A funeral service was con- ducted Thursday, Jan. 9 at the Valley Mortuary chapel Lake Isabella for Ronald Dee Mankhey of Bodush: Officiating was Rev. James Lee, pastor of the Valley Community church of Lake Isabella. Mr. Mankhey passed away Jan.5 in Paso Robles.


He is survived by his wife Sunday of Bodfish: mother Alice Schropp of Bodfish; daughters Gina Moe of Las Vegas, Jamie Mankhey of Henderson, Nevada. Stacie Mankhey also of Henderson: son Randall Mankhey, two grandchilden and sister Cindy Mankhey of Bodfish.


Born Sept. 13, 1946 in San Pedro, California. Ronald Dec Mankhey was 45 years of age.

Michael Irvin Oney


Michael Irvin Oney of Mo- raine, Ohio passed away Dec. 29 in Dayton, Ohio. Michael was a graduate of Woodrow Wallace Elementary and a 1982 graduate of Kern Valley High School. He had been living in Ohio for the past six years working as a plumber of DAYCO plumbing. He is survived by his mother and step father Vivian and James Boughton of Lake Isabella; wife Milissa Ann of Lake Isabella; father Mr. B. Oney of Ohio; brothers Andrew of Ohio, James and Ronald both of Lake Isabella; grandmother Rosie Ferguson of Kentucky.


Funeral services for Michael were conducted Jan. 1 in Mo- raine, Ohio. Interment at the Kern Valley Cemetery where grave dedication was made by Mr. Vernon Nelson of the LDS Church of Mt. Mesa.

Max W. Hansen passed away Friday, Jan. 10 at Kern Valley Hospital. He was 70 years old.


He is survived by his wife Jessie; sons Kirk and his wife Susan, Kim and his wife Carolynne and two grandchildren, Lisa and Jason.

Wayne D. Wilson of Southlake passed away at home Jan. 7 fol- lowing illness. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Carrie of Southlake; son Larry Wilson of City of Industry; daughters Bar- bara Pierce of Redding, Norma Wilson of Bakersfield, Toni Mallory of Weldon; brother Len Wilson of Ontario. Oregon; sis- ter Dora Decker of Boise, Idaho and five grandchildren.


A memorial service was con- ducted Tuesday, Jan. 14 in Weiser, Idaho at the Chapel of the Thomason Funeral Home in Idaho. Officiating was pastor Skip Collier of Carson City, NV. Opal Cromwell


A funeral service was con- ducted Saturday, Jan. 12 at the United Methodist Church in Weldon.for Opal Cromwell of Southlake. Officiating were Rev. John Carpenter, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene Lake Isabella and interim pastor of the Weldon Methodist Church and Rev. Floyd Castillo, pastor of the United Methodist Church, High- land Chapel, Lake Isabella. Mrs. Cromwell passed away Jan. 6 at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Los Angeles.


She is preceded in death by her husband Dale P. Cromwell de- ceased Feb. 27, 1989. Opal is survived by her sons Gary Cromwell of Covina, Normal Kahlhoff of Silverton, Oregon; daughters Myrna Watson of Lakewood, Connie Glenn of Castaic, ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren.


Opal Cromwell is a graduate of Wayne State University where she obtained a teaching degree. She had resided in the Kern Valley for the past 14 years and was a member of the Historical Society, the Violet Club, the Organ Club, the South Fork Women's Club, Weldon Methodist Church and past President of the Christian Women's Fellowship of the Weldon United Methodist Church.


Born Dec. 19, 1911 in Tilden, Madison County, Nebraska, Opal Regina Cromwell was 80 years of age. Interment at the Kern Valley Cemetery, Wofford Heights. Arrangements: Valley Mortuary,.


Eddie Russell


A memorial service was con- ducted Monday, Jan. 6 at the Eagles Lodge in Mt. Mesa for Edward Wilson "Eddie" Russell of Southlake. Officiating were officers of KRV Eagles Lodge Aerie 3156. Mr. Russell passed away Dec. 28 at home following illness.


He is survived by his wife June of Southlake; daughter Neisha Culver of Tulsa, Oklahoma; son Jack Russell of Southlake; granddaughter Jayme Ervast of Portland, Oregon; great grandson Ty Ervast of Portland; aunt and uncle Mr. and Mrs. Wade Wilson of Petaluma.


Eddie Russell was a WW II veteran of the U. S. Navy who served in both European and Pa- cific waters. He was a member of the Eagles, the Moose and VFW. Military honors at the Memorial service were rendered by officers of KRV Post 7665. Born March 21, 1916 in Oklahoma, Edward Russell was 75 years of age. Cremation arrangements: Valley Mortuary.

