson of Westwood; grandchildren Michael, Sharie, Shannon and Erin Sweeney and Patrick and Kelly Weaver. Rev. Jim McGhee, pastor of the Kernville United Methodist Church officiated.

A memorial service was held April 20 at the Nativity Catholic Church in Torrance for Marjorie Rita Lally who died April 19.


Mrs. Lally was a resident of Kernville since 1972.


She is survived by her husband John (Jack) L. Lally, Sr .; son John L. Lally, Jr., and wife Sue of Torrance; daughter, Nina Blevens of Gardena; sister Sister Evelyn Marie Davis of Traverse City, Mich .; brother, Russell J. Kidwell, of Mount Clemens, Mich .; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.


Born May 27, 1920, in Grosse Point, Mich., Marjorie Rita Lally was 65. A memorial service will be held in the Kern Valley at a later date.

Carl F. Ruff, of Mt. Mesa. Officiating were officers of Kern Valley Moose Lodge No 498 LOOM and Rev. Linda Inlow, pastor of the Highland Chapel Methodist Church.


Mr. Ruff passed away April 16 at Kern Valley Hospital.


He is preceded in death by his daughter Beverly Gill, deceased in

A graveside memorial service was conducted Friday April 26 at the Kern River Valley cemetery for Charles E. Frost of Bodfish. Officiating were officers of Kern Valley Mouse Lodge No. 498.


Mr. Prost passed away April 21 at the Kern Valley Hospital.


He is survived by his sons Charles Ray of Paradise, I arry of Nebraska; brothers Everett of Iowa, Grant of lowa, Lindy of Iowa; sister Thelma Morton of Iowa; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.


Charles, Chuck Frost was a member of the Eagles, the Mouse and the VFW.

Mr. Hosey passed away at his residence during the evening of April 27 after an illness.

JOHN H. CASTLEMAN John H. Castleman of Lake Isabella passed away May 6 at Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield.


He is survived by his wife, Margaret, of Lake Isabella and son John, Jr. of La Mirada.


John Castleman was a member of K.V. Moose Lodge No. 498, and the Forty-Niners Death Valley Historical Association.


He had been a resident of the Kern Valley for the past 15 years.

BRIGHAM YOUNG STOVER Brigham Young Stover passed away on April 24 at San Joaquin Hospital, Bakersfield.


He Is survived by his wife, of 62 years Marie Stover, Kernville; son Jack D. Stover, Kernville; brother Ruben Stover, San Jose; sister Florence Williams, Yucipa and one granddaughter JoLynn Dianne Schoonover, City of Industry.


Jack and Marie moved to Kernville in 1975, after retiring from his own barbershop business in Los Angeles which he ran for 30 years.


Born Jan. 16, 1901 in Texas, Brigham Young Stover was 84.

A funeral mass was held for Robert Louis Andrew on Tuesday, May 14 at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Wofford Heights with Monsingor A.G. Herdegon officiating.


Robert Andrew was born Feb. 7, 1932 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and


died at his residence Friday, May 10. Interment will be held at Kern River Valley Cemetery.


He is survived by his wife Beatty of Lake Isabella; sons Frank and Tony Lamping of Lake Isabella; daughters Bobby Johnson of Corona, Mary Eikart of Sacramento, Judy Byrne of Sacramento, Sharon Coughlin of Orange, Lana Yarbrough of Lake Isabella and Joni Lamping of Lake Isabella; mother Mary Stapleton of Northridge and sister Helen Bigwood of Iowa and nine grandchildren. Robert was a Marine veteran of the Korean war and a member of the Moose, Elks and Eagles. He was a resident of the valley for the past six years.

Mr. Kotthoff passed away May 10 at the San Joaquin Hospital, Bakersfield.


He is survived by his wife, Ina, of Wofford Heights; daughters Faith Clayton, Missouri, Karen Knox and husband Jim of Laguna Hills; grandson Richard Knox of Laguna Hills.


