This Indenture Witnisseth that Same1 Blanchard Esq Capt John Dodge and Luit Paul Porter overseers of the Poor of the Town of Wenham in the County of Essex by virtue of a Law of the Commonwealth In such case made and Pro- vided have placed and by these Presents Do place and bind out as an apprentice a Poor Boy William Wyatt aged Eight years the Eleventh of November last past unto Bartholomew Wallis of Beverly in said County. the said William to dwell with and faithfully to serve the said Wallis after the man- ner of an apprentice until he arrives at the age of Twenty one years and the said Bartholomue wallis on his part doth hereby promise Covenant and agree to take and instruct the Sd. apprentice or cause him to be taught and instructed in the art Trade or Calling of a Cordwainer also to read write and Cipher as far as the rule of three if the said ap- prentice be capable to learn likewise to find and provide good and sufficient meat drink clothing and lodging and all other nessaries both in sickness and in health suitable for the Sd apprentice During the term of his apprenticship and at the expiration there of to give unto said apprentice one good new and Complete suit of Clothes Besides his common waring apparil.

Att a meeting of the Qualified voters of the Town of wen- ham In the County of Essex on the tenth Day of may 1808 in order to Choose a meet person to represent them in the General Court of the Commonwealth for the Current year and other business as by warrant may more fully appear and then Sam11 Blanchard was unamiously chosen to rep- resent this Town in the General Court of this Common- wealth the Current year then made choise of Sam11 Blanch- ard as moderator of said meeting.


It was put to vote to see what sum or sums of money the Town would vote to repair the highways the current year. In addition to two hundred Dollars voted at april meeting and it passed in the negative.

This Indenture vitnesseth that Samuel Blanchard Richard Hood and William Brown overseers of the poor of the Town of Wenham in the County of Essex State of Massachusetts by virtue of a law of this Commonwealth in such cases

made and provided have placed and by these presents do place and bind out as an apprentice a poor Child by the name of - Wyett son of Hannah Wyett who is an in- habitant of said Town and who is likely to become charge- able to said Town of Wenham and who his thought by the said overseers to be inable of maintaining him unto William Dodge son of John T. Dodge of the same town to learn such art or trade as the Sd Dodge together with said overseers or their successors in office Shall agree to or such compensation make to him the said wyatt shall be here after mentioned the said Wyatt after the manner of an apprentice to dwell with and serve the said Dodge from the day of the date here of until the Twenty third day of October which will be in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and twenty five when the said Wyatt if he be then liveing will be twenty one years of age during which time the Sd apprentice his Master shall well and truly serve, his secrets keep and his lawful commands every were readily obey he shall do no damage to his master nor suffer any to be done by others and if any to his knowledge shall be intended. he shall give his Master reasonable notice thereof, he shall not lend or waste the goods of the Sd Master. at cards or dice he shall not play, fornication he shall not commit nor mat- rimony contract during the sd term taverns, ale houses or places of gameing he shall not visit, from the service of his said master he shall not absent himself but in all things and at all times he shall carry & be have himself good faithful apprentice ought during the time or time afore said


And the said William Dodge on his part doth hereby prom- ise and agree to teach and instruct the said apprentice or cause him to be taught or instructed in the art trade or call- ing which shall be agreeable by the present overseers of the poor or their successors in office, that the said Dodge shall pay or cause to be paid the sum of one hundred dollars into the sd apprentice when he shall have arrived at the full period of twenty one years of age and it is understood that the sd apprentice is to have his choice whenever he shall have arrived at the time of his being the age of fourteen to choose the sum as mentioned of one hundred Dollars or a trade to be settled and agreed on as afore said the said Dodge on

his part further agrees to teach the sd Wyatt or cause him to be taught or instructed to read write and cypher as far as the rule of three if the sd apprentice be capable of larning and shall well & truly find and provide for the sd apprentice Wyatt good sufficient meat drink Clothing & lodging and other necessaries fit and convenient for such an apprentice during the term afore said and at the expiration of his ap- prenticeship he shall be furnished with a suit of Cloathes in addition to his Common wearing apparel.
