Marjorie R. Culley
Marjorie R. Culley, formerly of Kemville, passed away Friday, May 8 in Tualatin, Oregon.
She resided in Kernville since 1964 where she and her husband Dr. Robert Culley owned and oper- ated the Kern Lodge Motel for many years.
"Marge" was a member of the Board of Realtors. She was a mem- ber of the Kernville United Meth- odist Church where she played the organ and sang in the choir. She was a very active member in the Kernville Chamber of Commerce and a charter member of the local Order of the Eastern Star and other organizations.
She is preceded in death by her husband and is survived by her daughter Sharon and son-in-law John and their two children Sara and Jacob of Oregon, son Robert of Bakersfield and sister Nadeen of Virginia.
Wilma Ankerbrand

Evelyn Louise Parks
Born in Bluefield, West Virginia on Oct. 27, 1912 and died on May 9, 1992 in Bakersfield, California. She is preceded in death by her husbands, William H. Wygal in 1969 and Wil- liam F. Parks in 1981, and her only child, Mrs. Marilyn Wygal Voto in 1974.
Mrs. Parks is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Robert E. and Virginia Whitehead of Vinton, Virginia and sister and brother-in- law Virginia and Pence Nininger of Camden, South Carolina.
She was a government civil ser- vice employce in communications and supply departments on various military bases for 24 years, from NOTS, China Lake, California to Elemendorf AFB, · Anchorage, Alaska. In June 1970 after marriage to Mr. Parks, they resided at China Lake until his retirement in June 1974 when they moved to Onyx.
Mrs. Parks was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Desert Holly Chapter #558 in Ridgecrest, California since June 1947 and the Weldon United Methodist Church.
Internment with Eastern Star Services will be May 29 at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Roanoke, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memo- rials may be sent to Shriners Hos- pital for Crippled Children or Weldon United Methodist Church Building Fund.
Robert M. Lowe
Private cremationservices were held for Robert Melvin Lowe of Lake Isabella. Mr. Lowe was born June 9, 1918 in Powattan, Kansas and died May 2. 1992 in Mt. Mesa, CA. He was 73 years old.
Mr. Lowe served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and retired from the motion picture industry as prop maker with Desilu Produc- tions.

Terry Helen Beach
A memorial service for Terry Helen Beach of Bodfish was held Thursday, May 7, 1992 at 1:00 p.m. at the Valley Mortuary Chapel. Officiating was pastor Deryl Lackey of the Mt. View Southern Baptist Church, Lake Isabella.
Mrs. Beach was born August 17, 1924 in New York City, New York, and died May 4, 1992 in Bakersfield, CA. She was 67 years old.
Mrs. Beach was preceded in death by her husband Donald Beach in August of 1991. She is survived by her son Bill Bart of Oregon; brothers Harry Giorretto and Robert Giorretto of Oakland, CA; sisters Clair Marrante of Las Vegas, Mary Paris of Washington, Marge Montalto of Sepulveda, CA; two grandchildren and 1 great grand- child.
She was a 10 year resident of the Kern River Valley.

Viola Sullivan
Viola Linck Sullivan was born October 18, 1903 in Baltimore, Maryland and passed away April 27, 1992 in Mt. Mesa, CA.
Viola and her husband Jack moved into the Kern River Valley in 1945. They prospected and did anything else they could to support themselves. They worked with or for many of the older families such as
the Suhre's, Powers', Robinson's, Rhoad's, and so forth, until 1967 when Jack took sick and they settle on Sage Lane in the Weldon Ranches.
Her husband died in 1977 at which time she moved to Mt. Mesa.
Viola is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Burton and Billie Linck and various nieces and nephews in Maryland and other eastern states.
She is missed! Thanks to all for the love they showed during this difficult time.
Dennis Chumley, 20 Chumley suffered major injuries in a motorcycle accident
The family of Dennis R. Chumley would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who have shown their love and consideration to us in so many ways. Casey Neil Hanning was born March 18, 1960 in Bakersfield and died May 15, 1992 at Kern Valley Hospital.
He is survived by son Ryan Paul Hanning of Los Angeles: parents. Leonard and Maric Hanning of Weldon: brothers. Carson Hanning and his wife Tammy of Onyx and Patrick Hanning of Bakersfield: sisters. Graveside services will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery on May 28. 1992 at 2:00 p.m. for Ruth Ruozi of Lake Isabella. who passed away on May 23 in Bakersfield. Rever- end Gradie Powell will officiate.
Mrs. Ruozi was born in Okla- homa on April 18. 1925. and had lived in California since 1946.
She is survived by her husband Armand R. Ruozi of Lake Isabella: sons Fred Teutsch. David Ruozi and Mark Ruozi. all of Bakersfield. Don Teutsch of Point Arena and Jim Teutsch of San Diego.
Ruth was a wonderful wife and mother. She was dearly loved and will be missed by family and friends.

