WABASH, IND.
WABASH, IND.,
Is a pleasantly situated incorporated commercial and manıi- facturing town of 5,000 inhabitants, on the north bank of the Wabash River; county seat of Wabash county, 90 miles northeast of Indianapolis, on the main line of the Wabash, St. Louis & Pacific, and Cincinnati, Wabash & Michigan, Railroads.
This thriving town was laid off in the year of 1834 by Col. H. Hanna and David Burr. The resident portion of the city is mainly on an elevation of 40 to 50 feet, overlook- ing one of the most beautiful and fertile agricultural valleys in the State. The homes of the citizens of Wabash are far famed for their uniformity of modern architecture and neat. surroundings. The Court House is a splendid stone struc- ture, erected on the highest elevation inside the corporation limits, from the dome of which, shines forth the electric light by night, that can be seen for miles around and the town clock chronicles the fleeting hours of time.
Wabash City possesses many advantages as a manufactur- ing point, and the success of such establisliments, surround- ed as it is with a rich agricultural district, gives it prestige . as a good business town.
One of the representative manufacturing establishments is the Wabash School Furniture Co., who have in the last ten years rapidly increased their facilities and reputation for the manufacturing of school, office and church furniture. The are doing a prosperous and satisfactory business, fur- nishing employment to seventy-five hands the year around. A full page illustration of their large establishment can be found on page 316, showing the extensive factories and lumber yards.
