ANNUAL TOWN MEETING - MARCH 12, 1956
FIRST WARRANT
Meeting called to order at 7:10 P. M. by Moderator Rosario Normandin.
VOTED: That the reading of the warrant be dispensed with.
Motion made and seconded and carried:
VOTED: That we wait for the Selectmen and the mem- bers of the Finance Committee.
VOTED: to accept the recommendation of the Finance Committee as a motion unless another one (motion) is from the floor.

Article 1.
VOTED: that the Southbridge Airport Commission, with the approval of the Board of Selectmen, be authorized to execute an amendment to the existing airport lease, said amendment to incorporate additional land to be acquired by the Town and all other airport improvements to be made under authority of this vote and to provide for an increase in rent of $25,500.00 during the original term of this lease, without chang- ing renewal options under present lease, said rent to be pre- paid by Southbridge Development Co., lessee, and to be con- tingent upon the Town making an appropriation, acquiring ad- ditional land and doing the work herein specified; that the pre- payment of said rent be made or transferred to an existing ac- count known as the Airport Maintenance Account; that the Town appropriate by transfer from said Airport Maintenance Account the sum of $10,000.00 for the purchase and/or taking by eminent domain of land of Mckinstry Ice Co. on the east side of Pleasant Street in Southbridge, and comprising 50 acres more or less, in order to extend runways, and that the Town ap- propriate by transfer from said Airport Maintenance Account the sum of $15,500.00 for the purpose of extending and con- structing runways, installing lights, constructing taxiways, re- locating highway, constructing entrance road, apron, and do- ing any other construction that may be necessary as per plans acceptable to the United States Government and the Common- wealth of Massachusetts; that the total sum of $25,500.00 so ap- propriated be used in conjunction with funds of the United States Government totaling approximately $51,000.00, and funds of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, totaling approxi-

mately $25,500.00, for the purposes herein enumerated; that the work be done by contract under the supervision of Southbridge Airport Commission unless Federal or State Authorities decide otherwise, and then in the manner so decided; that failure to obtain Federal and State funds within 12 months shall void the amendment to the lease, but not the lease itself, at the option of Southbridge Development Co., and that in the event of such failure and exercise of option by Southbridge Development Co., the lessee shall be entitled to reimbursement for the full amount of prepaid rent.

IN MEMORIAM
It is fitting that we recognize, in a public way and have recorded in the public records of the Town Meeting of the Town of Southbridge, the sterling qualities of a man who served us faithfully in the office of the Board of Public Welfare for eighteen years, during which time he was a splendid example of what a person who serves the public should exemplify.