Randy G. Sweaney
Born in Taft, CA on Nov. 6. 1941 and died June 5. 1992 in Taft. Randy was a resident of Kern Country most of his life and resided in Wofford Heights for the past 10 ycars.
He is survived by his loving wife. Carol, partners for almost 30 years: mother. Kathleen Sweancy of Taft: son, Roger Sweaney of Bakersfield; daughter Kiah Pucs of lake Isabella: grandsons Brennon Cheyne Pues and Dylan Thomas Pues: brothers Gary, Greg, Stan and Scott Sweaney of Bakersfield. Jeff Sweancy of Taft, Tim Sweancy of Pismo; and sister Judy Hall of Modesto. Randy was also a foster father of many in- cluding Dan. Ron, Tim. Josh and Summer.
He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish and hunt with his buddies. He was a life long lover of nature and loved to sit and chat. He was known as a master of tales and everyone who knew him will miss him.
Mr. Sweaney was a Highway Patrolman from 1967 to 1978 in the Bakersfield. Porterville area. He worked in Alaska as a tool operator for several years. He had worked in Taft in the Elk Hills oil fields since 1987 until his death.
Randy loved to be with his family and was a loyal, loving husband, father and friend.
Mr. Sweaney belonged to the Taft Sportsman Club and Ducks Unlimited.
There will be a gathering of family and friends on Saturday, June 13, at 10:00 a.m. at the Hill of the Three Crosses in Wofford Heights.

William Cowan
Funeral services were held Monday, June 15. 1992, for Wil- liam Cowan. 75, of Lake Isabella, at Holland & Lyons Chapel in Ridgecrest, CA. Officiating was Jon Rowe of the Church of Christ in Mt. Mesa. He was buried at Desert Memorial Park. Mr. Cowan was born June 19, 1916 in Spiro. OK and died June 10, 1992, at the home of his son in Ridgecrest as the result of natural causes.
He lived in Lake Isabella for 16- 1/2 years after moving from Ridgecrest where he lived for 12 years. At the ume of his death, he was on extended leave from the Naval Weapons Center where he was employed since 1946 as a machinist.
Mr. Cowan is survived by his wife. Nancy Louise Cowan of Lake Isabella; son, Douglas W. Cowan of Ridgecrest. CA; daughters Tena Kay Miller of San Marcos, CA, Marjo Miles Kvammen of Ridgecrest, CA, Linda Lou Wincn of Huntsville. AL, and Betty Evonc Raffel of Ridgecrest. Rev. Oliver Brian Endicott. former Vicar of St. Peter's Epis- copal Church in Kemville.
May 15 was a sad day for the family, congregation and friends of Fr. Brian. He died of injuries received when a vehicle crossed over the center lines and crashed head on while he was on his way from Bakersfield to his church in Kernville.
Fr. Brian was not only our priest, but a good friend and teacher and he brought much love, caring and compassion to all who knew him. The memorial service was held on May 19 at St. Paul's Church in Bakersfield with the Rt. Rev. John David Schofield, Bishop of San Joaquin Diocese, as the celebrant.

