Funeral services were conductean. 28 at Hughes Loma Linda Mortuary. Pastor Robert Mcintyre officiated. Internment at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside.
Mr. Crain passed away Jan. 22 at the VA Hospital in Loma Linda.
He is survived by his wife Betty of Weldon; daughter Nancy Larson of Weldon; two grand- children, Tammy DeLong and Billy DeLong of Long Beach; two sisters and three brothers.
Mr. Crain was in the Air Force during WW II and served in the Phillippines.
Born in Lookeba, Oklahoma, on July 16, 1927, Tom Crain was 64 years of age.
Lucille Mayes
A funeral service was con- ducted Wednesday, Feb. 5 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel Lake Isabella for B. Lucille Mayes of Wofford Heights. Officiating was Rev. Fred Baker, Pastor of the United Methodist Church, Kern- ville.
Mrs. Mayes passed away Feb. I at the Edgwater Convalescent Hospital in Long Beach.
She is preceded in death by husband Curtis Cooley Mayes, deceased in 1979 and survived by brothers Tom Griffin and Austin Griffin both of Indiana, one sister Phyllis of Indiana, niece Anita Dickersonof Indiana, nephew and niece Steven Badger of Long Beach and Kelly Badger of Anaheim, grandnieces Shannon and Sasha of Anaheim.
Lucille was a retired teacher who had taught for many years at the Kernville Elementary School. She was a member of the Cali- fornia Teacher's Retirement System, the Kernville United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star and the El Segundo Rod & Gun Club. Lucille and her husband, Curtis, were very active in church and Masonic work. Mr. Mayes was Past Master of KRV Masonic Lodge No. 827 of Kernville.
Born Aug.23. 1908 in Honey Creek, Delaware County, Indiana, B. Lucille Mayes was 83 years of age.
Interment at the Kern River Valley Cemetery where graveside honors and prayers were delivered by Rev. Baker and Officers of Kern River Valley Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 643. Ar- rangements by Valley Mortuary.

OBITUARY
Daniel Lee Connell
Daniel Lee Connell, age 62 and a resident of Weldon, passed away Jan. 30 at the San Fernando Valley VA hospital.
Mr. Connell was born March 13, 1929 at Louisville, Kentucky. the son of William J. Connell and Alta Maude Austin. He attended Crawfordsville school and was employed at RR Donnelley and Sons for 19 years. He also served in the US Air Force.
Dan was best known as one of the drivers of the Kern Valley's Rural Transit System - RTS - busses. He moved to the Kern Valley in 1977 and prior to that he was a weekend resident for many years. Dan had been a driver for RTS since 1981 and was one of the first drivers for the public transit system. He was still em- ployed as a bus driver at the time of his death. Dan was instrumen- tal in starting a petition and letter- writing campaign to get transfer control of Isabella lake from the management of the Corps of En- gineers to the Forest Service.
Survivors include his daugh- ter. Pam Martin of Crawfordsville. IN. sister De Vonna Joseph of
Crawfordsville. IN. He is pre- ceded in death by four brothers and one sister. In the Kern Val- ley, he leaves two grandchildren. Brandon Lec Cook of Bodfish and Michael David Hess also of Bodfish. He also leaves a dear friend, Al Jackson, who often ac- companied Dan on his many trips to the high country to cut wood. Locally. Dan was a member of the Kern Valley Eagles Lodge.
Memorial Services were held Feb. 4 at the Oak Hill Tabernacle at Crawfordsville with Rev. Rob- crt Miller officiating. Burial was at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
A memorial service is sched- uled for Feb. 25 at 7:00 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge in Mt. Mesa.

Grace Thomason
A funeral service was con- ducted at the Memorial Chapel of the Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery in Chatsworth, Cali- fornia for Grace Thomason of Las Vegas, formerly of Mt. Mesa. Officiating was Rev. Daniel R. Lyon, Evangelist and a member of Mrs. Thomason's family.
Mrs. Thomason passed away Feb. 7 at the Valley Hospital of Las Vegas.
Grace is preceded in death by her husband Alfred A. Thomason deceased in 1986, she is survived by her grandsons Alfred L. Thomason of Las Vegas, Merle Thomason of Valencia, great- granddaughter Tiffany of Valencia.
Grace Thomason moved to the Kern River Valley in 1983 and resided in the Mt. Mesa Trailer Park. She was a member of the KRV Senior Citizens and at- tended church at the Mt. Mesa Church of Christ.
Born Sept. 22, 1902 in Run- nels County, Texas, Grace Thomason was 89 years of age. Interment at Oakwood Memorial Park. Chatsworth. Arrangements: Valley Mortuary.