A memorial service was con- ducted Friday, Jan. 3 at the Val- ley Mortuary Chapel for Frederick Valentine Schrier of Lake Isabella. Officiating were Mr. Fred Dodds and Mr. Joel Astor. Mr. Schrier passed away Dec. 31 at the Kern Valley Hos- pital. He is survived by his late wife's daughters Maxine, Jolene and Beth, son J.L. Hall and families. Fred was retired from service with the City of Ventura and had been a resident of the Ken Valley for more than 20 years.


Born Feb. 16. 1909 in Dead- wood, Lawrence County, South Dakota, Frederick "Fred" Valen- tine Schrier was 82 years of age.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 14 at the St. Jude Parish Catholic Church, Wofford Heights for Florence S. Ballesters of Southlake. Celebrant of the Mass was Monsignor A.G. Herdegen, Pastor of St. Jude Parish.


Mrs. Ballesters passed away Jan. 10 at the Kern Valley Hospi- tal, Mt. Mesa. She is survived by her husband Lawrence of Southlake, nephew Tony Ander- son of Torrance, cousins Harold and Ernest Esbolt botlı of South- ern California.


Born Dec. 11, 1902 in Illinois, Florence Sophia Ballesters was 89 years of age. Interment at the Kern River Valley Cemetery, Wofford Heights. Arrangement: Valley Mortuary.


Margaret S. Barnett


Margaret Barnett of Lake Isabella passed away Jan. 1 I at the Memorial Hospital, Bakers- field. Margaret is preceded in death by husband Robert de- ceased in 1988 and sister Blanche Turner deceased in 1991.


She is survived by sister Kay Jones of Bakersfield; brothers Leroy Smith of Canby, Oregon, Richard Smith of Duncanville, Texas; step daughter Dollie Posey of Houston, Texas and nieces and nephews in California, Indiana and Georgia.


Born Aug. 15, 1904 in Texas, Margaret Smith Barnett was 87 years of age. Interment at the Kern River Valley Cemetery, Wofford Heights. Arrangements: Valley Mortuary.

Cordelia Hill Wade of Squir- rel Valley passed away Jan. 10 at the San Joaquin Community Hospital, Bakersfield.


She is survived by her husband of 48 years, R.F. Wade of Squirrel Valley; daughter Diana of Squirrel Valley, son John of Cy- press; sisters Jane Smith of Brentwood and Suzanne Hill also of Brentwood.


Born July 4, 1919 in Boise, Idaho, Cordelia H. Wade was 72 years of age. Cremation arrange- ments: Valley Mortuary.

A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 9 a.m. at the St. Jude's Catholic Church in Wofford Heights for Marie Thornton, 90. Marie passed away Jan. 19 in a Bakersfield nursing facility.

Mable Sauer Welsch


Mable Sauer Welsch, 76, died Dec. 26 at the Bakersfield Me- morial Hospital following sur- gery.


She was born Aug. 6, 1915 in Provo, Utah, daughter of Robert and Austa Saucr. Married August Welsch, Aug. 31, 1955 in Los Angeles. Graduated from Provo High School and attended BYU. She was active in the LDS church and held many responsible posi- tions in the Auxiliary organization of the church.She was a com- passionate, friendly woman and helped wherever she was needed. She was a loving wife to her husband and her brothers and sister respected her a a choice person. After her parents died, she moved to California where she was employed.


She is survived by her husband, of Lake Isabella; sister Gertrude Humphries of Murray, Utah and preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

Frank Fleming


A funeral service was con- ducted Saturday. Jan. 18 at the Kern River Valley Cemetery in Wofford Heights for Franchot Frome "Frank" Fleming of Lake Isabella. Officiating was Rev. John Carpenter, Pastor of the Church of the Nazarene of Lake Isabella and interim pastor of the United Methodist Church of Weldon. Mr. Fleming passed away Jan. 12 at home following illness.


He is survived by his wife of 19 years Juanita of Lake Isabella; son Sterling of Temple City; daughters Jennifer of Alhambra, Sonja of North Hollywood; brother Paul of Alhambra; sister Carol Fisher of Reno, Nevada; mother Lois Fleming of Alhambra and grandchildren.


Frank was a Korean War vet- eran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was for the last few years, the owner and operator of El Vaquero Restaurant in Wofford Heights.


Born Dec. 9, 1934 in Coopers, West Virginia, Franchot Frome "Frank" Fleming was 57 years of age.

