When Mr. Baldwin and Mr. Flagg decided to enter the busi- ness for themselves tliey interested Dr. Hamilton, Mr. E. Steven- son and a number of others and incorporated the present firm.


Today, after only two years' existence, they have built a business which extends all over the civilized world.


Their tools comprise a full line of portable electrical drills and grinders and they are one of the pioneers in the perfection of these tools to operate on alternating or direct current.

The Buob & Kimmerle Machine Co. is one of the best known firms in its line in Cincinnati and enjoys an excellent rating in the business world. Messrs. Louis Buob, Albert Kimmerle and Fred Buob, the proprietors, are all expert machine men and deserve much credit for the pronounced success they have made of this business. The Brunhoff Manufacturing Co. gives employment to one hundred and fifty people at its large plant, southwest corner Freeman avenue and Ninth street, where are manufactured many different kinds of metal specialties for advertising purposes, such as match stands, cigar cutters, etc. This concern also enjoys a large trade throughout the entire country on its elec- trical devices, and novelties in wood and glass. The liquor and tobacco interests of the country are especially large patrons of this house. Besides the main Cincinnati plant large branch offices are maintained in Chicago, which is an important dis- tributing center in this line. Edward Brunhoff is President and Geo. W. Noyes, Secretary and Treasurer.


THE LAMMERS ENGRAVING CO.


The Lammers Engraving Co., 711-721 Sycamore street, estab- lished in 1890 by Bernard Fiecke, enjoys an extensive trade in fine art and engraving work.


This concern was originally started as a part of the business of Knight & Co., old Civil War time printers.


In 1909 Mr. A. H. Lammers became a partner of Mr. Fiecke's and the business was continued under the name of Fieeke & Lammers till 1914, when Mr. Fiecke sold his entire interest to Mr. Lammers, who incorporated the present firm. The reason Mr. Fiecke disposed of his interests to Mr. Lammers was his other business required all his time.


This new firm is under the personal direction of Mr. A. H. Lammers and he attends to all details.


Mr. Lammers is one of Cincinnati's younger boosters and is a member of the Chamber of Commerce.


The firm makes zinc etchings and halftones and are pio- neers in the new color process work, and they are serving some of the largest users in this line. Their big specialty is color illustrations for catalog work.

The Mellvain & Spiegel Boiler and Tank Co., established in 1854, is one of the country's large manufacturers of boilers, tanks and grain cookers. This concern enjoys an enormous business, which extends throughout the entire United States and Mexico. It makes a specialty of stationery and marine boilers, most steamers plying the Ohio River having been fitted out by it. John B. Scheibly is President; Wm. L. SCHMIESING'S GARDEN,


The fame of Schmiesing's Gar- den, located at the intersection of Gilbert and Blair avenues, is not confined to Cincinnati by any means, for this place is celebrat- ed as an outing place and each year finds more and more people from outside points giving their quiet even- ing parties here. Schmiesings is open the year around. Among the amusements are bowling, bil- liards and pool, and there also is a special concert season extending from May 15th to October 1st. The garden was established in 1888 by Fred Schmiesing, Sr., and now is conducted in faultless style by Fred Schmiesing, Jr. To reach Schmiesing's one takes the Gilbert Avenue, Vine and Norwood, or Norwood electric cars.

THE CINCINNATI LITHOGRAPHING CO.


The Cincinnati Lithographing Company was originally estab- lished as a partnership in 1875 and continued as such until 1880, when it was incorporated under an Ohio charter.


In 1882 the present name was adopted and the business has been in continuous operation for 39 years.


On Sunday morning, July 24, 1910, the plant was completely destroyed by fire. Within four days' time the concern had secured quarters and were running again at Flint and Faulkner streets.


In December, 1911, ground was broken for their present modern factory building, situated at the southeast corner of Findlay and Providence streets. With light on three sides, their factory facilities are unexcelled.


They have a reputation second to none for turning out high- class stationery, labels and color work, which are distributed throughout the Central and Southern States.


The present officers are Wm. T. Bossard, President; Frank J. Meister, First Vice-President; Edwin F. Langerman, Second Vice-President; O. W. Brackman, Secretary.

The Geise Cigar Box Co., 1424-1426 Clay street, was estab- lished March 3, 1899, by Benj. Geise and George Leikauf at 111 East Canal street. After three years at that address and ten years at 21 East Canal street, the firm moved to its present quarters, a four-story brick building erected especially to meet the requirements of this business. In 1906 Mr. Geise's interest was acquired by Leonard and John, sons of George Leikauf. This concern has a capacity of 20,000 boxes a week and its trade extends throughout Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and West Virginia, both in boxes and in cigar ribbons and labels. of which it is an extensive jobber. Mr. George Leikauf is a thorough master of this business, having followed it for forty-five years.

Moran Bros. Co., 112 West Sixth street, has been a popular center for meats, poultry, etc., since 1870, when the business was founded by T. B. Moran, farther down Sixth street, between Elm and Plum streets. Twenty-six years ago H. W. Moran, son of T. B. Moran, succeeded his father as proprietor of the busi- ness and moved to the present quarters four years later. In 1910 the store building was completely remodeled and a thor- oughly modern refrigerating plant extending even to the display windows was installed, thus keeping meats at all times in per- fect condition. Wholesale Silks.


