John Carpenter, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene, Lake Isabella. Mr. Hartmann passed away Jan .3 at home following illness. He is sur- vived by his daughters Pauline Webb of Huntington Beach, Roberta Sproul also of Hunting- ton; son Donald of Bodfish; brother Ross of New Mexico; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Hank was a WW II veteran of the U.S. Army who served with the 3rd Combat Engi- neer Battalion in the Asiatic-Pa- cific region and received the Phil- ippine Liberation Medal with two battle Stars and the Bronze Star.

Robert Edward Hamilton of Kernville passed away Jan. 14 at the Kern Valley Hospital. He is survived by his wife Ann of Kernville.
Mr. Hamilton was a WW II vet- eran of the U.S. Army who served in the Aleutian Islands and the Asiatic-Pacific. He had been a resident of the Kern River Valley for the past 4 years.

MICHAEL MELROSE
A memorial service was con- ducted Tuesday Jan. 29 at the Valley Mortuary Chapel in Lake Isabella for Michael Melrose of Weldon. Officiating was Rev. Charles Smith, pastor of the United Methodist Church Weldon. Mr. Melrose passed away Jan. 25 at home following illness.
He is survived by his wife Vera of Weldon, mother Marguerite Melrose, brothers, Albert, David and Timothy all of California and many nieces and nephews.
Michael Melrose was retired after 17 years with the Santa Monica Fire Department. During WW II, he served with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Kermit Roosevelt. He had been a resident of the Kern Valley for the past nine years.
Born Dec. 31, 1927 in Santa Monica, Michael Norris Melrose was 63 years old.

A funeral service for Sam D. Houchin of Wofford Heights was conducted Thursday, Jan. 24 at the Kern River Valley Elks Lodge. Officiating were officers of BPOE No. 2358, Mr. Houchin passed away Jan. 21 at San Joaquin Com- munity Hospital.

LUCILE E. PATTERSON
A private graveside service was held at Kern Valley Cemetery for Lucile E. Patterson who passed away on Jan. 13 in Bakersfield. Rev. Fred Baker, minister of the Kernville United Methodist Church officiated.
She was preceded in death by her husband Milton (Pat) on Aug. 8, 1990, her sister Marie Boyer and her grandson Tom Rolfe in 1983.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Doris and Wayne Requa and JoAnn and Richard Rolfe of Kernville; her grandson and wife Dan and Donna Requa of San Juan Capistrano, her granddaughter and husband Christine and Sam Vullo of Huntington Beach; three great grandsons, John Vullo, Tommy Rolfe and Cory Requa and two great granddaughters Jo Ann Vullo and Kelsey Requa; her brother A.B. (Bob) Crumrine of Kernville; brother in law Verdi Boyer of Arcadia and two nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was con- ducted Tuesday, Jan. 29 graveside at the Kern River Valley cemetery in Wofford Heights for Lon Royce Wilks of Wofford Heights. Eu- logy and prayers were delivered by family and friends.
Mr. Wilks passed away Jan. 26 at the Memorial Hospital in Bakersfield. He is survived by his wife Hazel of Wofford Heights, sons Doug and Roy both of Walnut; sister Jessie Wright of Downey; grandchildren Cari, Fred and Mike all of California.
Lon Wilks was a retired ser- viceman for Southern California Gas Co. where he worked for 45 years.

ROBERT EDWARD
HAMILTON Robert Edward Hamilton, 70, of Kernville, stainless steel sculptor, painter, poet, philoso- pher and author, passed away on Jan. 14 at Kern Valley Hospital, following a long illness of pul- monary disease.
Mr. Hamilton was born in Kokomo, Indiana on May 12, 1920. He attended Kokomo schools and Indiana University- Kokomo Campus. During WW II he built, maintained and oper- ated the Armed Forces Radio Station on Kiska in the Aleutians, also doing his own poetry reading over-music show. Returning to civilian life, he served as a para- medic and radio operator for the Kokomo Fire Department. While developing his talents in painting and sculpture. He was also an award winning actor with Kokomo Civic Theatre, and served on its board of directors. He was also on the board of the Congregational Christian Church.
Hamilton's first commis- sioned sculpture was for the Jones and Laughlin Stainless Steel Di- vision in Detroit, Michigan. The company provided him with the knowledge and facilities to work with the brilliant metal, and his own experimentations led to the development of his unique com- bination of an epoxy and sand filler in a stainless steel strip form.
Moving to the Southwest in 1968, Hamilton pursued his career in Sedona, Scottsdale and Tucson, Arizona; Taos and Santa Fe gal- leries in New Mexico; and in California in the San Francisco, Los Angeles and Palm Springs areas. In his final years before retiring most patrons came to his studio home in Joshua Tree, CA.