A funeral service was con- ducted graveside at the Kern River Valley Cemetery Wofford Heights on Wednesday, Jan. 15 for Jewel Eugene Johns of Lake Isabella. Officiating was Rev. James Lee pastor of the Valley Community Church of Lake Isabella. Mr. Johns passed away Jan. 1 1 at home following illness.


He is survived by his wife Violet of Lake Isabella; sons Don of Diamond Bar, Foster of Washington state, Charles of Huntington Beach, Ronald of Redondo Beach, David of Grand Terrace, CA; daughter Sandra Ruth Mittan of Lakewood, 17 grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren.


Mr. Johns was a member of the Moose KRV Lodge No. 498, the Bodfish Beamers and was retired from the MeDonnel- Douglas Corp.


Born April 21, 1917 in Quanah, Texas, Jewel Eugene Johns was 74 years of age.


Cremation arrangements by Valley Mortuary. Interment of cremated remains at the Kern River Valley Cemetery where graveside honors were rendered by officers of the Moose.


Buster Thompson


A funeral service will be con- ducted at ] p.m. today at the Masonic Temple on James Road in Kernville for Buster Thompson of Lake Isabella. Officiating will be officers of KRV Masonic Lodge No. 827. Interment at the Kern River Valley Cemetery, Wofford Heights will follow.

Beverley Stoddard


Beverley Jean Stoddard was born in South Dakota on Feb. 18, 1927. She grew up in that small town, completing high school. She later went to work in Aber- deen as an accountant a profession that would be hers for life. She married Vern Price on June 19, 1945. Therir marriage brought them four children.


Afterl their retirement, they moved to Bodfish in Oct. 1990 and became members of the Highland Chapel United Meth- odist Church. After a period of illness, Beverley died on Jan. 18, one month before her 65th birth- day.


Beverley is survived by Vern, her husband for 46 years; sons Michael of San Diego, Bruce of Riverside and Tim of Montclair and daughter Cherie Morisset of Ontario. Her grandchildren Crystal, Amber, Tina, Christa and Chad. She is also survived by her brother, Perry Stoddard of Chisholm, Minnesota.


Services were held in River- side on Jan. 22 by Pastor Flody Castillo of the Highland Chapel.


Funeral services are pending for David A. Behm, a 1987 graduate of Kern Valley High School who died Jan. 22, 1992 in Marysville. A complete obituary will be published next week.


Buster Thompson


A funeral service was con- ducted Wednesday, Jan. 22 at the Masonic Temple, James Road in Kernville for Buster Provow Thompson of Lake Isabella. Of- ficiating were officers of KRV Masonic Lodge No. 827 F & AM.


Mr. Thompson passed away Jan. 15 at the San Joaquin Com- munity Hospital in Bakersfield.


He is survived by his wife of 48 years Alberta of Lake Isabella; brothers Willie Thompson of Tennessee, Homer Thompson of Illinois; sisters Iva Glasco of Tennessee, Nell Childers of Kansas; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.


Buster Thompson was a mili- tary veteran of WW II, a Master Mason and a member of KRV Masonic Lodge No 827. He had been a resident of the Kern Val- ley for the past 12 years.


Born May 4, 1917 in Tennes- see, Buster P. Thompson was 74 years of age. Interment at the Kern River Valley Cemetery. Arrangements: Valley Mortuary.


John McLaren, Sr.


A funeral service was con- ducted Thursday, Jan. 23, graveside at the Kern River Val- ley Cemetery, Wofford Heights for John Andrew "Jack" McLaren, Sr. of Bodfish. Offici- ating was Rev. Duane Splawn, Pastor of the Kern River Valley Christian Church of Southlake.


Mr. McLaren passed away Jan. 17 at Memorial Hospital, Bakersfield.


He is survived by his wife, Betty, of Bodfish, son John An- drew, Jr. and grandchildren. Mr. McLaren had been a resident of the Kern River Valley for the past 22 years.

A memorial service was con- ducted Monday, Jan. 27 at the KRV Elks Lodge, Wofford Heights for Ernst Georg Knittle. of Wofford Heights. Officiating were officers of KRV Elks Lodge No. 2358 B.P.O.E.


Mr. Knittle passed away Jan. 19 at home following illness.


He is survived by his wife, Anna Marie of Wofford Heights.

Marie Thornton of Kernville passed away Jan. 19 at the Cali- fornia Care Center in Bakersfield.


She is survived by one sister Agnes of San Jose, niece Joan Hurt of Long Beach.