The firm of Collins, Hanselmann & Co., 300-302 Walnut street, wholesalers of spool silks, ribbons, silk fabrics and velvets, was established in 1908 by Messrs. C. F. Collins and F. L. Hansel- mann, both old men in the business, Mr. Collins having been connected with the Belding Silk Co. for twenty-one years, and Mr. Hanselmann with the Corticelli Silk Co. for seventeen years. This concern started in a very small way in the Carlisle Building and now does a business well up in the five figures. It is central and southern selling agents for the Eureka and Hammond-Knowlton Silk Mills. Mr. P. W. Johnson, also a member of the firm, joined the above named gentlemen some time after the original organization, he having been prior to that time with the Corticelli Silk Co. for twelve years.

Manufacturer of Surveying and Engineering Instruments.


Wm. H. Pfister, 230 West Fourth street, has long been known as a leading as well as an absolutely reliable manufacturer of sur- veying and engineering instruments and inventor's models. He has been established in business for over forty-five years and gives his personal supervision to all work turned out, thereby being able to assure patrons of absolute accuracy-and essential not to be ignored in this line. Mr. Pfister also does repairing of surveying, engineering, architectural and builders' instruments, and cameras as well.


CINCINNATI ELEVATOR WORKS.

Eighteen years ago, in 1896, Mr. Michael J. Quigley estab- lished the Cincinnati Elevator Works at 216 West Second street, manufacturing hand-power, steam, hydraulic and electric freight elevators, dumb waiters, invalid lifts, carriage and automobile hoists, fire doors and safety gates.


In 1898 Mr. Fred N. Meyer was made chief engineer and Mr. Harry C. Ahlers shop foreman.


At the death of Mr. Michael J. Quigley in the year of 1911 the business was incorporated, and Mr. F. N. Meyer was made President, H. C. Ahlers, Vice-President, and Jos. D. Quigley, son of the late Michael J. Quigley, Secretary and Treasurer. They concentrated their united energies in such a manner that in the course of one year they had acquired the property at 212 and 214 West Second street, doubling the capacity of their original plant.


Their motto has always been, "Quality at an honest price." This has put this concern among the leading elevator builders of the country.


The reputation of this concern and its product is without a blemish.

PRESBYTERIAN BOARD OF PUBLICA- TION AND SABBATH SCHOOL WORK.


Also Known as Westminster Book Store, Successor to Western Tract Society.


This great business, located at No. 420 Elm street, Cin- cinnati; also- Philadelphia, Chicago, New York, Nashville, San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Portland and Toronto, is devoted to the sale and distribution of religious and secular literature. It was established in this country one hundred years ago. by the Pres- byterian Church and now does a business in excess of one million dollars a year, its trade extending throughout the entire United States and Canada. The profits of the business are given to establishing Sunday Schools in neglected fields, which are not bound to any church.


One hundred and thirty-one workers in the field are sup- ported, and during last year 1,056 Mission Sabbath Schools were established, enrolling 37,000 people; 5,081 schools were aided. 10,000,000 pages of literature were distributed, together with 26,000 religious books. The public's liberal patronage has largely made this possible, it being of interest to note that the Cincin- nati house is patronized by Protestant, Catholic and Jew alike.

In Cincinnati, O., is an establishment which would require mention in any center in which it was located. We are speaking of the Rudolph Sattler Co., who are located at 220 East Fourth street.


The business was established in 1905 and has grown to be known all over the United States. It was established by Messrs. Rudolph Sattler and Chas. F. King. It was known as the Chas. F. King Co. until 1913, when it took the present firm name, Mr. Rudolph Sattler now being the sole proprietor.


The Rudolph Sattler Co. has the largest copper and steel plate engraving plant in the West and employ 65 persons, who specialize on engraved wedding invitations, social and business stationary. They have twenty presses devoted exclusively to this high grade work.


This is the only firm in the Queen City who are equipped to handle this work in a large way. Some idea of the capacity of this plant is given the lay mind by the fact they are equipped to make 70,000 impressions per day.


So few people really know how this class of work is done that a trip through this model factory is a revelation, and visitors are always welcome.

This concern was established in 1911 and now is housed in a modern $35,000 structure, and owns delivery trucks to the value of $40,000, which are for rent by the hour, day, week, month or year. Hardwood Lumber.


The John Dulweber Company are manufacturers of hard- wood lumber, wholesaling exclusively, doing both a domestic and export business, two large distributing yards being main- tained at Cincinnati, the one located on McLean avenue extend- ing from Findlay street to Sherman avenue, the other located along the C., N. O. & T. P. Railroad, between Bank street and the Harrison avenue viaduct. On these yards are carried a stock of approximately 10,000,000 feet of hardwoods.


The principal office of the company is also located at Cin- cinnati at the southwest corner of Findlay and MeLean avenue.


The principal operations of the company are in the South, where are' located its several mills from which most of its business is shipped direct. The Mississippi mill, operated by this concern, is generally admitted the most modern in operation in the world.


Branch offices are maintained at Detroit, Mich., Chicago, Ill., and Morehead, Miss.

SECOND NATIONAL BANK.


The Second National Bank, located at Ninth and Main streets, has a capital of $1,000,000. Its officers are C. A. Bosworth, President; F. L. Cook, Vice-President, and Charles W. Dupuis, Cashier.


The Second National Bank's method of computing interest on savings accounts is more advantageous to the depositors than that of most banks.


The rule according to which interest is calculated is as follows:


"Rule 3. In computing interest this bank figures on each month separately and allows interest on the minimum balance of cach month.


"Withdrawals are deducted from the balance at the beginning of the month; but if deposits have been made during the month and previous to the withdrawals, then the withdrawals are deducted from the balance after crediting such deposits. In no case are withdrawals deducted from the balance of previous months. However, no interest is allowed on accounts entirely withdrawn and therefore showing no balance at the interest period viz .: May 1st and November 1st."