Herbert (Pete) Wallace Hanson
Funeral services were held Monday. June 22. 1992. for Herbert (Pcte) Hanson at Highland Chapel United Methodist Church in Lake Isabella. Officiating at the service was Pastor Floyd R. Castillo.
Pete Hanson was born on Sept. 15, 1910 in the Territory of New Mexico to John and Bertha Hanson who had come to this country from Sweden.
He spent most of his life in- volved in the aviation industry where he worked as a flight engi- neer for various airlines. During World War II, Pete flew with the Army Transport Command.
Pete and his wife. Hazel, bought their first home in the Kern Valley in 1970. but didn't move up here permanently until their retirement in 1987. He was recently hospital- ized for knee surgery and died peacefully of other complications on Thursday. June 18. 1992, in Bakersfield, CA. Pete will be cre- mated and his ashes placed in a niche in Kern Valley Cemetery.
He is survived by Hazel, his wife of more than 46 years. of Lake Isabella: his daughter Georgia Kohler of Santa Cruz. CA; Hazel's daughter Sylvia Wheeler. to whom he was a real father, of La Paz .. Mexico: granddaughters Kathy in New Zealand. and Agnes Freeburn of Tucson, AZ; and grandsons Kyle Kohler of Santa Cruz. and Ken Kohler of San Jose. There are four great-grandchildren.

· Edith Horney. 90, of Lake Isa- bella died June 7 at Kern Valley Hospital. She was born May 24. 1902 in Texas and had lived in Wofford Heights and Lake Isa- bella for the past 23 years.

Services were held June 12 at Green Hills Mortuary Chapel with the Reverend Kevin Johnson offi- ciating. Interment was at Green Hills Memorial Park, Ranch Palo Verdes. CA.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years. Calvin. and her son Richard, both in 1986.
She is survived by sons Argie of Oklahoma. Ray of Arizona. Roy of Ontario, and daughter Loretta of Huntington Beach. Also 11 grandchildren. 13 great-grand- children and 1 great-great grand- child.

A funeral service was held Thursday, June 25, 1992 at 1:00 p.m. for Robert Wayne Larsen of Weldon. Officiating was Pastor Jim Lee of the Valley Community Church of Lake Isabella. Pallbearers were John Andrews, Shawn Rhoads, Peter Hearn, Paul Hearn, Chad Reichenbach, Greg Greenwood. Interment followed at the Kern River Valley Cemetery in Wofford Heights.
Robert was born December 5, 1969 in Mt. Mesa and died June 21, 1992 in Weldon. He was 22 years old. Robert was a 1988 graduate of Kern Valley High School.
He is survived by his parents Bill and Karen Larsen, brother Will and sister Kathryn of Weldon; grandparents Bill and Joyce Varble, Bob and Connie Fulkman, Robert Arvidson; great-grandparents Mr. and Mrs. L. Schuller; uncle Gordon Larsen; aunt Sharon Brazil; and godparents Kenneth and Barbara Allen; cousins Edward Smith, Sandy Smith, David Larsen, Kristi Larsen and Lisa Larsen. Robert Wayne Larsen was a life long resident of the Kern River Valley.

Thomas C. Short
A funeral service was held Friday, June 26, 1992 at 11:00 a.m. at the Valley Mortuary Chapel in Lake Isabella for Thomas Clarence Short of Lake Isabella. Officiating was Pastor Jim Lee of the Valley Commu- nity Church of Lake Isabella. Interment followed at the Kern River Valley Cemetery in Wofford Heights.
Tom was born October 19, 1916 in Bidwell, Iowa and died June 23, 1992 at his residence in Lake Isabella. He was 75 years old. He retired from Naval Weapons Center at China Lake after 35 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Vernice Short of Lake Isabella; son Roger Short of Ridgecrest; daughter Bonnie Zissos of Ridgecrest; brother Lawrence Simenic of Florida; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Tom was a 46 year resident of Kern County and loved to play golf in the Kern River Valley. He will be dearly missed by all.

George Freundner
Private services were held for George Freundner of Onyx.
George was born January 29, 1921 in West Germany. He died June 29, 1992 in Bakersfield, CA. He was 71 years old.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years Rosamarie Freundner of Onyx; sons Dieter Freundner of California City and George H. Freundner of Tustin, CA; three grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.
Mr. Freundner was a 13 year resident of the Kern River Valley. Arrangements by Valley Mor- tuary.
