Article 68. Voted to appropriate, as it accrues from Water Revenue, the sum of Nineteen hundred and fifty dollars ($1,950.00) for the purchase of 2550 feet of pipe to complete installation of water mains on Forest Street where work is now in progress by W. P. A.

Article 69. Voted to pass over the establishing of a planning board under the provisions of General Laws, Chapter 41, Section 81A, as amended by Chapter 211 of 1936; the board to consist of five members, the first elec- tions to be for one to five year terms, and thereafter one each year for a five year term; and the directing of the Moderator to appoint a temporary board to serve until the regular board was duly elected.


Article 70. Voted to pass over the acceptance of the provisions of General Laws, Chapter 41, Section 81F to 81J, inclusive, as amended by Chapter 211 of 1936.


Article 71. Voted to pass over the raising and appro- priating of the sum of Eleven hundred dollars ($1,100.00) for the preparation of a zoning plan under the direction of the planning board.


Article 72. Voted to pass over the authorizing of the Fire Department to place a colored light over each fire alarm box throughout the town, for identification of lo- cation at night, and the raising and appropriating of a sum of money for the same.


Article 73. Voted to build catch basins on the west side of Everett Street from East Water Street to Blossom Street, a distance of 200 feet, and that the amount of Two hundred fifty dollars ($250.00) be appropriated from the sum raised for Highway Repairs under article No. 3 to pay for the cost of same.


Article 74. Voted to appropriate from the sum raised under article No. 34 the amount of One hundred six dol- lars ($106.00) to reimburse for an overdraft for labor performed under W. P. A. poject for painting warning signs in 1936.


Article 75. Voted NOT to elect the Selectmen and Board of Public Welfare to serve for terms of three years.

Article 76. Voted NOT to discontinue the Stop and Go lights at the corner of Howard and East Water Street.


Article 77. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of Four hundred dollars ($400.00) to pay for the expense of heating, lighting, gas and removal of garbage in the Mc- Kinley School Building when the building is used by the Nursery, Sewing and Recreational projects of the Works Progress Administration.


Under article 77. Voted to request School Department to have intsalled separate meters to measure light used by Nursery, Sewing and Recreational projects at McKin- ley School.


A motion to reconsider Article No. 18 was not agreed to.


Sense of meeting votes:


Voted that, when work is finished, all plans and speci- fications used in the construction of seepage bed and attachments to the sewage disposal plant of the Junior- Senior High School, shall be filed in the office of the School Department.


Voted that the Finance Committee be extended a vote of thanks of the meeting for their untiring efforts in investigating the matters to be brought before the town meeting and the able manner in which the information was placed before the meeting. Unanimous vote.


Voted to pay Election Officials the usual fees.


Article 78. A Subsequent Meeting for the Election of Town Officers was held in the Rockland Opera House, Savings Bank Building, on Monday, March 8th, 1937. The polls opened at 5:45 A. M. and closed at 4:00 P. M. The result was as follows:

TOWN OF ROCKLAND


SPECIAL TOWN MEETING SEPTEMBER 9, 1937


Pursuant to the warrant a meeting was held in the Rockland Opera House, Thursday, Sept. 9, 1937, begin- ning at 7:30 o'clock P. M. and the following votes were passed and action taken.


The meeting was called to order at 7:30 P. M. by the Moderator.


The warrant and Constables return of service thereof was read by the Town Clerk.


Upon question of a quorum the Moderator appointed the following tellers to count the number of voters present and they were sworn by the Town Clerk.


Tellers appointed :. Archie F. Minnis, Alton Lyon and Norman J. Beals.


The tellers reported that there were 211 voters pres- ent at the meeting.


The Moderator ruled that in conformity with a by-law of the town no appropriation of money could be made unless 300 voters were present.


Voted to recess until 8:00 o'clock P. M.


At 8 P. M. the meeting was again called to order and a count of the voters present made by the tellers. They reported 238 voters present.


Voted to recess until 8:25 o'clock P. M.

At 8:25 P. M. the meeting was again called to order and a count of the voters present made by the tellers and they reported 262 voters present.


Then at 8:30 o'clock P. M. it was voted that the meet- ing be adjourned until 7:30 o'clock P. M., Tuesday, Sep- tember 14, 1937.


ADJOURNED MEETING, SEPT. 14, 1937


The meeting was called to order at 7:30 P. M. by the Moderator.


A count of the voters present was made by the tellers and they reported 340 voters present.


The Moderator ruled a quorum was present and action called for under the articles in the warrant could be taken.


Article 1. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of Sixteen Hundred Fifty-Six Dollars ($1,656.00) as part payment for material to be used in the Sewing Project of the W. P. A.


Article 2. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of Four Thousand Dollars ($4,000.00) to pay for the cost of materials and overhead expense of the W. P. A.


Article 3. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of Thirty-Five Hundred Dollars ($3,500.00) for the payment of town notes and interest.


Then at 8:00 o'clock P. M. Voted to adjourn.
