Mr. Waters was married in 1884 to Miss Jessie Fry, eldest daughter of Daniel Fry, of Watseka, Illinois. They have one son who is also connected with the Union Central Life Insurance. Born in Bandon County, Cork, Ireland, June 24. 1838; came to Cincinnati, 1847; learned the printing business with Caleb Clark and C. W. Starbuck, owners of the Ben Franklin job printing office. In January, 1867, the firm of Russell, Mor- gan & Co., was established; this firm later became the Russell Morgan Print- ing Co., and from it have grown United States Printing Co., and United States Playing Card Co., and the United States Lithographing Co. All three of these concerns are separate and distinct in their operations and each is the largest of its kind in the world. Mr. Morgan has been a director and offi- cer in each of these companies. Was first president Cincinnati Board of Police Commissioners and donor of the Morgan Medal awarded each year. Retired from active business, May, 1893. Is a Master Mason, 32nd degree Scottish Rite, and life member Cincinnati Lodge No. 5, B. P. O. E.

Born July 23, 1859, at Newport, R. I .: son of Lueins and Amelia Dawley Whit- aker. Attended Putnam Academy. Put- nam, Conn., and Lebanon Normal School, Lebanon. O. Was Superintendent of Public Schools twelve years. Learned the paper business with the Graham Pa- per Company of St. Louis, Mo. Organ- ized the Whitaker Paper Company of Cincinnati in 1903: incorporated in May of that year for $100,000, and at the pres- ent time has an authorized capital of $1,000,000, with important branches in Boston, Baltimore and Atlanta. Mr. Whitaker is a member of the Chamber of Commerce. Business Men's Club and the Cincinnati Country Club. He was mar- ried in Amesville, O .. June. 1882, to Emma D. Glazier and they have two children, Mrs. Robert B. Burch and Heury Dawley Whitaker.

Born November 10, 1867, at Cincin- nati, Ohio. Graduated from Hughes High School in 1885, and immediately entered the hosiery manufacturing concern of Dormer Brothers. At the death of Max Dormer, succeeded him to the presidency of the corporation. The Dormer Broth- ers Company, who have plants at Cincin- nati and New Richmond, Ohio.

Member of the Firm of Moch, Berman & Company, Manufacturers of Men's Clothing.


Mr. Moch was born in Cincinnati Jan- uary 1, 1855, and is a son of Elias and Emma Moch, who came from Alsace, France, in 1850. He acquired his primary education in the public schools of this city which he attended to his fifteenth year, atter which he spent two years as a student in the night law school. During the day time he was employed as a mes- senger boy in the private banking concern of Seasongood, Netter & Company. He was advanced from time to time until 1873 when he was sent with Albert Netter to take charge of the firm's New York branch bank located at 44 Exchange Place, that city. In 1875 he was given the posi- tion of cashier of the firm of J. & L. Seasongood & Company, manufacturers of clothing, of which firm his father was a member. In 1880 he organized the firm of which he is now the head, being asso- ciated with his brothers, Albert and Charles Moch, and Sam Berman, who still compose the firm. The new business block of this firm, located at Elm and McFarland streets, is the largest and best structure of the kind devoted to the man- ufacture of union-made clothing in the United States, the output being the widely known "Wellworth Dressy Clothing."


Mr. Moch is president of the National Automatic Fire Alarm Company of Cin- cinnati; treasurer of the Cincinnati Gas Transportation Company; director of the Cincinnati Gas & Electric Company; and director of the Citizens National Bank. Mr. Moch co-operates in many organized movements for the relief of the needy as well as giving largely to individual char- ity. He is now vice-president of the Home for the Jewish Aged and Infirm in Cin- cinnati and has given liberally to its financial support. He is a member of the Cuvier-Press Club, Business Men's Club, Phoenix Club, is an Elk; while in the Masonic fraternity he has attained the thirty-second degree of the Scottish Rite and is a member of the Mystic Shrine; is trustee of sinking fund of the Cincin- uati Gymnasium, Willis Chapter.


Married Miss Rosa lowman, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Lowman, of Cincinnati, November 14, 1883. Two sons, Edgard James, Yale graduate, class of 1909; and James Lowman, student of University of Cincinnati.


EUGENE VERNON OVERMAN.

Born January 31, 1860, at Overman, Highland County, Ohio; son of Elias and Ruth Anne (Reece) Overman. The Over- mans came from England to America about the time William Penn came to Pennsylvania. They first settled in Vir- ginia and migrated to North Carolina, coming to Ohio in 1801 and settling on what is still known as the Overman Es- tate, or Blinco Farms, Overman, High- land County, Ohio. Eugene Vernon Over- man was educated in country schools, high school of Hillsboro, Ohio, and the University of Wooster, Wooster, Ohio. He came to Cincinnati in 1885 and was engaged in the wholesale manufacture of vehicles for about twelve years before entering the firm of which he is now pres- ident. He is also secretary and general sales manager of the Western Spring & Axle Company and first vice-president the West End Bank & Trust Company, of Cincinnati.


LEVI ADDISON AULT.


Head of Ault & Wiborg Company. Largest Makers of Printers' Inks and Colors.


A native of Mills Roches, Ontaria, Can- ada, Mr. Ault was born November 24, 1851, a son of Simon W. and Caroline ( Brown- ell) Ault, the family tree being traceable back to Ault, Picardy, France. Received common school education, served five years as a bookkeeper and in 1878 began the manufacture of printers' inks on a small scale. The present Ault & Wiborg Company, largest concern of its kind in the world, is a monument to Mr. Ault's untiring efforts and sound business judg- ment. Republican, member Unitarian Church; member Commercial, Queen City and Country Clubs; director First Na- tional Bank; was first president of Cincin- nati park commission. In May, 1911, do- nated to city vast tract of land now known as Ault Park. Married Miss Ida May Holtzinger October 23, 1878; one son, Lee Brownell.

