Born March 15, 1868, in Cincinnati: son of Frederick C. and Catherine Busse. Father was born in Altona. Germany; came to Cincinnati in 1858; was member of the Ninth Ohio Volunteer Infantry dur- ing the Civil War; and afterwards served for eighteen years as head bookkeeper for Ackerland & Co. With others started the U. S. Varnish Company in 1883. Mother was born in Rheinpalz, Germany, and came to Cine'nnati when tive years old. Frederick C. Busse attended the public schools of Cincinnati and for two years the Woodward high school. Went to work as a boy with the U. S. Varnish Company and has remained with it ever since. Belongs to Carson Lodge, F. & A. M., Scottish Rite and Shrine; also member of the Cincinnati Gym Boat Club, and the Queen City Furniture Club. In 1896 was married to Miss Marie Le- Roux, a native of France.

Became associated shortly after this with the Farrin Lumber Company, and soon after the death of Mr. M. B. Farrin, in 1908, was made President of the company. Belongs to Queen City, Automobile, Busi- ness Men's and Cincinnati Gun Clubs, and is a member of the Naval and Military Order of the Spanish-American War. In 1902 married Ella Farrin, daughter of the late M. B. Farrin.

Born at Vienna, Austria, February 24, 1863; son of Ignatz and Nettie Gross- mann. Ancestry dates from the fifteenth century and is traced to the famous Rabbi Bezalel, Rabbi of Pargue, and one of the famous writers in the history of Jewish literature. Grandfather was Rabbi and Dayan in Pressburg and author of many works; father was prominent Rabbi and author; of the brothers, Rabbi Julius Grossmann is Rabbi in Ipoly Sagh, and author of a number of Commenaries to the Bible; Dr. Rudolph Grossmann, a graduate of the Hebrew Union College and University of Cincinnati and well- known Rabbi of Temple Rodef Shalon of New York City. Dr. Louis Grossman was educated in Cincinnati, being a graduate of University of Cincinnati and Hebrew Union College. Rabbi at Detroit, Mich., 1884-1898; in 1898 was called to the pul- pit of Plum Street Temple in association with the eminent Dr. Isaac M. Wise. In same year became Professor of Theology at Hebrew Union College. In 1909 found- ed Teachers' Institute for the training of religious teachers. Is Professor of Peda- gogy and Ethics of the Hebrew Union Col- lege. Author of "Judaism and the Science of Religion," London and New York; "Maimonides," London and New York; "Responses, Hymns and Prayers," "The Jewish Pulpit," "Songs of Israel," "The Real Life," "The Life and Works of Isaac M. Dr. E. R. Booth has been practicing osteopathy in Cincinnati since August, 1900. In June of that year he graduated from the American School of Osteopathy, Kirksville, Missouri. Before taking up the study of osteopathy Dr. Booth was a teacher. He had experience in almost every phase of school work as teacher and superitendent from the country school and primary grades to the university. He was a teacher in the St. Louis Manual Training School, the first of its kind and the one after which most of the manual training schools in this country are pat- terned. As principal of the Technical School of Cincinnati for ten years he be- came identified with the educational in- terests of Cincinnati and was one of the first in the manual training and voca- tional movement. Later the Technical School was merged with the University of Cincinnati and developed into its en- gineering departments.


Dr. Booth has always been an active worker in professional and civic organ-


izations. He has served as president of the Missouri State Teachers' Association, the Southwest Ohio Teachers' Associa- tion, the Manual Training Department of the National Educational Association, the American Osteopathic Association, the Ohio Osteopathic Society, the Miami Val- ley Osteopathic Society, and the Cincin- nati Chapter of the Ohio Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.


PHILIP C. FOSDICK.


President of the Cincinnati Gear Company, Cincinnati, Ohio.


A life-long resident of Cincinnati; son of James William and Louise Fosdick. Attended district schools and Hughes High School of Cincinnati. In 1887 or- ganized the Fosdick Machine Tool Com- pany, which is still one of Cincinnati's largest industries in that line. Was a member of the Seventy-second General Assembly, member and President of Board of Control for five years, and is at present Director of Public Service. Be- longs to Business Men's Club; Country Club; Automobile Club; Cincinnati Whist Club; Blaine Club and various Masonic bodies. Mr. Fosdick is the author of the" celebrated High Hat Bill passed by the Legislature of Ohio in 1896. Ohio being the first State to adopt this law.

Born March 23, 1881, at Black Creek. N. C .; son of Isaac B. and Nellie Bardin (nee Aycock). Attended high school ad- jacent to this early home at Black Creek, N. C., and later the Massey Institute at Richmond, Va. In 1900 he entered the coal business as an office assistant with the New River & Kanawha Fuel Co., at Richmond, Va .; in 1902 he resigned to accept a position with the sales organiza- tion of the C. & O. Coal & Coke Co., when that organization was in its infancy, and made such a remarkable record that he was placed in charge of the Chicago branch, succeeding in a short time to the general managership of the entire West- ern Division with headquarters in Cin- cinnati. In March, 1912, he again re- signed to assume complete charge of the sales organization of the Wyatt Coal Company, which was then a new venture and today stands forth as one of the largest and most successful corporations in the coal business. He is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Cincinnati Business Men's Club, Cincinnati Coal Chib, Hyde Park Business Men's Club and the Order of Ko-Koal. In 1903 he married Mayrie A. Tucker and has one child, Marjorie Nadine Bardin.

Charles A. J. Walker has been prac- ticing law for over twenty years, with his offices in the Johnston building. He was for many years associated with the late Judge John S. Conner. Is engaged in the general practice of law in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, and all the courts of the State of Ohio, as well as the courts of Kentucky, particularly Kenton County. He is a member of the Hamilton County and Ohio State Bar Associations, the Kenton County, Kentucky, Bar Associa- tion, and the National Bar Association. He belongs to the Queen City Club and the Fort Mitchell Country Club. He has been an active Mason and belongs to both the Knight Templar and Scottish Rite bodies. He is also an Odd Fellow. Mr. Walker is a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and takes an active part in church and charitable work.
