HARRY T. ATKINS.
President Ohio Mechanics' Institute.
Mr. Harry T. Atkins is a citizen of whom the Queen City is proud and that beyond any question of a doubt. His parents were of Irish parentage but he was born in the United States, March 26, 1849.
At the age of 18, after graduating from the Hughes High School, in this city, he entered the employ of the Perrin & Gaff Mfg. Co., where his inherent abilities carried him to the position of treasurer of the company.
He later joined the firms known as Pearce-Atkins & Co., and Henry Pearce's Sons. These firms were later succceeded by the Atkins & Pearce Mfg. Co., and The Deer Creek Mfg. Co., both of which Mr. Pearce is the president at the present writing.
He was married in Cincinnati in 1875 to Miss Anna Pearce and has two sons and two daughters. The sons, Henry Pearce Atkins and Frank Pearce Atkins, are identified with him in the business of which he is now the head, and his daugh- ters are Elizabeth Pearce Atkins and Cor- nelia Pearce Atkins.
Mr. Atkins is identified with all of the movements for the betterment of Cincinnati, and is President of The Ohio Mechanics' Institute, and Vice-President of the Young Men's Mutual Life Insur- ance Association.
He is a member of the Business Men's Club, of which he was president at onc time, and likewise of the Manufacturers' Club. The Ohio State Board of Commerce honored him by making him president for two terms; he is also a trustee of the Y. M. C. A.

Educated at Stella Matutina College, Feldkirch, Austria; en- tered the Society of Jesus, 1878; came to America 1885; went to England in 1889, made his theological studies at Ditton Hall, near Liverpool, and was ordained to the priesthood in 1892; returned to Amer- ica the following year; taught in Canis- ius College, Buffalo, N. Y., for five years; spent one year at St. Ignatius College, Cleveland, as professor of rhetoric; was called to Toledo in 1900. Has been iden- tified with the work of the Catholic Edu- cational Association and the American Federation of Catholic Societies.

At the age of eleven he enlisted as drummer in Captain Fleman Ball's Company, Second Kentucky Infantry, but was not allowed to go to the front on account of age. Aft- erward enlisted in Company H, 181st O. V. I. and served until close of war. One time Deputy Collector of Internal Reve- nue; twenty years with J. W. Born April 21, 1836, at Cincinnati, O .; son of Jeptha D. and Sarah Bella (Lud- low ) Garrard. Graduated from Yale Col- lege, 1858, with Lh. B. degree, and the following year completed a course at the Law School of Cincinnati, being grad- uated in 1859. The same year he was admitted to the bar and has since been a representative of the profession in his native city. During the Civil War he was with General Banks' army in Northern Virginia and with Burnside's army in North Carolina; in 1862 he was pro- moted to the rank of Major in the Third New York Cavalry and in 1863 was made Colonel of the First United States Col- ored Infantry. On March 13, 1865, was brevetted brigadier general of volunteers for gallant and meritorius conduct and continued in active service until the ter- mination of the war.

Employed as salesman for the Western Paint Co., 1894-5; salesman Indiana Paint Co., 1905-6. In 1906 organized the R. F. John- ston Paint Co., having associated with him his father, Robt. L. and brother, Wm. George Johnston. Member Chamber of Commerce, Business Men's Club, Rotary Club, National Credit Men's Association, Cincinnati Paint, Oil & Varnish Club, Scottish Rite, Syrian Temple Mystic Shrine, Cincinnati Chapter R. A. M., and others.

Born April 16, 1866, at Cincinnati. O .; son of Joseph and Elizabeth Busse. Educated at St. Mary's School. Cincin- nati. Employed as salesman by L. F. Wehrmann & Son, furniture dealers, for ten years; then spent ten years in the transfer business. With his brother-in- law, Mr. Henry Borgmann, he organized the undertaking business which has since been incorporated under the name of The Busse & Borgmann Co. He is also asso- ciated with the Brighton German Bank.
