CONCLUSION
We have placed before you a record of activities, changes in personnel improvements in the system and other material which we hope has given you an understanding of our aims, our hopes and our problems. We are grateful to you, the tax- payers of the community for all that you have done, and we hope that we may have your support in our plans to improve and expand the educational program.
To the Southbridge School Committee with whom it has been a pleasure to work, to the hard-working staff, to all who have contributed in any way to the year's achievement, I close this report in an expression of appreciation.
Respectfully submitted, ROBERT L. FOX Superintendent of Schools

SELECTMEN'S REPORT
To the Citizens of the Town of Southbridge:
The Board organized March 7, 1956. Dr. Armand O. De- Grenier was appointed Chairman of the Board, Wesley K. Cole was appointed Clerk of the Board, and Royce Fitzpatrick serv- ing as third member of the Board.
An investigation after the resignation of the former Assist- ant Clerk for discrepancy in the Town funds was instituted. Through the assistance of the State Auditors and the Chief of Police, satisfactory settlements were made. Mrs. Jean W. Ear- nest was appointed Assistant Executive Clerk of the Board to fill this vacancy.
Frequent visits to Boston to the Department of Public Works and Department of Waterways by the Board, with the help of our Representative, Leo J. Cournoyer and Senator Paul H. Benoit, to make them successful, to facilitate the rehabili- tation of our bridges, roads, and brooks.
We were also successful in our interviews with the State Department for getting the necessary reimbursements for the Town of Southbridge, as a result of the 1955 Flood devastation.
The renovation in the rear of the Town Hall offices was done the T. P. Morin, Painting Contractor; the repair of the roof on the Town Hall Building by the Southbridge Roofing Co .; the purchase of the Sand Bank in Sturbridge, Mass., from Wilfred Pontbriand on September 10, 1956, with acreage of 11.4 acres; at the request of business people from Mechanic Street and Charlton Street, and through the help of Congressman Phil- ip J. Philbin, Representative Leo J. Cournoyer, and Senator Paul H. Benoit, and with the courtesy of the American Optical Co., we were able to obtain a Bailey Bridge on the Mechanic Street side, from the U. S.