Frank Kotthoff was a member of KRV Elks Lodge No. 2358 and had been a resident of the Kern River Valley for the past 11 years. Born Feb. 19, 1912 in Mamkato, Minnesota, Frank Joseph Kotthoff was 73.

Mr. Benedict was a meat cutter for 27 years and was last employed in Bakersfield for Lucky's Markets. Mr. Carter was born July 28, 1924 in Russell, Kentucky and died May 13 in Bakerafield.


He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Wofford Heights; his mother Ann Freeman of Lake Isabella; daughter Dona Luzzi of Sonoma; brother Richard Carter of Florida and one grandson, Christian Giarrita of Sonoma.


Mr. Carter served in the Navy during WW II and the Army during the Korean war and was a member of Kern Valley Moose.

of 16 years of Bodfish; sons Wayne Condon of Bakersfield; John Condon of Lancaster; daughters Pat Schick, Lodi, Dorothy Lee Smith, Gardena; brothers Harold, Florida, Carl Condon of New York and Ken Condon of New York; sister Nellie Barnett of New York; and 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren amd 2 great great grandchildren.

C.R. "Bunch" BLANKENSHIP


A funeral service was conducted Tuesday, May 28 at the United Methodist Church in Kernville for C.R. "Bunch" Blankenship of Wofford Heights. Officiating was Rev. Jim McGhee.


Mr. Blankenship passed away May 24 at home in Wofford Heights after an illness.


He is survived by his wife Loris of Wofford Heights; sons Owen Blankenship of Reseda and Tom Blankenship of Halsey Canyon- Saugus; daughter and son-in-law Sue and Tom Mckinney of Wofford Helghts; sister Lorene Williamson of Platte City, Missouri; ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.


Bunch Blankenship was & Mason and a member of Triangle Lodge 548 and a member of Triangle Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. He was also a member of Kernville United Methodist Church and active in church work, including visitation of the sick and those in need. He was also instrumental in forming the Mended Hearts Association of the Kern Valley.


Born May 26, 1911 in Platte County, Missouri, Carol Roscoe "Bunch" Blankenship was 73.

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated at the St. Jude Parish Catholic Church in Wofford Heights on Friday, May 31, for Albert Amer of Lake Isabella. Officiating at the mass and at the Rosary conducted Thursday evening was Rev. Monsignor Anthony G. Herdegen, Pastor of St. Jude's Parish.


Amer passed away May 28 at his residence in Lake Isabella.


He is survived by his daughter, Cecilia Deuel of Lake Isabella; granddaughter Pvt. First Class Cecilia Negrete with the U.S. Army in Louisiana, Kathryn Louise Negrete, Lake Isabella; nephew John Lally of Kernville, nephew, Kenneth, and niece Bernice Leonard.

Jones passed away May 26 at the Kern Valley Hospital, Mtn. Mesa.

He was a Mason and member of Masonic Lodge No. 661 of Los Angeles. Born Jan. 11, 1915, in Ridgefarm, Ill., Bonner Frank Jones was 70.

A graveside service will be held today, June 13 at 11 a.m. at the Kern Rivar Valley carnetery for Hubbard Irvin Ellis, Bakersfield. Officiating will be Pastor Jack Peacock of the Calvary Bible Church, Bakersfield.


Ellis was born in Texas, July 4, 1909 and died June 7 in a Bakersfield hospital after a long illness.


He was a realdent of the Kern Valley for five years in the mid to late 1960s and has been a resident of the Bakersfield area for the past 30 yeara. He is survived by sons Patrick Ells and Richard Ellis, both of Bakersfield. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

Gorden passed away June 12 at Kern Valley Hospital.


She is survived by her husband, Chet, of Bodfish. Billie was known in the Kern Valley as the dispatcher for auto club tow trucks from Chet's Garage. She loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting, and often packed into the high country.