Wilber Jay Branson
Wilber Jay Branson was born in the town of Waldron. Missouri on June 16, 1911. He married his wife Charlotte on October 11. 1936. Their marriage brought them endless joy and two won- derful sons. He began work as a watchmaker in Witchita, KS and later worked for McDonnell Douglas from 1939 until 1972, both as a master machinist and in management.
After his retirement. they moved to Bodfish in 1972 and became active in the Highland Chapel United Methodist Church. Alter a long period of fighting cancer. Wilber died on February 11, 1992 at home.
Wilber is survived by Char- lotte, his wife of more than 55 years: sons Wayne Branson of Carson. CA and Bill Branson of Phoenix, AZ; nine grandchildren and cleven great-grandchildren.
Services were held in High- land Chapel on February 15, 1992 by Pastor Floyd R. Castillo and "Bo" Williams of Masonic Lodge 872. John Myles of Weldon passed away Feb. 16 at the Kern Valley Hospital Mt. Mesa.

Lee A. Burkett
Mr. Lee Anderson Burkett was born to Anderson and Lucy Burkett in Paducah. TX, Jan. 10, 1916 and died in Bakersfield, CA Feb. 10, 1992, just 31 days after his 76th birthday.
He was married to Kay Carter on Oct. 7. 1963. She preceded him in death in March of 1991. His surviving children are Garry Burkett and Linda Promenchenkel, of Southern California. The grandchildren arc Richard Burkett. Lori Burkett. Cathy Promenchenkel, and Michael Promenchenkel. There are also four great grandchildren: Samantha, Ashley. and Brandon Promenchenkel and John Burkett. Also surviving are two brothers: Jim Burkett, of Long Beach, CA and Claude Burkett, of Clovis, NM, and two sisters: Dee Wil- liams, of Diamond Bar. CA and Ollie MacFarland of Idaho.
Shortly after his birth, Lec Burkett's parents moved from Paducah, TX to Portalas, NM. When he was about 17 years old. Lee was baptized into Christ. He lived in various places in the New Mexico area until he moved to California in 1941. He worked for Mobile Oil Company in Tor- rance for 20 years. He also worked, for a few years. as a machinist. Then, he moved to Eugene, OR and worked as a millright. Finally, in 1976, he re- tired and moved to Kern Valley and settled in Mount Mesa. CA. He was able to maintain his home there until the end.

A memorial service was con- ducted on Saturday. Feb. 22 at Riverside Park in Kernville for Mildred Opal Byers. She passed away on Feb. 15 in Porterville. CA at the age of 83.
Mrs. Byers was born in Colo- rado Springs. CO and had been a resident of Kernville for 36 years where she was the store manager of Road's End for 14 years and a member of the Methodist Church.

Mr. Brewer passed away Feb. 23 at home following illness.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years Pearl of Southlake, mother Mildred Brewer of Santa Maria, brother James Brewer of Santa Maria, son and daughter- in-law Larry and Liz of LaMirada, son and daughter-in-law David and Sandra also of LaMirada, daughter Jodie and son-in-law Greg of Whittier, daughter Diane of Chino, daughter Elaine and son-in-law Rick of Oregon, 10 grandchildren.
George Brewer was a U.S. Navy veteran of both WWII and Korea. He served aboard ship in the Asiatic-Pacific region during WWII and received two bronze battle stars. During the Korean conflict he again served aboard ship in Korean waters.
Mr. Brewer was retired after more than 37 years of service with the Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. and had been a resident of the Kern River Valley for the past six years. Here in the valley Mr. Brewer was a member of the Elks and the Eagles.

Mr. Schwingl passed away Feb. 24 at the Kern Medical Cen- ter Hospital Bakersfield.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years Maxine of Wofford Heights, son Glenn of Wofford Heights, daughter Linda Ramos of Wofford Heights, grandchil- dren Katie. Brad, Chris and Wayne, great-grandchildren Wayne, Chris, Cassie and Matt.
During WWII Joseph Schwingl served as a gun erew- man with the 498th Armored Field Artillery Battalion in combat in North Africa and Europe. As a result of his service he was awarded two Bronze Battle Stars and the Bronze Star Medal.
Mr. Schwingl had been a resi- dent of the Kern River Valley for the past two years. Born Dec. 12. 1912 in Chicago, Cook County. Illinois, Joseph Frank Schwingl was 79 years of age.

