REMARKS.
The average number of persons at the Town Farm, during the past year, was sixteen. The present number is fourteen. The balance against the Farm, ($465.48,) and the interest on its value, ($840.00,) making the average cost of support for each person $1.44 per week.
It will be perceived that the amount expended under the head of " Current Expenses " is somewhat larger than last year. The cost of the Town Scales, and the purchase of a large Safe, which has been placed in the Town House, has made quite a difference in that part of the expenses.
The amount expended for " Highways and Bridges " has been somewhat larger than last year, as all or nearly all the railings and guards on the roads and bridges, within the limits of the town, were in a very poor condition, and they have been thor- oughly repaired, and put in good order.
The abatements to N. R. FARLEY are very large, as they in- clude the taxes on the estate of Dr. THOS. MANNING, for _1856 and 1857, amounting to over $800, which could not be collected.
There has been a large amount expended on the bridge at Manning's Mills. The town's property at Turkey Shore has been fenced during the past year, both for the safety of the pub- lic travel and as an income to the town, as it is property that can be rented.
