William1 Ripley, his wife, two sons and two daughters, came from Wymondham, County of Norfolk, England, in the ship Diligent and settled in Hingham, Mass., in 1638. He was the son of William Ripley of Wymondham who

made his will Aug. 31, 1619, which was probated Feb. 17, 1619/20. The name of the first wife of Wm. Ripley, the immigrant, has not been discovered. He married (2) in Hingham, Sept. 29, 1654, Elisabeth Thaxter, widow of Thomas Thaxter. She died July 17, 1660. He died in Hingham, July 20, 1656. Among his four children was:

William T. Robbins came from Camden, Me. He was the son of Almon and Lovina (Decker) Robbins, and was born Nov. 1, 1852. Thomas1 Tolman was born in England in 1608. He came to Dorchester, Mass., in the ship Mary and John in 1630, and afterward owned land from the seaside to the Dedham line. He also owned land in what is now Canton, Stoughton and Sharon. His name is appended to the Church Covenant made in 1636. He was freeman May 13, 1640. Here he bought the north-westerly part of the island (140 acres) from Alexander Nickels, Jr. He married (3) Nov. 7, 1796, Jane Philbrook, daughter of Job and Mary (Trufant) Philbrook. He died at Matinicus, Nov. 15, 1825, aged 104 years. Children by 1st wife:

He died Nov. 24, 1884. He married (1) Martha Watson, who took cold upon her wedding-day and died within a week. He married (2) Jan. 1, 1828, Sallie Roberts, daughter of James and Sarah (Hall) Roberts, of Vinalhaven. She was born Nov. 5, 1807, and died Sept. 22, 1861. He married (3) Mar. 15, 1866, Ellen Connick. She was born May 12, 1827, and died Oct. 24, 1882. Chil- dren by Sallie Roberts :

He was brought up in the family of Isaac and Eunice Tolman, at Matinicus. He married, Apr. 1828, Thirza St. Clair, daughter of James and Sarah (Wiggin) St. Clair of South Thomaston. She was born June 2, 1808. They resided at Matinicus for a number of years and then removed to South Thomaston. He died Dec. 2, 1893. She died Dec. 2, 1873. Children were :
