The following departments of study are represented:


I. THE COLLEGE.


In the College, courses are offered in the following culture subjects: Applied Mathematics, Astronomy, Biblical History and Literature, Biology, Chemistry, Commercial Geography. Com- mercial Law, Economie Geology. Economics, Education, English Language, English Litera- ture, French, General Geology, German, Government. Greek, History, Italian, Latin, Math- ematies, Philosophy. Physics, Public Speaking. Sociology and Spanish.


By virtue of the elective system, the undergraduate can select any one of a large number of liberal four-year courses, leading to the degrees of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science. -


II. DEPARTMENT OF GRADUATE STUDIES.


This department offers opportunity for advanced instruction in the subjects taught in the College, and of acquiring the methods of original research. The degrees offered are Master of Arts, Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy.


III. DEPARTMENT OF ENGINEERING.


Five distinct courses are offered. leading to degrees in Civil, Mining, Mechanical, Electrical and Chemical Engineering, and requiring for their completion four years each. Graduates of College admitted with advanced standing in Mathematics and in the Sciences. Special two-year courses are arranged for students who are unable to afford the time and money needed for com- pleting the full degree course of four years.


IV. DEPARTMENT OF LAW.


The candidate for the LL. B. degree is required to attend three full sessions. A valuable special course is provided for students who cannot attend a full course, and who are not candidates for the degree. The Library facilities are excellent.


V. DEPARTMENT OF MEDICINE.


The prominent features of the course are extensive laboratory instruction in the fundamental sciences and thorough practical training in the University Hospital, where students have many of the ADVANTAGES USUALLY GRANTED ONLY TO INTERNES.


All laboratory courses are given by full-time instructors, each a specialist in his own branch. Instruction of students is the primary work of instructors in medicine and surgery, whose practice is largely limited to the University Hospital. Four-fifths of the cases in this hospital are available and used for clinical instruction.


VI. SUMMER SCHOOL.


The Summer School offers courses for college credit leading to the degrees of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science, thus enabling students to shorten the time required for these de- grees. Courses are also offered which prepare for entrance of absolve conditions. In addition to these, numerous courses are given for the professional training of High School principals, High School teachers, and school administrators.


Short courses are offered in The College for those unable to enter at opening of session. Tuition in Academic Departments free to Virginians. Loan Funds available. All other expenses reduced to a minhaum. SEND FOR CATALOGUE.

Barracks and lecture rooms are heated by steam and lighted with electric lights from on own plant. The buildings are supplied with baths and fresh water from the college sprie which is regularly tested by the Institute bacteriolegist.


Military science and tactics under the direction of a commandant detailed by the Unit ! States Government from the regular army.


The U. S. Experiment Station, the whole of the demonstration and extension work. and she State entomological work are located here and operated from this institution


The entrance, conditional, and deferred examinations are held each session the week pre coding the opening of the session - 12th to 19th of September. 1917. Session of 1917-15 opens September 19th.


Summer school is conducted each summer for six weeks, immediately after Commencemetd by a faculty selected from the college faculty, and under the control of the president of the Vr stitution. College credits are given for work done in the summer school. .