Mrs. Thornton had resided in Kern County for the past 60 years.

Milton Adelbert Hamm


Milton Adelbert Hamm passed away Friday, Jan. 17 at Kern Valley Hospital. Born July 7, 1914 in Chandler, Arizona, he was 77 years old.


He farined in the Imperial Valley until 1959 when he began a career with CalTrans. While employed with CalTrans he was active in CSEA, forining a new chapter. He retired from CalTrans in 1978, as ahighway maintenance supervisor. Following his retire- ment he moved to Lake Isabella where he had owned a home since 1969.


He is survived by a sister, Almedia Simmons of Roslyn, Washington; son John Hamm of Lexington, SC; daughter Leslie Stewart of Lake Isabella; son Dale Hamm of Lake Isabella; 8 grandchildren, one great grand- child and numerous nieces and nephews.


Lloyd O. Moger


A funeral service was con- ducted graveside at the Kern River Valley Cemetery Wofford Height for Lloyd Obert Moger of Bodfish. Officiating was Rev. James Lee, Pastor of the Valley Community Church of Lake Isabella.


Mr. Moger passed away Jan. 20 at the Royale Gardens Health Care Facility in Grants Pass, Or- egon.


He is survived by his daughter Lois Gunsten of Lancaster, daughter Nancy Dianne Moger of Lancaster, three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.


Mr. Moger had been a resident of the Kern River Valley for the past 23 years.

Charlotte Casas


A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Friday Jan .. 24 at the St. Jude Parish Catholic Church in Wofford Heights for Charlotte M. Casas of Weldon. Celebrant of the mass was Rev. Monsignor Anthony G. Herdegen, Pastor of the St. Jude Parish. Rosary was recited before mass. Mrs. Casas passed away Jan. 20 at home following illness.


Charlotte is preceded in death by her husband of 37 years Peter "Pete" Casas. She is survived by her daughter and son in law Barbara and Harold E. Reeder of Weldon; son and daughter in law Alan and Barbara Ann Casas of Mt. Mesa; grandsons Michael Alan Gaynor and wife Julie of Upland, Mark Alan Casas and wife Shawn of El Centro, and two great grandchildren.


Charlotte was a member of the St. Jude Parish Altar Society and the St. Vincent De Paul Society. Charlotte and her late husband Peter were active members of the St. Jude Parish. Charlotte had been a resident of the Kern Valley for the past 12 years.


Born Jan. 19, 1923 in Phila- delphia, Pennsylvania, Charlotte Marie Casas was 69 years of age.


Interment at the Resurrection Cemetery, South San Gabriel where graveside services were conducted by Rev. Duane Splawn, Pastor of the Kern River Valley Christian Church of Southlake. Rev. Splawn also of- ficiated at a service of remem- brance and prayer for Charlotte at the Valley Mortuary Chapel, Lake Isabella on Jan. 23.

Mae Seidell Lamkin


Mae Seidell Lamkin, 85, former Kernville resident died Jan. 29 after a brief illness in Sylmar. She was born June 19, 1906 in Perry Township, Ohio.


She joined Daughters of the American Revolution on 1929 and was a member of the Alliklik Chapter. Rev. Ron McCoy of Santa Clarita Church of Religious Science officiated the service on Jan. 26 in Oakwood Cemetery in Chatsworth.


She is survived by two daughters, Donna Yantis of Newhall, Nancy Archambeau of Castaic; four granddaughters Toni Amoroso of Moorpark, Caryn Thompson of Isabella Highlands, Cynthia Jacobs of Bakersfield and Gina White of Newhall; two grandsons, Melo Amoroso of Murrieta and John Amoroso of Camarillo and 10 great-grand- children.

A Mass of Christian burial was offered on Saturday, Feb. 1 at the St. Joseph's Church in Marysville for David Anthony Behm of Marysville, formerly of the Kern River Valley. Rev. Patrick Lee officiated.


David Anthony Behm died Jan. 24 at Rideout Hospital at the age of 23 years.


He is survived by his father LeRoy Behm of Marysville and paternal grandparents Leo and Verna Behm of Port Orchard, Washington.


Behm graduated from Kern Valley High School in 1987 and was a wrestling coach at Lindhurst High School in Marysville.

A funeral service was con- ducted Monday, Jan. 27 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Mt. Mesa for Anona Brooks Williams Eisenhauer of Wofford Heights. Officiating was Brother C.D. Pinkston of the LDS ministry of the Kern River Valley with prayers and eulogy by fam- ily and friends. Mrs. Eisenhauer passed away Jan. 21 at Kern Valley Hospital in Mt. Mesa following illness.


