VOTED: except that the Town shall not take 828 square feet, more or less, from Antoni & Walter Ciesla, the Town al- ready having voted to purchase same by vote of Special Town Meeting of October 15, 1956 and having appropriated $2,4500.00 therefor.

VOTED: to accept the report of the Board of Selectmen as to the new layout and relocation of a section of a public way known as River Street at and/or about the junction of said Street with the Quinebaug River; all as per Plan dated Decem- ber 12, 1955, showing land necessary for bridge reconstruction now on file in the office of the Town Clerk, and voted to author- ize the Selectmen to take by eminent domain under Chapter 79 and other provisions of the General Laws of the Common- wealth, easements in such parcels of land as may be necessary to effectuate the Plan and any amendments or changes to be made to said Plan on file in the Town Clerk's Office, and voted that $100.00 be taken from the Excess and Deficiency Account to pay for damages and expenses that may be incurred due to the taking of easements in the parcels of land hereinafter de- scribed as parcels 1, 2, C-1, C-2, C-3, C-4, C-5, TR-1 and TR-2. VOTED: to accept the report of the Board of Selectmen as to the new layout and relocation of a section of a public way known as Central Street at and/or about the junction of said Street with the Quinebaug River; all as per Plan dated Septem- ber 27, 1956, showing land necessary for bridge reconstruction now on file in the office of the Town Clerk, and to authorize the Selectmen to acquire or take by eminent domain under Chapter 79 of the General Laws of the Commonwealth easements in such parcels of land as may be necessary to effectuate the Plan and any amendments or changes to be made to said Plan on file in the Town Clerk's office, and voted that $100.00 be taken from the Excess and Deficiency Account to pay for damages and ex- penses that may be incurred due to the taking of easements in the parcels of land hereinafter described as parcels 1, 2, 3, C-1, C-2, C-3.

TOWN WARRANT -DECEMBER 20, 1956 COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS


Worcester, ss:


To either of the Constables of the Town of Southbridge, in the County of Worcester:


In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, you are hereby requested to notify and warn the inhabitants of the Town of Southbridge aforesaid qualified to vote in Town Af- fairs, to meet in the Town Hall of Southbridge on Thursday, De- cember 20, 1956 at 7:30 P. M. to act on the following articles:


Article 1. To see if the Town will vote to transfer the sum of $90.45 (Ninety Dollars and forty-five cents) from the Fire De- partment Out of State Travel Account to the New Addition for Ambulance Garage Account, or act anything thereon.


Article 2. To see if the Town will vote to transfer the sum of $59.55 (Fifty-nine Dollars and fifty-five cents) from the Fire Department Out of State Travel Account to the Ambulance Expense Account, or act anything thereon.

Article 3. To see if the Town will vote to transfer the sum of $500.00 (Five Hundred Dollars) from the Premature Births Account to the Tuberculosis and Contagious Account, or act. anything thereon.


Article 4. To see if the Town will vote to transfer the sum of $2,380.65 (Two Thousand Three Hundred Eighty Dollars and sixty-five cents) from the State Reimbursement Flood Abate- ments Account to the Overlays 1955 Account as recommended by the Division of Accounts. This amount was paid by the State as a reimbursement on Real Estate and Personal Property Taxes caused by the flood of August 19, 1955, or act anything. thereon.


Article 5. To see if the Town will vote to transfer the sum of $700.00 (Seven Hundred Dollars) from the Rubbish Collection: Account to the Road Machinery Maintenance Account, or act anything thereon.


Article 6. To see if the Town will vote to transfer the sum, of $55.27 (Fifty-Fve Dollars and twenty-seven cents) to the Globe Village Fire Station, Disabled Veterans' Account to cover the Overdrawn Account, or act anything thereon.


Article 7. To see if the Town will vote to transfer the sum of $182.31 (One Hundred Eighty-Two Dollars and thirty-one cents) to the Insurance Account to cover Outstanding Insurance Bills, or act anything thereon.


