Re- turned to the United States May 12, 1919, and was honorably dis- charged from service on the twenty-third of that month.


CASTNER, PAUL PAT- TERSON-Son of Charles A. Castner, 1032 Summerlea Ave. Born October 23, 1897. Was in- ducted into service September 5, 1918. He was placed with Com- pany C, 147th Engineers, but did not get overseas. Private Cast- ner was honorably discharged from the service of the United States December 9, 1918.


CHAMBERS, JOSEPH OS- BORN-Son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry P. Chambers, 99 E. Mai- den St. Born April 4, 1898. En- listed May 20, 1917, with Base Hospital No. 31 and was sent to Camp Crane. He was trans- ferred to Camp Mills. Sailed for France December 15, 1917. Returned to the United States April 30. 1919, and was honor- ably discharged May 6, 1919.

Sent to Camp Sherman and placed with Company E, 332nd Infantry, 30th Division. He sailed overseas June 8, 1918. Was hurt in an explosion. Re- turned to the United States in April, 1919, and was honorably discharged from service later that month.


CHRISTMAN, CLARENCE WRAY-Son of Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Christman, 529 Houston St. Born June 21, 1889. En- listed in April, 1917, with Com- pany H, Iroth Infantry, 28th Division. He was sent to Camp Hancock and Camp Merritt. On May 3, 1918, sailed for France. Private Christman was slightly wounded five times, dislocated his shoulder, and was in the hos- pital about six weeks.


CHRISTMAN, RONALD FRYE-Son of William and Elizabeth Christman, 29 W. Prospect Ave. Born August 19, 1898. Enlisted in the Navy April 7, 1917, and was sent to Newport News. He was then assigned to U. S. S. Rhode Island, which was, part of the Atlantic fleet. Made a number of trips across.

Was sent to Fort Riley and placed with Battery B, 67th Field Artillery. He was trans- ferred to Camp Knox. Was ap- pointed Mess Sergeant, and was honorably discharged from ser- vice December 21, 1918.


CLARK, PAUL L .- Son of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Clark, 715 E. Maiden St. Born August 25, 1888. Was inducted into service October 6, 1917, and sent to Camp Sherman. He was at- tached to Company L. 347th In- fantry, and sent to Camp Pike. Private Clark was honorably dis- charged from the United States service December 24, 1918.


CLARK, HOMER L .- Son of Mrs. H. L. Clark, 715 E. Maiden St. Born July 7, 1897. Was in- ducted into the army September 19, 1918, and sent to Camp Coffee, South Bethlehem. He was attached to the Engineers, made Bugler, and was honorably discharged from service Decem- ber 7, 1918.


CLARKE, FREDERICK CORNELIUS-Son of Mrs. Annie Clarke, 327 Locust Ave. Born December '2, 1892. Was in- ducted into service October 16, 1918. Sent to Camp Forrest and attached to 13th Casual Co., Ist Battalion. Honorably discharged from service of U. S. Dec. 21. 18, and Feb. 12, '19, joined the U. S. Merchant Marines.

CLARK, JOHN GAYLORD -Son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman E. Clark, 116 S. Wade Ave. Born September II, 1896. En- listed June 18, 1917, with the United States Army Ambulance Service, with the French. He sailed January 9, 1918. Was given a "Medaille d' honneur" by the French Ministry of War January 24, 1919. Returned to the United States June 4. 1919, and was honorably discharged from service June II, 1919.


CLEMENS, BERTIE L .- Son of Thomas M. Clemens, 58 Almont Ave. Born December 4, 1896. Enlisted February 3, 1918, with Aero Squadron 320, and was sent to Kelly Field, Tex. Later he was transferred to Camp Morrison, Garden City, and July 31, 1918, was sent to England. Made Corporal while in England. Returned to U. S. on the S. S. Lapland Dec. 4, '18. Honorably discharged from the Army Dec. 14, 1919.


CLEMENS, OSCAR WILEY -Son of James and Mary Cle- mens, 132 S. Franklin St. Born in 1893. Enlisted in the Navy in May, 1917. He was on the Bat- tleship Wisconsin, and did exten- sive traveling with that boat.


CLEMENT, O. W .- Son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Clement, 43 N. Franklin St. Born December 12, 1888. Was inducted into ser- vice December 13, 1917, and sent to Fort Myer. He was placed with Company B, 37th, Electrical . Engineers, and went to France May 6, 1918. Private Clement was in most of the important battles including St. Mihiel, Ar- gonne, and the Marne. He was honorably discharged from the service April 4. 1919.