OBITUARY
In 1978 he was awarded a $20,000 commission from the California Arts in Public Build- ings Program to create a sculpture for a state government building in El Centro. One of Hamilton's best known works is at the Superscope-Marantz Headquar- ters Building in Chatsworth. This 15-foot stylized treble clef sculpture revolves on its base and is spotlighted at night. The loca- tion has been used in many TV and movie productions.
Hamilton and his wife of 50 years, Anne, came to Kernville in 1987 to their retirement home in the Hi-Ho Park. In failing health from emphysema, he began writing books about his work, poetry and philosophy.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Sandra (Mrs. John Hanna) of Pomoma, Ca and Pamela (Mrs. Gleo Huyck) of Wasilla, Alaska. Also two granddaughters, Marzieh Huyck of Wasilla and Heather Huyck at University of Alaska Fairbanks; a brother, Harry Hamilton, of Kokomo, Indiana, also survived him.
Cremation was arranged by Valley Mortuary. Friends are invited to attend a memorial ser- vice to be held Feb. 24 at the home of family friend Phyllis Hix.
A memonal service will also be held Feb. 27 at the University Auditorium in Kokomo, where a wreath will be placed at the base of a large Hamilton sculpture on the campus, entitled "Phoenix". Mrs. Hamilton will be attending the ceremony in Indiana.

Phyllis Winslow
Phyllis Kaye Winslow
Graveside services were held at the Kern River Valley Cem- ctery on Friday, Feb .. 8 for Phyllis K. Winslow, who passed away Feb. 5 in Bakersfield. Mr. Lalo Enriquez of the Church of Christ officiated.
Phyllis was born Feb. 11, 1938 in Colony, Oklahoma and resided most of her life in Bakersfield. She attended elementary schools in Bakersfield and graduated from East Bakersfield High School in 1955 with a Gold Seal diploma, denoting an A-average for her high school attendance. She also attended Bakersfield Junior College.
She was employed in the banking and financial industry since 1960 and worked at the Niles and Glenwood Branch of Security Pacific Bank in Bakersfield for many years.
In 1972, Phyllis and her family moved to the Kern River Valley area making their home in Wofford Heights. Phyllis began her employment with Santa Bar- bara Federal Savings at this time and was manager of the Kernville Branch and also the manager of the Lake Isabella branch at the time of her illness.
Her many community activi- ties included the Kern Valley
Business and Professional Women's organization, Ex- change Club, Lake Isabella Chamber of Commerce, Visitor's Council, South Fork Women's Club, Kern Valley Women's Club. Kern Valley Hospital Foundation and the American Motorcycle Association. One of her most proudest moments was her selection by the Business and Professional Women as "The Woman of the Year" for 1989.
Survivors include her hus- band, Ernie Winslow of Wofford Heights, son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Janna Winslow of Wofford Heights; son Tim Winslow of Barstow, CA; grandson, Ryan Travis Winslow, who will miss his "grammy" very much.
She also leaves behind her mother, Berchal Ringo of Lake Isabella and her brother and his wife, Robert and Bonnie Ringo of Lakeland Estates, Lake Isabella. Also very special people in her life were her sister-in-law and her husband Gail and Bob Yossand; very close friends Joe and Norma Roseberry and her mother-in-law Ruth Winslow of Bakersfield.

Harry Brennan
Harry Brennan, 67, of Bodfish, formerly of Buena Park, a retired quality-control worker for Rockwell International Corp, died Monday, Jan. 28.
Services were held Friday in the Renaker-Klockgether Mor- tuary, in Buena Park. Burial at Riverside National Cemetery.
Survived by his wife, Ruby. son Larry of Huntington Beach; brothers, James, of Fullerton and Arthur and Richard, both of Boston; sister, Marie Higgins of New Hampshire and three grandchildren.
Mr. Brennan was a life member of the VFW, life member of the DAV and member of Moose Lodge 498.
Steve Miranda
Services were held at St. Jude Church in Wofford Heights on Thursday, Feb. 7 with graveside following at Kern Valley cem- etery for Steve Miranda, who died Feb. 3.
Mr. Miranda was born June 30, 1916 at Onyx. He was 74 years of age.
He is survived by his wife. Irene Miranda of Onyx; daughter Mary Parbier of Las Vegas, Jessie Castro of Tracy; sons Bert Miranda and Steve Jr., of Las Vegas and sisters Chanza Andreas and Charlotte Stone. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Ethel Schultz (Schultzie) died Jan. 25 at Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys. She was 82.
Born Dec. 20, 1908 in Carbon Cliff, Illinois, she lived in Wofford Heights from 1961 to 1985, when she moved to Reseda to live with her daughter.