Anthony Matuzak
Anthony Matuzak was born in Duluth. Montana. Nov. 4. 1916 and died Feb. 16. 1992 in Kernville. California.
He is survived by his wife Marie who resides in Kernville. son Kenneth. who resides in Santa Monica, California, son William who resides in Simi Valley. Cali- fornia, daughter Joyce Hain who resides in West Hills, California and Kernville.
Anthony had 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was in the construction business for over 20 years in Chatsworth. California and moved to Kernville in 1981.
Services were held Feb. 20, 1992 at Oakwood Memorial Park, Chatsworth. California.
Mae E. Edwards
Mac E. Edwards of Kernville passed away Feb. 28 at the Kern Valley Hospital Mt. Mesa.
Mrs. Edwards is preceded in death by her husband Dr. Frank Edwards, DVM and son Dr. Harry Scott Thompson, DVM.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Virginia and Stewart Robb of Camp Nelson, California.
Mrs. Edwards was a member of the Kern Valley Ant Society, the VFW Auxiliary and the Order of the Eastern Star in Bakersfield.
Mae Edwards came to Bakers- field in 1930. then moved to Kernville in 1940 where she has resided ever since.
Born June 15, 1897 in Capc Girardeau, Cape Girardeau County. Missouri, Mamie Esther "Mac" Edwards was 94 years of age.

Kenneth E. Thurber
A memorial service was con- ducted Thursday, March 5 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel Lake Isabella for Kenneth Eugene Thurber of Lake Isabella. Offici- ating was Rev. John Carpenter. Pastor of the Church of the Nazarene. Lake Isabella and in- terim pastor of the United Meth- odist Church of Weldon.
Mr. Thurber passed away March I at home following illness.
He is survived by his daughter Sharon Carver of Lake Isabella, daughter Patty Lage of Bakersfield, and three grandchildren.
Kenneth Thurber was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army. He served as master sergeant with the Air Corps. He was a member of the Moose. the Eagles and the American Legion.
Kem Thurber had been a long time resident of the Kern River Valley having resided on a ranch along Erskine Creek before WWII.

Mark Dale Macc of Weldon was found Feb. 27 drowned in the Kern River after he'd been missing since Friday, Feb. 21, 1992.
Bom May 29, 1964, he is sur- vived by his wife Lisa Lane Macc of Weldon; his parents Nathan and Pauline Macc of Weldon; his cight- year-old son Mark Dale Macc, Jr. of Ridgecrest: mother-in-law Suzanne Williams of Weldon; three brothers Nathan Mace, Jr., Paul Mace, Andy Mace, all of Weldon: nine sisters Colleen Al vary, Patricia Vigil. Judy Mace and Natalic Bennett. all of Bakersfield; Pauline R. Mace of Onyx: Loretta Mace. Sherry Mace, Lisa R. Mace, all of Weldon: Yvonne Smith of An- chorage. Alaska. Six nieces and six nephews.
Mark was a graduate of Kern Valley High in 1982. He worked for the U.S. Forestry, but was pres- ently employed with Piute Con- struction of Bakersfield. Mark was a native Piute Indian. He loved the South Fork surrounding mountains where he was born and raised. He was buried at the Indian Cemetery in Onyx.

George L. Rowlett
A memorial service was held Friday, March 13, 1992, at 11:00 a.m. at the Valley Mortuary
Chapel for George L. Rowlett of Lake Isabella. Officiating was Pastor Floyd Castillo of the Highland Chapel United Meth- odist Church of Lake Isabella, and the officers of the Kem River Valley Moose.
Mr. Rowlett was born Sept. 22, 1907 in DeQucen, Ark. and died March 6, 1992, in Bakers- field, CA. He was 84 years old. Mr. Rowlett was a veteran of WWII and served in the Army in European, African, Middle East- ern theater. George worked for Thompson Dist. Co. of Bakers- field and Mojave for over 30 years and retired as general manager. It is said that George was first to drive a beer truck up the Kern Canyon and deliver beer to the Kern River Valley.
Mr. Rowlett is preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, Frances DeMillo Rowlett. He is survived by his daughter and son- in-law Diana and Richard R. George of Wofford Heights; son Sheldon Sullivan of Bakersfield, Tony Sullivan and wife Jennifer of Renton, WA; sister Verdie Bell Smith of DeQueen, Ark., and 8 grandchildren and 4 great grand- children. Mr. Rowlett was a 40 year resident of Kern County.
Interment will be at the U.S. National Cemetery in Riverside, CA. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.

A funeral service was held March 5, 1992 at Thomas Miller Mortuary of Corona, for Phillip H. Chacon of Nuevo. He passed away on March 1 at Parkview Community Hospital Medical Center of Riverside.
He is survived by his wife Sally of Nuevo, twin daughters Barbara Whittier of Corona and Louise Shrier of Huntington Beach, brothers Peter Chacon of Sacra- mento and Mark Chacon of Vacaville, sisters Mary and Lupe of San Diego, as well as 7 grandchildren.
Mr. Chacon was a former resident of Onyx, in which he was very active in politics in the Kern River Valley area. He was also the owner/manager of his own linen supply business for 40 years.