Anona is survived by her husband Robert "Bob' Eisenhauer, Sr. son and daughter in law Bob Jr. and Patsy, son and daughter in law Mark and Beth, daughter and son in law Lynn and Ed Bernstein, grandchildren Katie and Adam Eisenhauer, Ronna, Johanna, Tammy, Maya, Eliza- beth, Lindsay and Michael Bernstein and Cody and Mark Eisenhauer, Jr. Anona is also survived by brothers Carl and John Williams and sisters Barbara Marshall and Bobby Ann Lind- say


Mrs. Eisenhauer was a resident of the Kern Valley for the past eight years having been a "weekender" since 1965; for- merly residing in Acton. She was a member of the LDS church in Mt. Mesa.


Born July 3, 1933 in North Hollywood Los Angeles county, daughter of John Earl and Lillian Granger Williams, Anona Brooks Williams Eisenhauer was 58 years of age.

Alexander Arthur Vasta passed away Jan. 27 at the Kern Valley Hospital in Mt. Mesa. He is sur- vived by his wife of 18 years Constance of Lake Isabella, son Ray Vasta of Anaheim, daughters Sandra Seipel of Vista, Mary Agular of Corona and six grand- children. Mr. Vasta was a WW II Veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard who served in the Atlantic Ocean aboard the USS Van Buren and the U.S Coast Guard Cutter Storis.

Walter "Boss" Petersen, Jr.


A graveside service was held on Friday, Jan. 31 at Hillcrest Memorial Park, in Bakersfield for Walter C. "Boss" Petersen, Jr., 81 of Kernville, who died Jan. 27. Bob Powers officiated.


Mr. Petersen was born in Oakland on May 17, 1910 and came to the Kern River Valley as a baby, where he lived all his life. He worked at the South Fork El- ementary School for 25 years as a bus driver and worked at the Kernville Elementary School for 19 years retiring in 1972.


He leaves his wife of 62 years, Luteria Petersen; a son Walter L. Petersen; daughter Maxine Henslee of Oklahoma; two granddaughters; three great grandchildren and a loving sister, Thelma Frazier of Glennville.


His family requests donations be made to the Parkinson Foun- dation at Sansum Clinic, 317 W. Pueblo St., Santa Barbara, CA 93102. Arrangements: Hopson- Anspach Family Mortuary, Bakersfield.

Maria T. Alvarez


A funeral service was con- ducted Saturday, Feb. 8 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel Lake Isabella for Maria Teresa Alvarez. of Weldon. Officiating was Rev. Darlene Haynes.


Mrs. Alvarez passed away Jan. 30 at the Kern Valley Hospital Mt. Mesa.


She is survived by her sons Robert and wife Donna of Ontario, Ernie and wife Deidra of Whittier, John and wife Marie of Downey, David and wife Evelyn of Weldon, grandchildren Cynthia, Jimmy, Ryan, Christo- pher, Erin, Bernelle, Trisha, Rena, Veronica, Elena, Crystal and Mark.


Maria Alvarez was a member of the Kelso Valley Estates property owners Association. She had been a resident of the Kern River Valley for the past 1 1 years.


Born Feb. 25, 1927 in Los Angeles, Maria Teresa Alvarez was 64 years of age. Interment at the Kern River Valley Cemetery Wofford Heights. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.


Margarite Keown


Margarite Keown of Wofford Heights passed away Feb. 1 at home following illness.


She is survived by her husband Ira of Wofford Heights, son Howard of Wofford Heights. brothers Scotty Westenkamp of Arizona, Jack Westenkamp of California, twin sister Marilyn Bertram of California and beloved pet dog "Ginger."


Mrs. Keown had been a resi- dent of the Kern River Valley for the past 11 years.

OBITUARY


William Kinslow


A memorial service for "Bill" Kinslow will be conducted at the Shephard of the Hills Lutheran Church, 3920 Golden Spur St., Lake Isabella on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 11 a.m.


Officiating at the memorial service will be Rev. Tarry Nelson of Santa Cruz.


Bill is survived by Wilda, his wife of 64 years, daughter Jean Crider of Lakewood, Barbara Wells of Glendora and Janet Sigler of La Verne, eight grand- children and nine great-grand- children.


Bill was born on July 14, 1907 in Oakland, California and died in Kernville after a lengthy illness on Feb. 7, 1992. He retired from the transportation department at JPL. Pasadena after 27 years of service, then he and Wilda moved to Kernville in 1972 where he continued his construction talents in the community.