A funeral service was con- ducted graveside at the Inglewood Memorial park cemetery in Inglewood on Feb. 13 for Harold W. Coe of Mt. Mesa.

Roy Lee Williams
Services were conducted on Feb. 11 in the Chapel of the J.W. Sams and Sons Funeral Home for Roy Lee Williams, 58, of Bakersfield, who died Feb. 7 in Santa Barbara.
Mr. Williams was born March 20, 1932 in Checotah, OK. He lived in Arvin as a young man. He was a self employed refrigeration repairman for years in the Lake Isabella area. He served his country during the Korean con- fliet from 1952 until 1956 with the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Christine of Bakersfield; 3 sons Jerry and Keith Williams both of Lake Isabella and Michael of Oklahoma City; a daughter, Kim of Bakersfield; brother, Raymond of Arkansas; 2 sisters, Leonard Starr and Wynona Trantha, both of Bakersfield; 3 grandchildren; step-children, Paul. Edris "Jim" Hughes of Wofford Heights passed away Feb. 3 at Memorial Hospital in Bakersfield.

Dorothy Marie Kent, age 74 years, died in Fresno on Feb. 14 . Mrs. Kent was a former resident of Delano and retired registered nurse, pilot, past president of the 99s Womens Pilot Assoc. and chairman of the 99's Air Race in 1960.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, Feb. 21 at 9 a.m. at St. Jude's parish Catholic church in Wofford Heights for Donna Lou Kendrick of Mt. Mesa. Officiating was Rev. Monsignor A.G. Herdegen.
Mrs. Kendrick was born Oct. 20, 1910 in Boone, Iowa and died Feb. 18 in Mt. Mesa. She was 80 years old and a 42 year resident of the Kern Valley.
She is survived by her dear friends and caregivers Twila Griffith and family of Mt. Mesa; sons Ron Erickson of Oregon, Jim Erickson of Colorado; 12 grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. Arrangements by Valley Mortuary.
Alma Eurene Stevens
Private cremation services were held for Alma Eurene Stevens of Bodfish. Mrs. Stevens was born Jan. 28, 1902 in Ten- nessee and died Feb. 19 in Bakersfield she was 89 years old and a 24 year resident of the Kern Valley.

OBITUARY
Mildred Deadrich
Mildred Deadrich, 92, died at her home in Wofford.Heights on Feb. 17, following a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband Louis R. Deadrich on Oct. 9, 1985.
Known as "Mimi", she graduated from U.C. Berkeley, where she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority. She taught at Fremont High School in the Oakland Public School system for several years. She and her family moved to Bakersfield in 1943 where she was active in the American Association of Uni- versity Women and other com- munity organizations.
She and her husband retired to their home in Wofford Heights in 1981.
Mimi is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Don and Audrey Deadrich of Wofford Heights; granddaughter Donna L. Higgins of Wofford Heights; Laura Vigil of Mariposa and four great grandchildren.
Donations in her memory may be sent to the Alzheimer's Asso- ciation, National Headquarters, 70 East Lake Street, Chicago, Il 60601-9971. There were no ser- vices per her wishes.

Sylvia Lillian Michel was born Feb. 10, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York and resided in Lake Isabella for the past 26 years. She was previously employed at Kern Valley Hospital as a nurses aide for 12 years. She was a member of the Four Square Church
She is survived by her hus- band Ted; daughter Pauline Plasencia of Pomona, daughter Marian VanSickle, Riverside; daughter Karen Lownes of Colorado; son Donald Michel of Thousand Oaks, son Eddie Michel of Lake Isabella; 10 grandchildren, one great grand- child; brother Fred Liuzzi of Torrance and Tom Morshallo of Georgia, sister Anna Longo of New Jersey and Theresa Pasciuta of Ontario.

Louise McCartney Stewart was born March 23, 1907 and passed away Feb. 22. She lived in Wofford Heights since 1962, and worked at the local hospital for many years as a nurse and helped at the senior center.
