MAINE INFANTRY.


TWELFTH REGIMENT.


(This regiment was organized at Cape Elizabeth, Me., November 16, 1861, to serve three years. The original members (except veterans) were mastered out December 7, 1864, and the veterans and recruits consoli- dated into a battalion of four com- panies and retained in service. Six new companies were organized at Portland, Me., in February and March, 1865, to serve one, two, and three years, and assigned to this organization, which is still in service.)