Victor Roscoe Stonebraker
Memorial services were held Thursday, March 5, at the Eagles Aerie #3156 in Mt. Mesa. Graveside services were held at Greenlawn for Victor Roscoe Stonebraker who passed away March 3, 1992 at his home. Keith Fultz officiated.
Upon the pending birth ot Mr. Stonebraker, his parents traveled to McPherson, KA so he could be
bom Jan. 5, 1910 on the home- stead of his great grandparents, Sellars; which was granted to them and signed by President Lincoln. He was raised in Wiley, CO, moving to Califomia in 1926. He had lived in Kern County for the last 54 years. He worked for the Union Oil Co. for 15 years. In 1945 he opened his own business, "Stony's Trailer Rental" in Oildale. Upon his retirement in 1975 he moved to Lake Isabella. He was active in Eagles Aerie 3156 and was "father" of the area for many years. He was also ac- tive in the Western Mining Council for many years.
His greatest joy in life was taking his two grandsons to the mountains, teaching them about the wilderness and gold mining. His greatest hope was to see that all of his great grandchildren would receive a college educa- tion.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth Stonebraker, son William J. Stonebraker & wife Fern, daughter Barbara Mae Dean & husband Samuel S. Dean, Jr., all of Bakersfield, one sister, Mary Nelson & husband Lewis of McPherson, KA, six grandchil- dren, 15 great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren and a friend more like a son to him, Donald Graham of Bakersfield, CA. He will be loved and missed by all who knew him.

Mildred Lampson
A memorial service was con- ducted at the First Baptist Church in Ridgecrest on Thursday, March 12 for Mildred Blanche Lampson of Ridgecrest. Rev. Mark Roether officiated. A graveside service followed at Desert Memorial Park. She passed away March 9 at Ridgecrest Community Hos- pital.
Mrs. Lampson is preceded in death by husband Charles Lampson in 1988. She is survived by her son Ronald Lampson of Bakersfield, daughter Sharon Robesky of Ridgecrest, grand- children Penny Lampson, Leslie Pence, Wendy Beitel, Eric Lampson, Allison Robesky, Deidre Patin, Kenneth Robesky, William Robesky, Sonia Robesky, and two great grand- children.
Born Sept. 5, 1915 in Gentry County, Missouri, Mrs. Lampson was 76 years of age. She moved to Ridgecrest in 1973 from Lake Isabella where she operated Lampson Mobile Home Park and was Past President of South Fork Women's Club. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ridgecrest. Before moving to Lake Isabella, Mrs. Lampson taught school in the Los Angeles area.

Cecil Walter Smith
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 18, 1992 at 2:00 p.m. at the South Shore Full Gospel Church in Mt. Mesa for Cecil Walter Smith of Weldon. Officiating will be Pastor Gary Nichols.
Mr. Smith was born August 10, 1929 in Bakersfield, CA and died at his residence in Weldon, March 9, 1992. He was 62 years old.
He is survived by his mother Rosella P. Smith of Weldon; sons Bryan Smith of Lake Bay, WA; Stephen Smith of College Station, TX; Michael Stafford of Cali- fornia; daughter Lauren McGure of Costa Mesa, CA and 5 grand- children. Arrangements by Val- ley Mortuary

OBITUARY
Robert L. Greenwood
Mr. Robert Greenwood, 71 of Kernville passed away March 15 at Memorial Hospital in Bakers- field. Mr Greenwood was born in Lelia Lake, Texas April 18, 1920 and had been a resident of Kern- ville since 1948.
He is survived by his wife Roberta of 45 years of Kernville: brother James Howard Green- wood of Hurley, NM; sister Ola- Mac Lockhart of Memphis, TX: daughter andson-in-law Patty and Jim Thomas of Weldon; daugh- ter and son-in-law Sharon and Duane Lantsberger of Kernville. Grandchildren include: Greg Robert Greenwood and Terri Lynn Swan of Bakersfield, Rob-
crt John Greenwood of Rosemond, Kent James Thomas of Bakersfield, Time Robert and Tate William Nagle of Weldon. Wendy Lee and Rusty William Lantsberger of Kernville. Great grandchildren are: Mathew and Jamie Swan, Brittany and Meagan Greenwood and Russell Lee Lantsberger.
Robert was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy who served from 1943 to 1946 in the South Pacific as a ships Boatswain. Robert was a lifetime member of the VFW and vested 25 years in the Oper- ating Engineers, after which he began his own construction/cx- cavation business in the Kern River Valley. Cremation ar- rangements: Valley Mortuary of Lake Isabella.