CLUTTER, WILLIS H .- Son of John W. Clutter, 113 Hall Ave. Born June 13, 1894. En- listed with Co. H, IIoth Infantry in Jan., '14. He was sent to Camp Hancock with them, and on May 3, '18. to France. Private Clutter was in service with Co. H. until he was gassed Sept. 25, '18. De- veloped pneumonia; in hospital for three months. Jan. 5, '19, landed in U. S .: honorably dis- charged May 20, '19.


CLUTTER, JOHN CLIN- TON-Son of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Clutter, 231 W. Spruce St. Born February 16, 1895. Was inducted into service Oct. 6, '17. and sent to Camp Sherman. He was placed with 36th Machine Gun Batt., moved to Camp Pike. Camp Dix, and on Aug. 24, '18, to France. Clutter was made wagoner of his Company. Re- turned to U. S. Mar. 7, '19: hon- orably discharged Mar. 22, '19.


CLUTTER, HAROLD L .- Son of Lee Clutter, 442 W. Chestnut St. Born Nov. 27, '98. ' Enlisted July 19, '17, with Co. H. IIOth Inf., and was sent to Camp Hancock. He sailed May 3 from Camp Merritt. Was in most of the large battles with Co. H. until he was shot in both arms, slightly gassed and returned to a hospital. He was returned to the U. S. Nov. 2, '18; honorably dis- charged April 12, 1919.


CLUTTER, GEORGE IVAN Son of C. E. Clutter, 45 E. Beau St. Born October 23, 1894. Enlisted June 29. 1916, with Company H, Hoth Infantry, 28th Division, and was sent to Camp Hancock. He was made Corpo- ral September 23. 1917. Sailed for France May 3, 1918, and af- ter going through the greater part of the large battles with Co. H was gassed. He returned home May 12. '19 ; honorably dis- charged May 23, 1919.


CLUTTER, RAYMOND MANSELL-Son of Mrs. Cora Grimm, 93 Fayette St. Born January 19, 1897. Enlisted Feb- ruary 1, 1914, with Company H, IOth Infantry, 28th Division. Was sent to Camp Hancock and later Camp Merritt. He sailed for France May 3, 1918. Was gassed July 29. Returned to the United States May 12, 1919, and was honorably discharged from service on May 23, 1919.


CLUTTER, CHARLES L .- Son of C. E. Clutter, 45 E. Beau St. Born September 1, 1893. Enlisted with Company H, Iloth Infantry, 28th Division. Was sent to Camp Hancock. He re- ceived a physical disability dis- charge March 27, 1918, but was retained in service. Sent to Camps Meade, Holabird, and Meigs. Was honorably dis- charged from service February 4. 1919.


COAKLEY, WILLIAM P., I21 E. Wylie Ave .- Born No- vember 18, 1896. Enlisted in May, 1917. with Company B, 15th Engineers. He sailed for France in June, 1917. Returned to the United States May 1, 1919, and was honorably discharged from the service May 7, 1919.


COATES, CHARLES W .- Son of Henry and Elenor Coates. Born November 18, 1889. Was inducted into service May 25, 1918, and sent to Camp Sherman. He was placed with a Base Hospital and later sent to Camp Greenleaf. Private Coates sailed overseas September 1,

CONCIDINE, LEO-Son of Mary and Stephen Concidine, 143 E. Chestnut St. Born August 17, 1889. Was inducted into ser- vice February 7, 1918. He was sent to Camp Sherman and placed with the Signal Corps. August 17, 1918, he sailed over- seas and was attached to Ameri- can Post Office 762.


CONDIT, RUSSELL L .- Son of Mlr. and Mrs. John Condit, So Allison Ave. Born November 2, 1895. Was inducted into service May 10, 1918. He was sent to Columbus Barracks. Was in Company G, and I, Ioth Infantry, and was later placed in the clas- sification office there. Private Condit was honorably discharged from the service December II, 1918.


CONKLIN, JAMES F .- Son of Mr. and Mrs. Morgan H. Conklin, 94 Shirls Ave. Born June 16, 1897. Enlisted in the S. A. T. C. at Lehigh University. and was placed with Company C. Private Conklin was honorably discharged from the service of the United States December 7, 1918.

CONNER, JAMES ROY- Son of Mr. and Mrs. James Con- ner, 187 Allison Ave. Born April 8, 1891. Was inducted into ser- vice August 8, 1918. Sent to Camp Wordsworth and placed with Company M, 5th Pioneers. He was made Corporal. Under- went an operation at Camp Wordsworth, and was honorably discharged from the service of the United States in January, 1919.


CONROY, EDWARD JAMES-Son of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Conroy, 287 Fayette St. Born Apr. 23, '94. Inducted into service in June, '18. Sent to Camp Travis, and attached to 323rd Field Signal Corps. Later sent to Ft. Leavenworth. Was made Sergt., and in Sept., '18, sailed for France. There he was given clerical work in a base hos- pital. Sergt. Conroy returned from overseas May 3, '19; hon- orably discharged on May 23, '19.


