FLUSHING ( LATER CALLED NEW YORK) MONTHLY MEETING. (H) The date of estab- lishment of this K.l ... and that of Westbury cannot be exactly determined, as their beginnings were vague and indefinite, their early sessions irregular and infrequent, and few minutes recorded. In vol. 1001, below noted, a minute with- out date but apparently in 1672, states

"To begin heare, concluding that all meetings Called men and womens Jeneral meetings were Quarterly meetings wheather So named or No until Monthly meetins be named".

Even after the minutes of Flushing L.N. became frequent, marriage intentions were often declared at the Q.1 . or first at a M.M. and second at a Q.1. by

1632 the two L.L's. which later bore the names of Flushing and Westbury, appear well establishel, as vor the following portion of the minutes of what seems to be the Q.1 .. in 6th Jonth, 1682.

"ffriends of ye monthly meeting of New Yorke and Gravesend doo agree yt ye monthy meeting is to be keept at Yorke two month following & ye 3d at Graves end the first Meeting att Graves end to be ye first fourth day in the 6th mo & soe sucksesifly friends at this meeting hath left unto ye consideration of friend at ye monthly meet- ing at oysterbay ye sattling of ye meeting of friend at ye farmes & yt woodedg whether it be conventient or not for them to be in two settled meeting or not" ( The "farmes" was the early name for Jericho, and "Hoodedg" was Westbury" ) .

The following Q.K. minute settles still more definitely the jurisdiction cf Flushing Noli

"The 20th day of ye 3d mo . 1684 Then agreed by friends at this meeting yt ffriend's at Yorke Gravesend and Flushing & Westchester ye kills and Newtown doe all be- longe uito one Monthly meeting to remain at Gravesend at ye 4th month quarterly meeting & soe to continue by their own appointing wt place they see convenient after" .

The minutes have been recorded regularly each month from about 1685. It was always held at Flushing from 1695 till 8th L'onth 6, 1742; then at Flushing and Newton till 6th lo. 1, 1768; then at Flushing, Newtown and New York till 11th Ko. 1, 1780, then twice at New York and once at Flushing.