Born Sept. 14, 1914, in New Mexico, Billie Floyddeanne Bartell-Gorden was 70.

She passed away May 4. Newton and her husband, J.P. Newton, resided in Kernville in the 50s and mid-60s. He preceeded her in death in 1975. The couple had Newton's Welding and Plumbing Service which was associated with Kernville Hardware. Both were active members of the First Southern Baptist Church, Kernville.


Mildred was a member of the Allstates Chapter 502, Order of Eastern Star, in Long Beach for over 40 years. She also served as secretary for the Kaph Chapter, Order of Golden Slipper, Kernville, in 1962. After leaving the Kern Valley, the Newtons moved to Bakersfield then to Hawaiian Garden to be closer to their daughter and son-in-law, Irene Rossina and Charles M. Jacobs of Los Alamitos.


She is also survived by a grandaughter, Nancy Diane Hughes; three great-grandchildren; a newphew, Wm. Ray Briscoe, Whom she raised, and grand-nephew, Bill Briscoe, Irvine.


PENNY LOIS STEWART


Graveside services were held Monday, June 17, at Santa Paula cemetery for Penny Lois Stewart, who died Thursday, June 13, following a long illness. The Rev. John Ross officiated.


Born April 16, 1921, in Clarleston, Ark. Penny Stewart was 64.


She resided in Lake Isabella for two years.


She is survived by her son, Calton Allridge of Ventura; sisters, Erma Fort Smith, Ark, Theda of Santa Paula, Mozelle and Ruie, both of Ventura and Sue of Nuevo; brothers James of Santa Paula and Elmo of Ventura.

OBITUARY


CLIFFORD ALLEN CROSS


Memorial services were held June 15 in Oregon for Clifford Allen Cross who died June 11 at his home in Oregon.


He is survived by his parents, Clifford L. and Ganleve Cross, of Wofford Heights; his wife, Alyne Walker Cross; stepchildren Marjorie Hernandez, Judy Hawkins and Gary Farley; two sisters, June Frankes and Patti Bankaon and three grandchildren.


Born in Winnemucca, Nev., on March 13, 1933, Clifford Allen Cross was 52.


He was raised and attended schools in the Kern River Valley. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and was a retired conductor for Western Pacific Railroad. In recent years, Clifford and his wife operated a raspberry farm at Myrtle Creek, Ore.


FRANCES J. MALLORY


Services were held Saturday, June 22, &t Hillcrest Mortuary, Bakersfield, for Frances Josephine Mallory of Onyx. Reverend Duane Splawn of Kern Christian Church officiated.


Mrs. Mallory was preceded in death by her husband, Harry L. Mallory and a son, Ray L. Mallory. Survivors include her son, Harry L. "Bud" Mallory of Onyx; six grandchildren, Sgt. Harry L. "Butch" Mallory, Tacoma, Wash .; John L. Mallory, Weldon; David Mallory, Bakersfield; Jeanette Sweatt, El Paso, Tex .; Margaret Bilyeu, Bakersfield and Fran Cee Mallory, Bakersfield and eight great grandchildren.


Pallbearers were from Kern Valley Search and Rescue.


Frances Mallory was 82.

ELSIE SMITH


Elsie Smith of Lake Isabella passed away June 20 at tha Bevarty Manor Convalescent Hospital, Bakersfield, after a long itiness.


She is preceeded in death by her husband, William A. "Bill" Smith and survived by her sons, Lonnie and Fred; daughter Jan and five grandchildren.


Born March 4, 1918, in California, Elsie Anna Smith was 67.


Cremation arrangements by Valley Mortuary of Lake Isabella.


MARGUERITE F. STRONGMAN


Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 25, at Eternal Valley Memorial Park, Newhall, for Marguerite Strongman of Mt. Mesa who passed away June 20 at Kern Valley Hospital. Dr. William Hilton officiated.


She is survived by her husband, William, Mt. Mesa; children and grandchildren.
