NEW HAMPSHIRE CAVALRY.


FIRST REGIMENT.


(Four companies of this regiment were organized at Concord aud Manches- ter, N. H., from October 24, 1861, to December 27, 1861, for three years, as a portion of the First Rhode Island (First New England) cavalry. Detached from that regi- ment January 7, 1864, to form a New Hampshire battalion of cav- alry. Eight companies were or- ganized at Concord, N. H., from April 19, 1864, to July 20, 1864, for three years, to which was added the New Hampshire cavalry bat- talion. This regiment remained in service until July 15, 1865, when it was mustered out by orders from the War Department.)

Company B, August 18, 1863, as 2d company New Hampshire heavy artillery, and assigned to the 1st regiment. Companies C, D, E, F, G, H, I, K, and L, from September 2, 1864, to October 17, 1864. Company M,


September 26, 1861, as the 1st New Hampshire light artillery; the original members (non-veterans) were mustered out of service Sep- tember 28, 1864, and the veterans and recruits retained in service and assigned to 1st heavy artillery No- vember 5, 1864, as company M- companies A, B, and M to serve three years, all others one and three years.