CONROY. ROBERT PHILIP-Son of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Conroy, 287 Fayette St. Born June 8. 1889. Was inducted into service June 28, 1918. He was sent to Camp Lee and placed with the Headquarters Company of the 9th Battalion. Conroy was made Sergeant Major, and honorably discharged from ser- vice January II, 1919.


COUTS, EDWARD CHARLES-Son of Thomas Couts, 321/2 Chartiers St. Born June 3, 1894. Was inducted into service August 7, 1918, and sent to Camp Wadsworth. He was placed with Company D, 56th In- fantry, and honorably discharged from the United States service December 17, 1918.

Dagg wears 3 wound stripes, 3 gold service stripes, and has been 23 months in service.


DAGNE, DONALD S .- Son of William C. Dagne, 18 South St. Born January 31, 1892. En- listed in June, 1917. He was at- tached to a Medical Corps and sailed for France November 30, 1917. Private Dagne was at the front many times.


D'ALESANDRO, MICHAEL -Son of James D'Alesandro, 296 Houston St. Born March 19. 1897. Was inducted into service August 30, 1918. Sent to Camp Lee and placed with Company K. He was transferred to Camp Shelby, then to Camp Dix. Pri- vate D'Alesandro was honorably discharged from the service January 1, 1919.


DALTON. EARL CLIF-, FORD-Son of Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Dalton, 163 N. Franklin St. Born February 4, 1889. Was inducted into service Sep- tember 5, 1917, and was ap- pointed cook for 24th Company, 6th Training Battalion, 155th De- pot Brigade. He was honorably discharged from the service De- cember 6, 1918.


DAUGHERTY. JOSEPH- Son of Joseph Vance' Daugh- erty, McCarrell Ave. Born Oc- tober 30, 1891. Was inducted into service April 6, 1918. Sent to Camp Lee and placed with Headquarters Detachment 338, Training Battalion. Later trans- ferred to .Newport News. Daugherty was made Sergeant, and sailed overseas June 5, 1918. Sergeant Daugherty was July I, 1919, still in service in France.


DAVIES, AMBROSE-Son of. Daniel Davies, 821 Summer- lea Ave. Born May 3, 1902. Was prior to his enlistment with Troope'5 in the Cavalry, a stu- dent , at the Washington High School. Private Davies was sent to Fort Bliss, Tex.


DAVIES, WILLIAM R .- Son of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Davies, I13 McAdams Ave. Born April 3, 1893. Was in- ducted into service May 28, 1918. Was sent to Camp Wheeler and attached to Battery B, 117th Ar- tillery, 3Ist Division. He was transferred to Fort Jackson. Sailed overseas October 14, 1918. Returned to U. S. December 20. and was honorably discharged from service January 13, 1919.


DAVIS, CLAIR CHAMI- BERS-Son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Davis. Born May 26, 1892. Enlisted in April and was sent to Camp Sherman. He was placed with Company B, 7th In- fantry, 3rd' Division. Made Cor- poral, and sailed for France in June, 1918. Corporal Davis was wounded in the shoulder by a machine gun bullet. Returned to U. S. in Dec., '18; honorably dis- charged January. 22, 1919.


DAY, ALLISON O., 449 Jef- ferson Ave .- Born July 24, 1889. Enlisted June 2, 1917. Was sent to Camp Perry and attached to Company . A, 112th Engineers, 37th Division. He was trans- ferred to Camp Sheridan. Sailed overseas June 23, 1918. Returned to the United States April I, 1919, and was honorably dis- charged on the fifteenth of the month with the rank of Sergeant.


DAY, HUGH PAUL-Son.of DAY. GUY-Son of Mr. and Mrs. Minor H. Day, 90 Allison Ave. Born September 23, 1896. Enlisted in April, 1917, with Company H, Ioth Infantry, 28th Division, and was sent to Camp Hancock. He sailed for France geant. Was wounded July 30, 1918, in the hip by a machine gun bullet. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh A. Day, 409 E. Beau St. Born January 15, 1895. Was inducted into service . December 14, 1917, and sent to Camp Sherman. He was at- tached to Headquarters Com- pany, 20th Field Artillery, 5th , May 3, 1918. Was made Ser- Division. Was transferred to Camps MacArthur and Upton. Sailed overseas May 26, '18.


DEAN, JAMES C .- Son of James D. Dean, 1035 Bruce St. Born January 1, 1895. Was in- ducted into service May 24, 1918, and sent to Camp Merritt. He was attached to the Medical Corps, and was honorably dis- charged from the United States service January 23, 1919.
