Att a Legal Meeting of the inhabitants of Wenham held by adjournment on Friday the 2th Day of Dec 1803 for the pur- pose of receiving the Report of the Committee Relative to Mr Popkin giveing his answer to the Town on his being their Minister in answer to the Town he gave the following answer in Town Meeting-in the Negative.

To the inhabitants of the Town of Wenham I have Duly Received from your Committee your Vote Relating to myself Considering the Violent opposition which is made to them I cannot hesitate a moment in Regard to the Dictates of Pru- dence and Propriety you all will undoubtedly anticipate that I must Decline the Proposal which they contain, my Friends will Please to except my sincere thanks for the proof they have given me of their esteem and all will Permit me to Pray that on so serious a subject they may be governed by pure and peaceful spirity of Christianity

WENHAM TOWN REPORTS


conveined on Monday the 19th Day of Dec"r 1803. agreeable to a warrant from the Selectmen of said Town & a pelition from the Committee relating to the Laying out of a New Road in the western Part of sd. Town on file May More fully appear Cap® Palatiah Brown Moderator of said Meeting Ist Votd to instruct the Committee of the Town to oppose the report of the Viewing Committee of the Court of Session at their. Next Term on the Petition of Joseph Chapman & others Praying for a Road through the Western part of this Town by all Lawful Means.