EDWARD COLSTON.

Born April 22, 1844, at Berkeley County, Va .; son of Edward and Sarah J. (Brock- enbrough ) Colston. Of English ancestry, the family coming from Bristol, England, and settling in Virginia prior to the American Revolution. Edward Colston was educated at home and at the Episco- pal High School, near Alexandria, Va. He graduated in law at Washington & Lee University, Lexington, Va. Came to Cincinnati in November, 1869; was ad- mitted to the bar by the Hamilton County District Court in 1870; in 1874 was ad- mitted to the firm of Hoadly, Johnson & Colston; in 1887 that firm was dissolved and the firm of Harmon, Colston, Gold- smith & Hoadly was formed, continuing the business of the former firm. Mr. Col- ston has remained a member of the latter firm to the present time. He is one of the attorneys of the C., C., C. & St. Louis Railway, the B. & O. S .- W. Railway, and has been general counsel of the Cinein- nati, New Orleans & Texas Pacific Railway Company since March, 1887. In Angust, 1862, he entered the military service of the Confederate States of America and served to the conclusion of the war. Hls service was in the cavalry corps of the Army of Northern Virginia. On the 6th of April, 1865, he lost his left arm at the battle of Sailor's Creek, Virginia. Is a member of the Queen City and Cincinnati Country Clubs.

JOSEPH DEBAR.

Mr. Joseph Debar, secretary of the Na- tional Wholesale Liquor Dealers' Associa- tion of America, though born in West Vir- ginia and a resident of Kentucky until his twenty-fifth year, has been practically a lifelong Cincinnatian.


In boyhood he lived at the home of his grandfather, Eugene Levassor, one of the early merchants of Cincinnati, who, upon retiring from business, made South Covington, Ky., his home.


Mr. Debar was educated at St. Xavier College in this city.


In 1873 he married Miss Ellen Dawson, a grand-daughter of Moses Dawson, one of the pioneer newspaper owners and edi- tors of Cincinnati.


Mr. Debar was for some years a mem- ber of the firm of Poland & Henry, Whole- sale Grocery & Liquor Merchants, of West Second Street. Later the firm was Po- land, Debar & Co., and, upon the death of Mr. Poland, the business was continued as J. Debar & Co.


In 1909 Mr. Debar became secretary of the National Wholesale Liquor Dealers' Association, with offices in the United Bank Building, Third and Walnut Streets, which position he still holds.


This Association is one of the most Important trade leagnes of the United States, comprising all the leading distil- lers and wholesale dealers of the country and affiliated with thirty-eight thoroughly organized State Associations.


Mr. Debar is widely known as a fluent writer ou subjects of interest to the or- ganization of which he is the secretary and general manager.

Was made president of the Peters Cartridge Company in 1911. He is a director of the Brighton German Bank Company, president of Bayrischer Maen- marcher, president Hamilton County Butchers' Society, and is active in Ger- man circles, being a member of numer- ous societies.


FRANK ROGERS ELLIS.

Born May 22, 1848, at Cincinnati, Ohio; son of Rowland and Mary Caroline (Rogers) Ellis. Rowland Ellis was born at Boston in the year 1806, being a de- scendant of the John Ellis family which settled in Sandwich, Massachusetts in 1620. Frank Rogers Ellis attended Cin- cinnati public schools 1857-1865; he spent two years at Hughes High School, cover- ing a three-year course in that time. He was employed by Sargent, Wilson & Hinkle, school book publishers, 137 Wal- nut street, in 1865, and served with them and their successors, Wilson, Hinkle & Co., Van Antwerp, Bragg & Co., and American Book Company to the present time. Is a member of the Business Men's Club; former member and president Avon- dale Athletic Club; member Board of Di- rectors and of Executive Committee of the Cincinnati College of Music; secretary and member Board of Directors of Cincinnati Musical Festival Association; also chair- man of the Chorus Committee and a mem- ber of the chorus in all the festivals, in- cluding the first in 1873. Married Mary E. Rhodes at Marietta, Ohio, 1878, and has one daughter, Margaret Ward Ellis.

Born April 8, 1872, at Cincinnati, Ohio; son of Adoplh and Elizabeth Wiederstein. Entered the pork packing business when a boy of thirteen and worked his way to the top, becoming secretary of the Jno. Hoffmann Sons Company in 1908. He married Miss Carrie Nolte and has two children, Floyd and Charlotte Wied- erstein.

Born October 3, 1858, at Warren County, Ohio; son of Nicholas and Johanna Fur- long. Entered the hardware and imple- ment business at Franklin, Ohio, in 1891. Began work as salesman for the McCor- mick Harvesting Machine Company in August, 1895. Was made General Agent for International Harvester Company of America in 1902. Is a member of B. P. O. E. and U. C. T. Was married in 1888, to Ellen Eiring, of Salisbury, Mo., and has two children, Mary Elizabeth and Nicholas Emmet Furlong, Jr.

Ile is Vice President American Jewish Historical Society, member Publication Committee Jewish Publication Society of America, member American Jewish Com- mittee, Chairman Board of Editors Union of American Hebrew Congregations, mem- ber Executive Committee National Feder- ation of Religious Liberals. Author of "The Jew in English Fiction, "Old Euro- pean Jewries," "The Oldest Jewish Con- gregation in the West," "A Holiday Sheaf." "The Reminiscences of Isaac M. Wise," "The Reform Movement in Judaism," and many articles in maga- zines. Has lectured extensively through- out the country. Married in 1886 to Ella Hollander, Baltimore, Md.
