Farm,

29

NOTE. The collector states that $32.59 is the whole amount received for interest on taxes, and that the $5.70 received on taxes for 1873 is included in that sum, and not in addition to it, as we had understood. The balance in his hands is therefore $5.70 less than the amount stated in his account. Since the report was put into the printer's hands, the overseers have told us of two items to be added to the sales from the farm; one of hay, for $13.75, and one of straw, for $1.50, and of two bills in their hands of which we had not before been informed ; one of the bills being for the hay above mentioned, $13.75, and one of three dollars, which has since been paid into the treasury. They also inform us that the bill of 1873, for $7.15, was included in the farm credits for 1874.

The farm account, corrected by these statements, is as follows :-

Credits of the farm, before given, $1,813.81

Credits for the two items above mentioned, 15.25

$1,829.06

Of these credits there has now been paid into the treasury, $873.54

Paid out by superintendent, for bills against the farm, 633.31

Bills due, in overseers' hands, as before reported, $301.43

Bill for hay, now reported, 13.75

Bill for 1873, included in ac- count for 1874, 7.15

322.33

$1,829.18

REMARKS.

The average number of persons at the Town Farm during the past year was twenty ; the present number is nineteen. The balance against the farm is large, owing in a measure to the decrease in personal property, amounting to $504.30. The various items of this decrease are set forth in the schedules of farm property, the largest item being for salt hay and thatch, which fell short, in weight, of the appraisal, and sold at a low price. About $400 of the amount paid on the Farm account was for bills of last year.

The Current Expense account is much larger than last year. The extra expense is made up of damages and costs in the Marshall case, $1,077.61 ; building reservoir, $513.47, and two safes, $429, amounting in all to $2,020.08.

The Poor account is also much larger than usual, owing to the expense in the Nancy Smith case : To wit costs and damages, $1,266.66

Counsel fees and disbursements, 382.80

Board at the hospital from the time the suit was commenced to last July, when she was removed to the farm, and expense of moving her there, 1,109.19

$2,758.65

Respectfully submitted,

CHARLES A. SAYWARD, WILLIAM D. BRACKETT, EDWARD W. CHOATE,