Article 8. To see if the Town will vote to transfer the sum of $333.13 (Three Hundred Thirty-Three Dollars and thirteen cents) from the Town Hall Alterations and Repairs Account to the Selectmen's Expense Account, or act anything thereon.


Article 9. To see if the Town will vote to transfer the sum of $367.00 (Three Hundred Sixty-seven Dollars) to the Garbage. Collection Account, or act anything thereon.


Article 10. To see if the Town will vote to hear, act on and accept the report of the Selectmen as to the laying out as a pub- lic way a certain street to be known as Glenwood Street, com- mencing on the northerly sideline of Old Sturbridge Road, thence easterly for a distance of six hundred and ten and sev- enty-four hundredths (610.74) feet, or act anything thereon.


Article 11. To see if the Town will vote to hear, act on and accept the report of the Selectmen as to laying out as a public way a certain street to be known as Fairview Avenue, com- mencing on the easterly side of Charlton Street, thence easterly for a distance of two hundred and fifty (250) feet, or act any- thing thereon.

Article 12. To see if the Town will vote to hear, act on and accept the report of the Selectmen as to the laying out as a pub- lic way a certain street to be known as Brook Road, commenc- ing on the easterly line of the 1940 layout of Brook Road, thence easterly for a distance of one hundred and fifty (150) feet, or act anything thereon.


Article 13. To see if the Town will vote to hear, act on and accept the report of the Selectmen as to the laying out as a pub- lic way a certain street to be known as Idlewood Street, com- mencing on the northeasterly side of Glenwood Street, thence, easterly for a distance of two hundred and fifty-four (254) feet, or act anything thereon.


Article 14. To see if the Town will vote to adopt the fol- lowing By-Law, to be known as "Section 2 of Article XIV" of the Town By-Laws: The Selectmen may license suitable per- sons to carry on the business of pawnbrokers in the Town, and may revoke such licenses at their pleasure, all as provided by Chapter 140 of the General Laws of the Commonwealth.


Article 15. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Board of Selectmen to release, grant or convey to the Strand Realty Corp., the portion of easement, accepted by vote under Article 9 of the Special Town Meeting held June 1, 1926, on which the present theater building owned by said Strand Realty Corp., now encroaches; said portion of easement consisting of a width of two (2) feet, more or less, and a length of eighty- seven (87) feet, more or less; this release to be made upon pay- ment of $100 (One Hundred Dollars) to the Town of South- bridge and that all other expenses such as recording fees, etc., be paid by the Strand Realty Corp., and provided also that said Strand Realty Corp. give to the Town of Southbridge for re- cording, a confirmation of said reciprocal easement of six (6) feet, excluding that portion to be released by the Town of Southbridge as aforesaid which was originally granted to the Town but not recorded in the Worcester District Registry of Deeds, or act anything thereon.


Article 16. To see if the Town will vote to create the posi- tion of Sewerage Treatment Plant Operator, and that this clas- sification be listed in the Griffen-Hagen Report accepted by the Town Meeting held March 8, 1954, that this classification pay the minimum rate of $4,000 and the maximum of $5,000, and further to see if the Town will vote to raise and appropri- ate, borrow or transfer a sum of $4,000 for this purpose, or act anything thereon.


Article 17. To see if the Town will vote to strike out and make null and void all of Section 6 of Article III of the Town By-Laws, which reads as follows: "One hundred and fifty reg-

istered voters at any town meeting for the transaction of busi- ness shall constitute a quorum. A motion to adjourn shall not require a quorum"; and substitute therefor and adopt the fol- lowing wording which shall be known as Section 6 of Article III of the Town By-Laws: One hundred registered voters at any town meeting for the transaction of business shall consti- tute a quorum. A motion to adjourn shall not require a quorum.


You are directed to serve this warrant by posting up at- tested copies in six (6) conspicuous places within the Town at least seven (7) days before holding said meeting.
